Good luck, just be careful with making sure the solder is properly molten before pulling or pushing legs through fragile holes. You'll be fine if you take care.

Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes, it was a moment of accidental genius! We had a really stubborn case that was glued tight and I picked up the first thing nearby that could give me a bit more leverage!
That was three years ago and have now opened up thousands since. With some keys, it's the only way to open them without damaging them
Top Tip when dismantling key fobs is to do it inside a large zip lock freezer bag.
It'll catch all the bits when it explodes.
Yes really good idea, hope you found everything!
Use solder wick to remove solder on the switch pads. Then solder one leg of the switch only. Heat that pad gently push and align your switch, ensuring all pads line up. Solder the remaining three pads or legs....Done! Don't use a heat gun to resolder the switches as in doing so will damage the switch!

Hi Don, so the metal contacts come attached to the battery from new, so you just need a repair kit that includes the battery. We don't sell these at present, but you'll pick them up at Amazon or eBay. Of give us a ring and use our postal repair service :)
Thanks for the video. Why didnt you use the existing flip blade with the key already on it instead of knocking the pin out? Would it not have worked?
HI, we normally find that the hinge assembly, the thing that holds the blade, will not transfer from the old case to the new one. They are normally a slightly different shape and so don't work correctly. Hope that helps
Hi there, great video. The circuit board in my old key is fine so just need to transfer everything to the new case. However, as you mention the old flip part doesn't fit. Rather than get the blank key cut I would prefer to use the old key part. How do you go about knocking the pin out in order to interchange the key part?
We use a pin removal punch. I'll find a link and post it
The only trouble you may have is that the blade from your original key may not fir correctly into the new case. You may need to modify the original key blade with a needle file
The Car Key Man thank you. I’ve got a nail punch set but not sure if the smallest punch is small enough. Should the pin come out fairly easily or will it take some force?
My keys were stolen. Dealer has a wait of a few months to get a replacement. I took the old ignition switch out to try to get a new mechanical key made. I also bought a used key fob from someone on Craigslist. If I am able to get the switch to turn, can the used fob be reprogrammed to start my car? 2006 LR3.

Great presentation, I see you re used the old Blade (Some suppliers say you must cut a new blade.. i.e. Not interchangeable)

Yes we agree, maybe the idea was that a sealed unit made it more roughy toughy.....but all it does it make it hard to fix
