  • Here’s how I replaced the old battery in my MacBook Pro. Removing the adhesive from the old cells is a little tricky but this is otherwise a straight forward procedure. I got my battery from the iFixit site.
Here is the video for how I replaced the CPU/GPU thermal paste:

DO NOT attempt this unless you really know what you’re doing and/or are willing to break your computer.

I picked up my battery from an Amazon vendor, and it looks to be the exact same battery you had, right down to the same spec's, colour of plastic piece on the bottom and sticker on the front. I had my computer worked on some time ago, as my trackpad wasn't working correctly, thus the two machine screws at the electrical connection for the batteries, where/are missing, but it's worked perfectly for months, as this is my 2nd replacement since buying this MacBook in 2013/2014. I did have to push the electrical connection downward some to get it to fit correctly, but didn't check it afterwards, put the lid on after screwing it down, and it fired up (with a slight delay) showing 24% charged, so I plugged it in right away. The small manual that came with the battery, has the same spec's mentioned, on charging to 100% and leave it charging for another 2 hours. Then fully discharge....then recharge again. I'm thankful for having an iMac, where I could watch you go through the uninstall, while doing so in front of me...stopping the video as needed. Appreciate the steps you went through, although it took me some time to get mine cleaned, but I had some 'adhesive remover' from a previous job of taking off a decal over the summer.

Where can I avoid getting an ill-fitting battery replacement like the one shown here?

Great video! I did my replacement without using the adhesive remover and instead of the thread I used a wire (from my son's pottery tools)! Thank you!

TOUCHPAD MALFUNCTION - due to battery beginning to fail. Battery cells were swelling up and pushing back up against the touchpad making it impossible to "click" on the touchpad corners. Now ordered and will be changing the battery. MID2014 MacBook Pro 15" Retina.

Anyone bought one of the chinese brand replacement kits available at Amazon? They're more or less on the same price point as the ifixit one here.

I didn’t consider buying my replacement battery thru I fix it but bought it thru aliexpress instead which is way more original than iFixit it is originally all made in China so it only make sense to get it from where it is produced my battery installed and worked way better almost like the original which I presume is original as
    Described in the sellers list

@solar Five - If you click on the apple logo in the top left of your desktop screen then click the about tab in the drop-down menu, a window will open up and display with computer you have. It will read early/mid/late and then a year. Go the the iFixit website and find the battery that matches what your Mac is. The iFixit website is very intuitive.

@MrOSdgaard - It was actually a Christmas gift from a couple years ago, so I have no idea where it came from. Sorry!

You should drain them to 50%, not 0%. The electrons never leave the battery, they're just in a different place, so wheather it's at 0% or 100% they're all in the same place. 50% is when it's balanced.

I would say great video, but you time-lapsed the battery disconnection... That might be important to some viewers.
