  • How to change brake pads and rotors on a Mazda MX5 Miata ND ND2- installing Carbotech XP10/XP8
    I did not mention it the video but it is recommended to clean the rotors with a brake cleaner prior to the installation. Many times the rotors have a thin layer of oil to protect them from rusting prior to being installed. However the rotors I had where coated instead hence I did not see any need for that.

    In todays video I will be showing how to install new brake pads and rotors on my 2019 MX5 30th Anniversary.
    The car has 4 piston Brembo calipers up front and standar done piston calipers that is shared amongst all 2015-2021 MX5 ND and ND2 models.
    I will be installing Carbotech XP10 on the fronts and Carbotech XP8 on the rears. I will also be installing OEM brembo brake rotors.
    WIth regards to the brake fluid I will be running Motul RBF600 however I will do the fluid change once the we are close to the season start

    Great job Maz. One of the best videos on the net. Well documented. The only question is why did you replace the rotor?

      Thank you! Glad you liked it! I didn't want to transfer anything from the old compound. So to eliminate any chance of doing so I sprung for new rotors as well.

    Thanks man! I'm about to put on my pads this weekend, very helpful! how's the brake noise with carbotech? I'm using G-loc (very similar compound) hoping its not too loud once it's bedded in properly

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you, hope it helps. You are doing just pads or rotors as well? Either way it could be to check the recommendations on how to do the bed with new or alternatively used rotors for thale givennpd. Also if new rotors give them a hit with a brake cleaner in case there is some oil or similar on them.
      How they will sound I will know in a couple of weeks 😆

      @Themazcorner  Před 3 lety

      Ahh ok! Are you doing the resurfacing yourself? Was thinking of doing that but I'll keep "OEM" those rotors and pads for when I am selling the car. But re-using the rotors is much cheaper. I paid almost 300EUR for the rotors alone :S

    As many have said, great job! Can you share a link to the caliper piston compression tool you used to eliminate the guessing. Amazon has a lot of choices and figured I'd get whatever you have bought which has proven to work.

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  Před 2 lety

      really sorry for the late response! I will try to find something on Amazon for the rears, if you are in a pinch you can actually turn them using a plastic flat tool of any kind(plastis to reduce risk of scratching the piston). Could use anything flat that fits to be honest. For the fronts you can use the intendended caliper depressing tool or the clamps I showed as well(almost easier with that to be honest)
      I did not buy mine of Amazon, bought it from a local store here in Sweden. But let me check and I will get back if I can find the tools available in US for the rear caliper. There is some sort of cube used as well used by folks which do attach to a rachet wrench.
      By the way did you drop me a mail with similar question? If yes you have my reply here :D, will get back if I can find anything in the Amazonas :)
