Collapsible Trapezoid Christmas Tree Collar - Low Cost High Profit - Make Money Woodworking
Vložit
- čas přidán 1. 08. 2024
- $10 DIY tapered Christmas tree box! Some call them tree skirts, some call them tree boxes and some call them collars... whatever you want to call them... they are popular and in demand! I couldn't find anyone teaching how to build the trapezoid collars but noticed that one major brand was selling the heck out of them... so of course, that's the one I had to learn to build and teach! The reason why no one else is building these is that everyone hates doing the math on compound miters... Well, so do I... but I've got ya.
For this build, It took 5 fence pickets (5 1/2" x 72") and for the square X frame, 4 pickets. If you build these from pine pickets that's only $10 in wood! Remember what I said about Christmas?... People will spend money on the holidays! Especially this one... so get out there and go get it!

If your saw only bevels to the right then cut your boards this way without changing the angle or bevel. Reverse this if it only bevels left.
Right-hand cut: Face down. Top against the fence. Board to the left of the blade.
Left-hand cut: Face up, bottom against the fence. Board on the right side of the blade.

I think you need a few corrections on your plans. The bevel for the top trim should be 37^, not 31.7^. Also, your cut list should have a note that those are final dimensions. I was expecting them to be rough dimensions and then cut down, but the cut list doesn't show rough cut. Luckily, I was able to precisely cut and didn't have to recut anything. Finally, a few of the final trim dimensions were long - that could be due to the error in the angle. However, these were easy to make and I sold them for $55 each at a local craft show. Thanks!

Totally agree
Learn and pass on to others. Plenty of profit for everyone.
Yes!
My man, that last bit about sharing and being good humans was everything. I knew you were a good dude after the first video I watched. That piece just confirmed everything I thought I knew about you. Many blessings to you and your family. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Making these in triangle versions would be a neat concept too.
I love your philosophy of generosity and sharing the knowledge from one’s struggles. Thank you!
I've never seen these before, but the look on my wife's face when she was watching over my shoulder said it all. Thanks for sharing this one, Matthew~!!
I agree with you at the end there
It’s great
I’ve noticed woodworkers are selfless and generous in sharing what they’ve learned and know
THANK YOU
OMG! you can't believe how helpful this is to me right now. A catering company needs 20 chafer surrounds that collapse by the first of Oct. I really couldn't come up with how I would do this. The box tree surround you just showed is EXACTLY what I need. Going to etsy right now and getting those plans...so cool.
I have watched many videos and made several myself. Yours are by far the best
Once my skill set gets there, I'll be attempting one of these. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for these amazing videos and making the plans available on your Etsy shop! I love that the build portion of the videos are to the point. We homeschool, and I use them for shop class teaching my 15 yo. I'm learning right along with him. We are doing the tall planter build now. Our next project will be this one.
Really appreciate your open source attitude
I am getting into the woodworking industry soon; I think your videos are inspiring. I especially like how you want everyone to share the knowledge. Keep up the nice videos and thank you.
I just want to say I love your videos. You come across as a “real” kinda guy and your videos are very informative, entertaining, and easy to follow. Your
Philosophy of sharing your knowledge and skills say a lot about what kinda man you are. We’re all on the same team and you practice what you preach and I appreciate that. Keep doing what you do. Your videos and ideas have helped me out tremendously and personally and I can’t thank you enough. Keep doing what ya do brother. I’m sure that I’m not the only one who feels this way. So to wrap this up, thanks for doing you and the great videos. God Bless and keep it up!!!

I dont know why you came up in my feed, but I'm so glad you did! Im currently building a small business making mostly quilted gifts. But I do have some simple woodworking skills. And so far I have loved everything I've seen! Thank you for sharing!!!
Great idea Matthew. Thank you for sharing you knowledge. 👍
Thanks Matt. Just built one today for the Mrs. but had to make it smaller by 6” overall and only 8” high. Math did suck making changes and took a while to complete after a few mistakes, but came out surprisingly well. On to the snowflakes now. Keep up the good work and have a blessed day.
As always...YOU offer another AWESOME idea! Thanks for all of the videos!
this is awsome!! i made one a few years back from pallet wood. threw it together really fast. i made a square one with only three side because you can not see the back the way we set up our tree. wife loved it!
