  • The Camino Portuguese… Week1
    This is our first Camino and now our longest hiking distance to date.
    The Journey starts in Porto Portugal, covering 280k & finishes in Santiago Spain.
    There are many Camino’s, with lots of different starting points and all at varying lengths. However each Camino is heading to the same destination- Santiago de Compostela Cathedral.
    As some of you may know we love travelling & hiking. The Camino Frances has been on our wish list for a long time now but due to the length 780k!! and the time off work needed to complete this we decided to do the Camino Portuguese first.
    (It would also be a test to see if we would make it & like it😊)
    Our Camino was over 14days starting in September 2023 with a combination of coastal and inland walking.
    12 days of hiking, 1 rest day in the middle & 1 extra day at the end in Santiago to explore the beautiful city.
    The weather was gloriously amazing. Well except for one brutally windy coastal day (Checkout Day 2!)
    The Camino Portuguese has some stunning scenery along the coast & inland we past through many beautiful villages. However it wasn't all easy walking, there were also a few tough long days where you thought they would never end.
    It certainly stretched us but we absolutely loved it so much we now are planning to do the Camino Frances next year (Stay Tuned👀)

    Nice. Our 2019 Portuguese Camino was terrific -despite the unrelenting rain. I smiled when I heard you mention ponchos. Ponchos made a huge difference for us too. Bom Camino!

    Thoroughly enjoyed your little video. It brought back so many memories. I have visited Porto several times and I love the city. I completed the last part of the Caminho Português the year before Covid. I flew into Porto and after a night there, I caught the train up to Valença. I walked from Valença to Santiago de Compostela - your next part. Valença and Tui were lovely border towns. The Caminho through Galicia is a very rewarding walk indeed. Again the people were so friendly. So looking forward to your next video.

    Get yourself some big hats (with straps of course). Also, the metallic umbrellas though expensive, seem to work great on those warm, sunny days.

    Great video guys! Did the very same route in May this year and managed to avoid any rain at all. Yes, those hills can be pretty tiring. We’re you both wearing Altras on your feet?

      Thank you, one bad day weather (really bad 😂) had a few days of drizzle but most were sunny and glorious.
      Yes both of us are wearing Ultra lone peak 7. It was our first time using ultras they were great. Only bit for me on the cobbles I felt every stone lol think I needed extra insoles.🥾

    Hi.
    Looks like you had a great trip.
    I think ye really like the wind.
    How did the accomadation go.
    And was it easily booked.
    Thanks

      Hiya, yes it was a great trip thank you & the wind was definitely fun 😂. Most of our accommodation was amazing & we booked via booking .com in advance. Or we contacted the guest house direct. Glad we did it this way for our first time 😅 Also this way we got to stay at places that get sold out fast.
      You can’t pre book with the Municipal Albergues you just have to turn up.
      I like to know where I’m heading to and that I have a room at the end of my day. Maybe next time I’ll be braver 😂
      Thanks for watching 🥾

    Maybe I missed it somewhere, but when did you do the walk? Do you think a single female would be OK doing it? thanks for the videos 😊

    • @acoupleofordinarytravellers
      @acoupleofordinarytravellers  Před 6 měsíci +1

      We walked in September & yes absolutely walking as a female solo is safe there were many of all different ages that we met along the way.
      I would also do it myself solo as a female. I hope that helps .
      Lindsey 😊

    Greetings, thank you for sharing your experience. We plan on walking Camino Portuguese Costal in May 2025, Porto to Santiago. May I ask if you pre booked your hotel/guesthouse/Bnb. Thank you so much.

    • @acoupleofordinarytravellers
      @acoupleofordinarytravellers  Před 6 měsíci

      We did pre book most in advance but we also change & swapped one or two along the way. Mainly booked via on booking.com or air B&B or direct.
      I like to plan and know where we are stopping so this worked for us. 😅
      Many only book the night before or find somewhere when they stop for the night 😃
