In this video we will share our Japanese kimono rental shop experience. The kimono rental shop is situated in Nara, the city near Kyoto (Japan) famous for its Natural Park 奈良公園 with deers walking everywhere!
We visited Nara park in spring 2022 for Sakura kimono photoshoot with deers.
In this video I show all the process of putting on the Japanese kimono including inner layers, obi belt and hair making.
All time spent in kimono rental shop in Japan is about 2hours.

I was thinking of buying my own kimono and dressing myself but now ... I don't think I can replicate all that work.
I confirme it is impossible 😅 Japanese women do a special study to learn how to put it on! However you can buy a haori, kind of a short kimono jacket and wear it with your jeans for example! I will show in my future videos 😊
Actually tomesode/short sleeve kimonos (which is what she’s wearing) aren’t that difficult to put on by oneself and there are plenty of how to vids on how to do the obi (called a nagoya obi), now furisode kimonos on the other hand do require more than one person to put on as furisode are famous for their long sleeves and more elaborate obi knots.
Some people have the opinion that Caucasians should not wear kimonos, but I, as a Japanese person, want more people to wear kimonos, regardless of race or nationality.
I don't understand why some people have the opinion that Caucasians should not wear kimonos at all. ┐(´д｀)┌

着物を着るのは大変だったと思いますが、昔の日本人は１人で着ていたんですよ。初めて着ると息苦しく感じたでしょうね。
外国では日本人以外が着物を着ると"文化の盗用"と批判されたりしますが、日本人はそう思いません。
着物に興味を持ってもらって、着て楽しんでもらうことは、日本文化へのリスペクトになると思います。

I agree with you, Japanese people are usually very friendly when they see foreigners wearing kimono. They look happy to see the Japanese culture is interesting for other nations and that the tradition can keep alife ❤

Honest question, how thin/not heavy do you need to be to have this experience properly? Kimonos are very form fitting, and I worry that my rolls would not be an easy thing for the staff to dress on-top of, 🥺.

To answer your questions, kimono usually is very big and must be adopted to the size (as you can see in the video). The one we rented for our photo shoot is smaller than usual kimono. I think you have a good chance that it will fit you 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Does it feel fine on the feet on winter season? Planning to visit Kyoto this January 2024z
Hello, there is a winter kimono, the different to this one. So it’s ok to rent in January. Also I recommend to use warning patches, you can find them in any shop in Japan in winter 😊