I made the square design last year, I used Velcro to hold the ends together. I love the angled design better. I am going to try and make them. Thanks for all of the great ideas
Love these! Thanks Matthew! I’ll be making a few of these this weekend, maybe some rustic ones.
Just a little updat... I didn't have a lot of sales at the market( no real big crowds) but at least I did have sales on my first try. Thanks again for helping another man keep his head up. Have a great week ahead.
That's awesome. I made one out of cardboard last year and covered it with plaid flannel. Looked really good under my tree. I didn't have the tools to use wood.
I love your attitude Matthew!! Pay things forward. That is how we grow as a civilization.
You are exactly right.
I use vintage aqua stain on the pickets, rub it off and then dry brush aqua paint over that. Then, take black spray paint and fog the top edges. Finish it off with a good coat of polyacrylic.
This is a perfect Christmas item! Great video!!
Another great project idea! Well done and thank you sir!
Going to be making a few of these might just be the family Christmas present this year thanks for the idea.
Well said. Appreciate you sharing your experience and expertise.
Great build Matthew!! Blessings!!!
Appreciate you figuring this out for us! Another great project/ product.
No worries! Not gonna lie... It took me a day and a ton of wood.... to figure this one out.
Our community is unlike any other community. Woodworking networks are a place where we can take criticism and give criticism and never be offended. We all know we don't know it all. I enjoy spreading my knowledge and gathering pothers peoples knowledge in a place where we all just get along. The rest of the world can learn a lot from us. Keep up the awesome world, your projects have breathed a new life into my future as I just had a debilitating health issue that forced me to stop my normal job. I have found something I can still do and enjoy. Thank you.
Thank you! Great idea! Love that you made it so it can fold up!
No worries! Yea I figured it would be awkward if it had to stay as is.
Thank you for your content! We home school my son. I will be using several of your projects to help with my lesson plans for teaching him shop class.
That's so cool you are doing that. I wish more public schools had shop classes.
I pulled the plug and made the move today! I invested about $120 to start making some things to sell. I even had a $25 Home Depot card I used that helped.
I'm looking forward to starting this venture!
I've been hurting for cash really bad and been bored and needed a hobby.
Woodworking is a win-win!
You’ve got this!
Wishing you well!
How’s it going man did you do it?
I love how you make this stuff for everyone to build themselves. I have nothing but respect for you sir! Anytime I’m deciding what I want to make next I check your channel because I know you are gonna have some amazing builds that when I’m done, it makes the perfect gift for someone! Thank you!
Thank you... If I'm going to take the time to make a video I want someone to learn from it... there's soooo much content out there just showing a creator build something. Glad you like the channel!
I agree, but now that I'm out of ripoffs and into making my own stuff I'm terrified it'll end up on here 😂
What a great idea, thanks for posting
Thanks to you my husband has make me a Christmas tree skirt, a wooden Christmas tree and the snow flakes 😊 I love them ❤️
Nice!
I just bought a laser engraver and have been looking for projects to build myself and add custom engravings to. This will definitely be on my list of stuff for sale next season.
Beautiful! Absolutely love this! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Made one of these a few years back. I made mine with only three sides however. Most trees are against a wall or corner so it just slides to right under. Can’t even tell it don’t have a back. Nice thing about doing it this way is you can make it all one unit and fold into the center for great storage.
Another banger!
I found that when installing hinges in tight areas, dabbing a little CA glue on back of hinge helps it stay in place when pre drilling holes.
Yes! It was tough. But much easier after Stickley told me to turn it upside down to install the hinges. Much more room.
Awesome idea! Thanks for sharing it.
Fantastic idea!!
Thank you. You are great. Keep the little things coming
Loved the speech at the end
This is awesome will be trying one thanks
I will be adding a top to mine to give our tree a boost in height.
Matthew I really admire your attitude your helpfulness and your generosity. Thank you
No worries Neil! Thanks for watching!
Love Neil's Christ God..
Great work as usual man, really love this idea
Another awesome project! Thank you 😊
Love it! I was just looking at designs for these on Pinterest this last weekend.
Awesome!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
I love what you said about sharing Ideas, I'm always willing to share building ideas when I do craft shows...we are all one big happy woodworking family
Very true. Our woodworking community is the best.
Your videos really inspire us all. Keeping up engagement with the comment. Keep it up!
Thanks NE! Will do!
And I bought plans in the bundle. Thanks a bunch.
Fresh cut pine boards would add to the pine tree ambiance. At least the first year lol. But who doesn’t like the smell of cedar right?
