Man 4K, G-Sync, Mantle, Oculus Rift, Steam Box, SteamOS and the steam controller. It's going to be an interesting future for PC Gaming. Goodbye status quo.
I just want to thank you guys for the exceptional coverage of CES, I literally feel like I am there, and no other CZcams channel I'm subscribed to came even close to the amount of videos and detailed reviews you guys are doing, keep up the awesome work
I have a Thinkpad 700 for $70 (In 1992 it cost $4000 that's about a million clams in today's dollars ...) -- if you don't mind running DR DOS ( Windows 95 wasn't invented yet ) and 4 MB of RAM, oh yeah, it comes with an external 5 1/4 floppy drive at no extra cost :)
i'm looking hard at the Aorus X7, the dual GTX 765m's are equal in sorts to the 780m, and the core i7, with 16 gb of memory packed into a small light package, that doesn't have a TN panel! it can also run 3 displays, and overall as linus says, doesn't get too hot on the keybord. Also my elitebook is dieing so need a replacement soon!
yes i know laptop's can't possibly be as good as a desktop. Since they use lower screen resolutions they get good performance, I just think it's cool they can fit a 4k screen in a 15 in notebook
I love the Y50. I have it and the performance is great. The fan is very quiet as well, which is a plus. The only downside that I can think of is that the keyboard can get a bit hot when playing games that are highly demanding. Otherwise, this laptop is a great choice for its price range and I would highly recommend buying it if you're getting a ~1000$ dollar price range laptop.
Razer Blade 14 ftw because I actually own one and it's incredible. It's impossibly thin, the keyboard, glowing logo, and aluminum chassis are great looking, and the performance is amazing for such a small notebook.
as an owner of a gigabyte p35k, im all about portable gaming laptops and that auros x7 looks great with sli and a sil form factor, but 4k on a laptop really caught my ears.
TragicTopGun50 Razer is innovative with their products and hence the price tag, not to mention that they are the pioneers of every system they have ever brought to the market, till date.
TragicTopGun50 razer is thin, alienware is thick. razer is exceptional in performance while maintaining slimness design, alienware didn't perform really well for it's size and specs.. see some reviews on the internet which is better, and don't compare those two
Gerard Frani Keep in mind the cooling. Especially in the slimmer laptops, the cooling solutions needs to be creative. I'm talking about things like heatpipes.
Linus, Thanks, for doing this comprehensive round up. Even though some of the details are vague (MSI), it's good to have the upcoming high-end gaming notebooks all in one video, so those shopping for one have a good place to start their comparisons.
I'm actually somewhat impressed with the Alienware 18. Somewhat, is the key word here. For that same laptop it's probably going to cost you your first two children's souls.
David Braswell Theres people with m17x r2s from 2010 with duel 7970m cards installed beating out the performance of the 290x and edging up to 780s. notebookcheck. Keep in mind theyre made with a metal chassis/body and WILL last forever.
David Flores Wait the 7970 came out in 2012, how did people have the mobile version in CFX in 2010 when Nvidia's 4xx and AMD's 5xxx series cards were out?
Alienwares use industry standard mxm3.0 slots for their gpus. In other words, you can upgrade them. Most laptops have gpus that have been soldered in to prevent them from being upgraded (*COUGH Asus*).
Linus I have loved all your CES videos, looks like a great year to be there. Can't wait to upgrade my Macbook Pro into one of those gaming notebooks. Thanks for the video
as a Y500 owener, I really liked the Y50. As Linus said, it improves in ant possible way-better screen(not only the resolution, but also the viewing angles), it's much more powerful, and the palm rest area is now soft touch and not aluminum-which got disgusting on mine very quickly
I have the new Razer blade notebook and it is amazing! I had an Alienware before and it didn't even come close to the portability to power ratio of the Razer.
A laptop with dual GTX 780m graphic cards running Arkham Origins at 60hz 4k is pretty awesome. I want a 4k monitor with some type of g-sync-esk technology.
My grandparent got one razer, it is expensive but like he said : ''There's nothing thinner''. And man, I've saw that sony lineup that are thin, but the raw horsepower on a razer with that espicifaction is just mind blowing. Said that I'm happy with my asus g73jw for traveling, but I would love to get something lighter.
my favourite of your list was the razor blade 14 because it is smaller than a 15.6" screen. every notebook above 15.6" is just too large to be portable.
I liked the one most with the super secret ingredients. I mean half of these notebooks have something that you are not allowed to tell us. I don't see much reason to introduce them to us then (it was especially bad with the MSi one)
Linus isn't allowed to tell us what's in them. Either the companies won't let him know, or he's under a non-disclosure agreement with said companies. If he were to break that agreement, there would be no "LinusTechTips."
To let us know... A) That they exist B) What they look like C) What companies made this year D) The specs of undisclosed laptops. Think of it like this....They went here to show us many things, in this case gaming laptops, and want to showcase all of them. Why exclude the ones with "secret" hardware from the bunch just because we don't know the specs *yet*?
g0ggy This isn't a review, or unboxing, or first look. It was just his favorite gaming laptops at the show, to give us an idea on what to look out for in the future.
69guitarchick And I still see no reason to present these laptops when there is nothing to present. What makes these laptops their favourite of the show? Sure, some of the stuff gets mentioned, but most of the time it's just "well, it's a great laptop, but we can't tell you why we like it".
Do any of these cost less than $1000 or anywhere near it? Someone needs to come out with a value gaming laptop and dominate the market! Lord knows its there. I'd also like to see more 11 inch notebooks. Shame Alienware discontinued the M11x.
I'm sooo excited for the lenovo y50. I have a lenovo y580 right now that is coming to be around 2 years old. Do you have any idea when the y50 is coming out? Can you guys please thumbs up this comment so that Linus sees! I love your videos by the way.
My favorite notebook was the auros x7 because its has 2 pretty good graphics "cards" and an I7 all in a super sleek and awesome looking chassis, the fact it doesn't run really hot is just incredible awell
I want a razer blade pro but with you withholding a graphics card name's that are in some of these laptops I think I will have to wait. Not like I have to money so its not much of a choice anyway right now.
The reason he's "withholding" the gpu is because either A.) The companies didn't disclose them, or B.) He's under a Non-disclosure Agreement about the subject, and could face a serious lawsuit if he did tell us.
charlesburton95 Yes I'm aware of those possibilities lol. its pretty obvious he CANT tell us. I'm just thinking that if there is going to be something more powerful coming really soon I don't want to buy last years model so to speak.
***** Well things are always going to be getting more powerful as far as gaming computers go (unless we hit a hard limit with Moore's law), so the new stuff will always be more powerful. Quantifying exactly how much better is where the identification of the GPU comes into play.
charlesburton95 I know but I when I want to upgrade something I want to get the best that is possible but that is also appealing to me. So I would like to wait to see what is going to be coming out then make a decision. Ok here is an example. If im upgrading my phone (I have an iPhone, keep your opinion to yourself please) and I hear that iPhone 6 (if that's what is going to be called) is coming out in 2 months. I would rather wait for that that then upgrade to an iPhone 5S. Get it now?
Thumbs up for lenovo , I'm thinking about getting y500 because of its performance and price comparison but from your video alienware again caught my eye but despite that impressive performance they show with that beast the overpricing is a downsider. Awesome show man keep it up !
I search and research and asked pros after pros about a gaming laptop. I looked over almost every aming Notebooks even considered a build over off the shelf. Then I came across the ASUS ROG G750JH-DB71 17.3-Inch Laptop and I have to say I am extremely happy with it. I purchased two and happen to catch them on sale which in essence gave me the 4yr protection plan for free. That was one big seller for me since all others charge over 600 for a 4yr plan. In the end its a choice and I waded in the sea of gaming laptops for about 6 months and found one even with the "dont waste money on a gaming laptop build a PC" sharks. I ended back at Toms Hardware and found a great computer geek who helped me so very much every time I came to him with this or that. Only Cons so far: It is a tad heavy Very sensitive touchpad (my girl turned it off it was driving her crazy. Fixed the problem with a mouse and myself just turned down the sensitivity. I wish the speakers were on the top. Has Windows 8 (we are trying it out but if in the end we do not like it will more thank likely install Windows 7.) Pro's Graphics are FAB GEFORCE GTX 780M. Blew me away the fist time I opened a music video it even beat my 50in LCD TV. Sound is great. Everything loads so fast. Can handle multiple apps open at the same time without a hiccup. I like the Lenovo y50 for its 4k amongst other things but wish that it had the same touchpad as the razer blade pro. That touchpad also functions as a second display in I think 1080p and that's just friggin awesome. If they made it like that I would definitely get it then and there( if I had the money that is)
Razer Blade. If I had money, that is one of the 3 things I will buy first(along with Nexus 5 and Nexus 7). It is just the Razer, the backlit keyboard, the form factor/power ratio. Oh, and did I mention it is thinner than a dime(TM) :D.
I would love for a Dell Alienware 18 Laptop, especially due to the heatsink and fan position and obviously the air flow exits at the back! I wish they had kept the opening running right through from left to right at back but am sure that it doesn't become that hot due to the processing power which causes the system to instruct all components quickly enough before bottlenecks occur which is at worse case problematic and causes destability!
You don't need it, because the GPU is connected directly to the laptop screen, so you won't see the bed effects, that's a maybe, make some research to find out more.
***** AMD claim that this problem on notebooks can be solved by a free driver or app called AMD Free sync, AMD will release it soon, I hope that AMD free sync will solve these problems, and it will be free, on the other hand G sync sound like the ultimate solution, but adding a new G sync card to the notebook will be a challenge I think, the notebooks we have can barely hold a mid range CPU and an outdated GPU with updated GPU model numbers, G sync will make the notebooks bulkier and expensive, I hope that Freesunc will save our experience.
I have the lenovo Y410p. I did a video on the laptop and so far I am liking it. The Y50 looks nice very slim but I am happy with the Y410p for now. By the time the laptop starts to crap out, a even better model should come out anyway.
Asus is intriguing...I am still crazy about that massive vent, cooling the system efficiently regardless what you're throwing at it. Also, it is very very quiet !
Well, if you just told the specs of the MSI one I would have a harder time deciding, but now my choice is the Aorus X7. Dual GTX 765M in a slim form factor like that is just amazing.
I am excited by the y50 since it is a lenovo which is well known for quality laptops and it is probably the only one I will be able to afford within the next year. Also 4k that will be interesting. I wonder how much that will jack the price up. I would guess somewhere between 750$-1000$.
MSI can be my next notebook - I'll know for sure when the GPU info & delivery date is revealed. I may buy the Lenovo too if it comes earlier and the GPU is 780
I love your reviews mate. Keep up the good work and greetings from Latvia! :) And yes, I'm looking forward to get my hands on a new Asus stealth thing.
I've always liked the MSI stealth series notebooks. But, I've never liked the gpu choices. If the new one has atleast something along the lines of a 770m I'll be interested.
A best gaming notebooks lineup isn't very relevant without the prices. Out of all of those the Lenovo is probably the only one competitively priced, it's previous models wiped the floor with all other laptops on price for what you get. Asus G series used to be well priced but they've really spiked recently, and alienware and razer have always had trash pricing. MSI's alright, but could be a little better. There was the other laptop from the brand I didn't recognize, not sure on that one.
Asus G750JZ, the fans are amazing than any other gaming notebooks. pleasepleaseplease do a review on that beast Linus one day. I want to know it's full specs.
I would go with the Aorus X7, that much performance in such a slim formfactor is great. And for portable gaming I really don't need any higher resolutions than 1080p. =)
Pretty much Razer's Blade is pretty extremely expensive. If you're looking for a nice computer with a low price then i advice you to get the Lenovo Y500 or 510.
Just can't get over the Razer Blade. I know it's not the best one there, actually a little far from the best one. Tho all of those specs combined inside of that BEAUTIFUL looking laptop, just can't get over. Especially because I'm a student so it's perfect, being thin and light helps a lot for mobility. It's just perfect for a Student gamer.
Razer pro would be a nice portable gaming device for people with gaming desktops. Alienware is a good choice for people without desktops and want a device that they can take with not daily but maybe when traveling or something.
For sheer power, (even though it wasnt at ces) is sager/clevo because they have the same and better specs as the alienwares. AND are a shit ton cheaper
Why on earth are Razer showing the old blade.. I got happy and thought Linus was going to say this Blade 14 is a little upgraded I'm terms of screen resolution and technology and that its got Ethernet port and GTX 770M. ..BUT NOOOO .. Dam have they even said if the Blade 14 is releasing in the UK!?
The G750JZ is my favorite because I have the G750JX haha just got mine 3 months ago but not tempted because I know theirs like a 600 dollar price difference.
Man 4K, G-Sync, Mantle, Oculus Rift, Steam Box, SteamOS and the steam controller. It's going to be an interesting future for PC Gaming. Goodbye status quo.
All these awesome things that I can't afford :(
GTX 800 series are in those laptops with "undisclosed" features. It is SO obvious.
I just want to thank you guys for the exceptional coverage of CES, I literally feel like I am there, and no other CZcams channel I'm subscribed to came even close to the amount of videos and detailed reviews you guys are doing, keep up the awesome work
I have $70. Which one can I buy?
None they all cost around 1000 to 3000 so yeah #up your budget
Ajani Amedee good job captain obvious
I have a Thinkpad 700 for $70 (In 1992 it cost $4000 that's about a million clams in today's dollars ...) -- if you don't mind running DR DOS ( Windows 95 wasn't invented yet ) and 4 MB of RAM, oh yeah, it comes with an external 5 1/4 floppy drive at no extra cost :)
metaspherz Wow... Thats exactly what I'm looking for, at a great cost! I'll now be able to run Battlefield 4 at 1000 FPS! Thanks so much!

Sheit I actually ment from, not at.
Proudly presenting the MSI Overheater (TM).
with Afterburner II Technologically
i'm looking hard at the Aorus X7, the dual GTX 765m's are equal in sorts to the 780m, and the core i7, with 16 gb of memory packed into a small light package, that doesn't have a TN panel! it can also run 3 displays, and overall as linus says, doesn't get too hot on the keybord. Also my elitebook is dieing so need a replacement soon!
i have the lenovo y410p and it's amazing. I can't wait to see what the new 4K version will hold

i play fullscreen at 1366x768 and i can play planetside 2, saint's row 3, minecraft, etc. at ultra with no lag

***** not really
true, but we dont know what gpu it will have yet so who knows how well it will game
yes i know laptop's can't possibly be as good as a desktop. Since they use lower screen resolutions they get good performance, I just think it's cool they can fit a 4k screen in a 15 in notebook
In terms of value the y50 takes the cake.
BUT HOW DO I GET 4K? D:
Treyvon Dee honestly it's kind of a gimmick. The GTX860m can't play games decently at 4k. And the screen is too small to enjoy a 4k movie on.
I realize that but I can't find a 4k version anywhere.
Treyvon Dee you're right it's not available yet...
I love the Y50. I have it and the performance is great. The fan is very quiet as well, which is a plus. The only downside that I can think of is that the keyboard can get a bit hot when playing games that are highly demanding. Yeah if only it was't $2,500. And people say Alienware is overpriced.

That handshake in the background at 7:40.
So why aren't they making 4K 24" monitors? Or at least 1440p.
Dell did

Loving the smirk on Linus' face when he says we cannot tell you what's inside. He's thinking "MWAHAHAHHA FUCKKKKKKKK YOU!".
The first gaming notebook is MSI GS60 Ghost Pro.
Good list. My favorite is probably the unnamed MSI one, the mystery intrigues me.
I have the new Razer blade notebook and it is amazing! I had an Alienware before and it didn't even come close to the portability to power ratio of the Razer.
Can i ask about the battery life?
Raizur 6 hours
Can you guys tell me if buying a used razer blade on Amazon is a good idea and would it be reliable
A laptop with dual GTX 780m graphic cards running Arkham Origins at 60hz 4k is pretty awesome. I want a 4k monitor with some type of g-sync-esk technology.
i would put my money on ASUS... price and performance sweet spot. and engineering capabilities and overall reputation.
My grandparent got one razer, it is expensive but like he said :

D) The specs of undisclosed laptops.

Sure, some of the stuff gets mentioned, but most of the time it's just "well, it's a great laptop, but we can't tell you why we like it".
Linus, you've said this in three seperate videos about the Auros: 'Not a TN panel' - The Auros does indeed have TN panel.

Lenovo and asus look the best to me
I have the lenovo Y410p.
I would rather see cheap laptops dropping 1366x786 screens for at least 1080p screens before anything else.
Well, if you just told the specs of the MSI one I would have a harder time deciding, but now my choice is the Aorus X7. Dual GTX 765M in a slim form factor like that is just amazing.
Got to go for the MSI, really exiting notebook, and so beautiful. Also Razer Blade looks tasty being so small.
I am excited by the y50 since it is a lenovo which is well known for quality laptops and it is probably the only one I will be able to afford within the next year. Also 4k that will be interesting. I wonder how much that will jack the price up. I would guess somewhere between 750$-1000$.
Been waiting for this video!!!
Loved the Lenovo! Super slim and gorgeous!
really hope that razer blade will come with dvd reader and projector connector in the future...
i bought the ASUS G750JX notebook a couple of month ago. I am very happy with the performance with games and it does not get very hot.
MSI can be my next notebook - I'll know for sure when the GPU info & delivery date is revealed. I may buy the Lenovo too if it comes earlier and the GPU is 780
One of the best channels in Europe too :D
My favoraite right now is the aorus gaming laptop .. because its so slim , sli , awesome KB and track pad and its temp importantly ♡
I love your reviews mate. Keep up the good work and greetings from Latvia! :) And yes, I'm looking forward to get my hands on a new Asus stealth thing.
Love the Gigabyte lappie but will be out of my price range. The Lenovo Y50 looks awesome! Will love to upgrade my ol' Thinkpad!
The lenovo looked sick and really slim but the alienwear rocked my world! If i could have any notebook of them, i would choose the alienwear.
If that new gs one comes in 14inch im taking it. I wish aorus also made an x6 with a 14inch screen. Like the gigabyt p34g but in a better form factor.
They look absolutely amazing
The Asus G750JZ for sure !!
Hey Linus, great video again as always
Only Linus can show us the exclusive stuff!
Asus G750JZ, the fans are amazing than any other gaming notebooks. pleasepleaseplease do a review on that beast Linus one day. I want to know it's full specs.
razer blade.... looks more like a macbook pro in black?
Thats what I thought it looks good
it dose
Linus! You need to get your hands on the top of the line lenovo notebook with the 4k display for US!
oh gosh that slim msi laptop looks extremely nice, especially since I am looking for a laptop when I go off to college this year
I like the MSI lineup. I can wait for a model with a "4k" screen though.
The MSI top secret notebook looks great. Can't wait to see how that unveils.
Aorus X7! Such a beast notebook. Just scared to find out that huge pricetag for dual GTX 765m >.
the Aorus X7 was my fav, but I have been a fan of MSI so I would pick both.
I think ill go for the MSI but ill have to wait to find out more (The Lenovo Y50 looks cool)
15 inch is just right for me plus 3 pounds is amazing
My favorite and my next notebook will be Aorus X7 Slim!
Thanks for the awesome videos!
My fav was aures x7 Keyboard looks decent but I think I like playing on high res on a gaming desk with a huge screen
still using my m14xr2, love all of these just can't afford another laptop. Good vid man.
still using the m14x R1 lol
The Lenovo Y50 will have a gtx 860m or equivalent to the 770m and being a budget gaming laptop is sweet:D
Nothing beats the Sager 9380-S and the 9570 xD
The G750JZ is my favorite because I have the G750JX haha just got mine 3 months ago but not tempted because I know theirs like a 600 dollar price difference.
The razer blade. Because the older razer blade is a beast
Definitely getting the Aorus X7
My favorite is the Alienware... Because I own an Alienware 17 with a single 780m and it's awesome.
