Simple Ready Made Solenoid Kicker

  • Simple solenoid kicking mechanism for your robotic/automation project.
    Circuit diagram: goo.gl/7zy8vR.
    If you want to activate the kicker using wireless RF remote relay module, then use this circuit: goo.gl/CFRWC2. It is combined with a micro switch for local activation feature and the best part is, both of the relay and switch are working together to cut the supply from ZVS capacitor charging module to prevent back current when either one is pressed/triggered. When both are idle, they will make sure the loop to the capacitor is always established to ensure the solenoid activation is always ready.
    (Updated on 1 June 2018): Watch this solenoid kicker used in real robot soccer competition here: • Autonomous Vision-guid... .
    (Updated on 11 January 2019): For a larger and more powerful solenoid, you may refer here: goo.gl/RyQ9RJ.

    Love it I love it. Just what I was looking for. You must be pushing the boundaries by going as high as 400 Volts on a 12 Volt Solenoid. That is more than thirty times more than designed for! BUT I love how powerful it is👿. Yea.

      Working principle of a coil gun. But I thing the relais is burned out quite fast. The solenoid is also not build for this kind of hammering force and will eventually destroy itself.
      The coil is not powered for a long time so should be able to handle The higher current.
      So yes its possible. But not a good idea.

    Nice project, man! Congratulations! One question: I used to power solenoids directly with a DC charger. I triggered it from the microcontroller using a transistor. My intetion is building something like an inpact piston, but I want to be able to finely tune the speed/impact force, perhaps incorporate a control system to automatically do this.
    But I never really quite understood how to control the strength/speed of the solenoid in this setup with a DC charger. I thought I was restrained to use the voltage specified on the solenoid (usually either 12V or 24V on those I bought from AliExpress), so I tried changing the charger amperage, but with very little effect on the speed/impact force. By watching your video, perhaps there is something I am missing in this problem.
    What is the importance of the capacitor in this circuit? Is it because we can activate the solenoid with a higher voltage burst? Do you have any ideas what component I could use to control the speed/impact force of the solenoid?

    Hey mate, your videos have been very helpful so thank you very much. I have a question though: would the kicker kick harder when I use a supercapacitor of 2.7V and 500F?

    • @nudgeme4844
      @nudgeme4844  Před 4 lety +3

      Hello, thank you buddy. For the question, the answer is most probably no. Because using that supercapacitor, the maximum voltage that it can contain is only 2.7V even we charge it using 390V capacitor charger. Large capacity alone will not help to push the kicker. For example I once have tried to drive the kicker using low voltage like 20V but with 2 units of 3300uF (giving it 6600uF), the result is the kicker kicked softly. I also have tried the other way, using 390V but with a small capacity like 100uF, the result is the same, the kicker kicked very softly. So for the conclusion, you need a high value of voltage together with a large value of capacity to make the kicker kick hard.

    • @nudgeme4844
      @nudgeme4844  Před 10 měsíci +1

      As long as you guard the solenoid chassis with proper bracket, it will survive the impact damage for a long time. I have used the bigger solenoid coil and plunger, with higher capacitor capacity, it was able to kick normal soccer ball pretty forceful, and the solenoid chassis fell apart several times. After I reinforced the chassis by welding additional brackets, it turned out to be stronger in construction. The coil itself didn't experience any burn out however. It is because the current supplied is kind of low despite the large voltage used in the circuit.

    • @Thessalus
      @Thessalus Před 10 měsíci

      @nudgeme4844 I see very interesting, so even though the coil is rated at 12v the current is not increasing by much and because its such a short burst it doesn't appear to adversely affect the coil. I might give it a go! Thankyou!

    • @nudgeme4844

      Ok, perhatikan perkara-perkara berikut:
      1. Pastikan power supply membekalkan kuasa yang cukup. Perhatikan larasan arus selain larasan voltan sekiranya menggunakan DC power supply. Sekiranya menggunakan bateri, pastikan bateri mempunyai kuasa yang cukup. Ukur voltan menggunakan voltmeter atau multimeter.
      2. Periksa solenoid takut-takut dia ada putus dalaman. Uji menggunakan continuity test pada multimeter.
      3. Lihat fius pada ZVS capacitor charger, samada terputus atau tidak.
      4. Adjust variable resistor pada ZVS capacitor charger. Putar sehingga output voltagenya meningkat kepada 390V (boleh ukur menggunakan voltmeter atau multimeter tanpa sambung kepada capacitor).
      5. Jika output ZVS capacitor charger sudah mencapai 390V apabila tidak bersambung ke capacitor, tetapi tiba-tiba menurun apabila disambung kepada capacitor, mungkin ada kesilapan dalam menyambungkan litar. Check pin NC, NO dan C pada limit switch supaya tidak tersilap sambungannya.
      6. Jika semua sambungan sudah betul, lihat limit switch takut-takut ia sudah rosak. Saya dulu mengalami masalah yang sama hanya kerana limit switch sudah cair, menyebabkan litar pintas berlaku dan ia telah menghalang arus sampai ke capacitor.
      7. Periksa wayar takut-takut ada yang putus dalaman. Gunakan wayar yang tebal kerana cas yang dilepaskan adalah amat tinggi.
      8. Mungkin ZVS capacitor charger tidak bersesuaian. Dahulu ada rakan saya yang guna ZVS capacitor charger yang modelnya tidak dapat menampung kuasa yang tinggi.
      Harap dapat membantu. Terima kasih.