Awesome share sir!👍🏻
All of your videos are fantastic! I want to begin woodworking once I learn all that I can from watching your great videos! 👍👋🌸
You can do it ! I have!
Thanks for the great idea. The timing is perfect to be able to build some before the Christmas craft markets. I did awesome sales from the planter boxes this spring.
Sweet! You should be selling fall items now as well as Christmas. People buy Christmas items year round.
You nailed it on this one! AWESOME!
Thanks Bill!
Share...love it...nothing is a secret....life is about what we give to others.
You nailed it with this one! I can see the order list going crazy before Christmas 🤘🏻
Thanks! Oh yea for sure... right after Thanksgiving get ready!
Hey! I’m a new wood worker. Literally, just starting out. I watch your videos frequently, yet haven’t attempted to build yet. I went out and bought some power tools, Miter Saw and Table Saw specifically as I own a wide variety of tools after nearly thirty years in the Plumbing industry. With that said, for us new guys, could you do a quick “how-to” video on how to use the two tools mentioned above, as well as some safety guidelines to follow? I know there are multiple uses for each tool, but maybe just the basics? And yes, I know to keep my hand and fingers out of the way…😂😂😂 Thanks for your time and keep up the great work.
Fantastitic idea! Thank you for sharing!
No worries Peter! Thanks for watching!
Another awesome project! Thank you!
Thanks!
I just love your videos - thank you for sharing.
Thanks Lisa!
Great video dude certianly something I'll look at doing. I've actually been working on few things recently so get the photos into you and the brag board. 👍🏴✌️
You are so clever. Your mum must be so proud of you
Why thank you!
Awesome video! Thanks for the lesson.
I have been stewing and stumped about this for months now. Wanted to make these and have them be collapsible and storable. Never even thought of flag/lift hinges. I was to the point that I was going to router out dovetail slots or t-slots to make them slip together. Hinges will be much faster and durable though. Thanks for the video Matt!
No worries! Glad that I could help!
Awesome! This is just what I need to make to keep our pet bunnies from chewing the Christmas tree lights this year! Thanks.
Another cool idea that I think I need to try. Thanks for sharing...
Thanks Jimmy!
These are great. Thank you!
Love the ideas!!🐝🐝
Very Cool. Thanks for sharing. Going to make mine this weekend.
Nice!! You can do it!!
GREAT VIDEO!!!
Thank you so much! I love this! I'm going to make one for myself as a test. I'm also very intrigued about the dome over your miter saw for dust. Please do tell more on that!
At the end of this video, you talking about sharing information and not being greedy was so good to hear. Not to long ago at least in America and probably the rest of the world the majority of people thought like that. And society was much better off because of it. In the same way you didn't see price gouging in emergency situations like we did see during COVID-19. And the few that did do it were punished for it either by arrest if they drew attention of authorities or by the community by excluding them by not doing business with them anymore. If you are a hermit you can live without caring about what people thought of you but most of don't live like that. We are a part of a society and when we work together and establish a reputation for fair play everyone benefits. In the long run of life making smaller profits from each sale leads to a more secure life for the whole society. I hope other people pick up on how important of a message you just sent. Thank you
That's how it should be... The world would be a better place if we all just shared knowledge. Im afraid of what our future will look like if we keep it up. We all need to do our part!
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking I have the utmost respect for you and what you do to help those of us who enjoy building things. Thank you, sir!
Thats so awesome. Heck. I'd like to just have one for our tree.
These are wonderful! I'm trying my hand at wood working. I need a few tools. I guess I'll watch your what tools you need video! Thanks so much for your videos. Good work 👍
You’ve got this!
Love it!
Another cool build Matthew, you are the best at describing these things. Another thing that could be done to these is to apply an a old time (yesteryear) burnt look. The other thing that I think that would be cool is, install rgb led strip inside the box, I think this would give a shadow box effect and probably would make the installed tree look much better. I always look forward to your videos, some of the things are not for me, but the techniques everyone could use. God bless
Thanks Row! Great ideas! Im not sure if your selling or just for yourself but keep in mind... if your selling your not building thing all the time for your taste... Thanks for the support!
good build!
Hola! 🖐Good video and great project. Thanks for the rundown on how to put one together. I may have to give it a shot for this Christmas Season. I agree with and appreciate the message about sharing knowledge. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊
