    Late to the party, but this is a great review. I've just used the 16" version for nearly 8 months and apart from the incredible display and best keyboard I've ever used on a laptop. Everything else was fairly underwhelming for the pretty hefty price here in Australia. Flipping it over to use as a tablet feels incredibly awkward and your keyboard and touchpad are fully exposed underneath it. Just asking for scratches or damage to them... note, no pen, and no braided power cord in the Australian version also. Returned mine as the left hinge continually misaligned itself with general use even after repair/replacement (just standard opening and closing on desk) gotta say HP service is incredible though.

    I wish Samsung weren't obsessed with 16:9. Then HP would be forced to improve the Spectre (maybe). I've only heard good things about the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 (what is with the naming scheme? smh) but the aspect ratio holds it back, which is bizarre because Samsung started distributing the 2.8k 90Hz OLED panels for other laptop manufacturers months before their Galaxy Book refresh.

    I watched this again, and found the recommendation that people buy a Macbook Air instead of this odd, even apart from the fact the Macbook Air isn't a convertible (which I commented on already). The Air is certainly better for *some* people, but there are advantages and disadvantages to each.
    My wife and I use this Spectre and an M2 Air, and although the Air is a good laptop, the HP is *way* better for academic work (reading, writing, editing, annotating, note-taking) and media consumption. Its advantages include a much better display (OLED, HDR, higher definition), better display ratio for work, being touch and stylus enabled, being convertible, having Thunderbolt 4 ports, a Type-A port, and an SD card reader, a much better keyboard, a better camera (5MP with auto frame, ring light, lighting correction, camera switch, and microphone switch), facial login, better wifi and Bluetooth, less heat, and a better OS for multitasking. It's hard to see how all that is outweighed for *most* people by . . . longer battery life?

    • @JustJoshTech
      @JustJoshTech  Před rokem +3

      The MOST important point is that it is right for you. For many people they would prefer longer battery life and less heat and fan noise. Apple gives that to them. But if the Spectre is what's better for your use case! That is what matters to me :)

    • @nickydrake3252
      @nickydrake3252 Před rokem +1

    Subbed.
    I looked at Dell and HP before I bought from Lenovo, for some reason they're significantly more expensive than Lenovo here in Canada, so I thought I'd share my experience after a month with the latest gen Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 inch with 12700H + Intel ARC A370M GPU. Straight off the bat you get a 100W power supply which is needed for the H+370 to run at optimal speed. Lenovo's intelligent cooling has been fantastic as well as decent passive cooling, the fans won't turn on on at all in best efficiency mode even when using my pro stylus on a huge canvas.
    I did start looking for a U series solution but you tend to get stiffed on the other components like RAM and SSD speed, sometimes even chassis quality, so I took a chance on the H + ARC, I'm an Apple refugee, forced to migrate fully to windows after 35 years of perma Apple eco nonsense, this Yoga easily trades punches with the best of Apple's products I've used over three decades, that includes two 15 inch Macbook Pros and a G4 17 inch which was a brick, both 15s were heat sinks and would often burn my nuts if using on my lap.
    Now for anyone who thinks the grass is greener on the other side, it's not, there are numerous issues with the new Apple silicon and MacOS is a shadow of it's former greatness, you'll get gouged for what is going to be a short term gain, Intel's gen 14 architecture will be very similar to Apple's as they are moving part of their chip production to TSMC who's 3-4nm wafers are used by everyone including Apple, ARM, Nvidia and AMD. Apple's brief period of brute force supremacy is going to be very short lived as they license technology from ARM of which Microsoft are now putting in some of their laptops, the personal computer landscape is about to change drastically, brute force is done, we'll have power efficient monsters that generate no heat in slim form chassis' from all manufacturers. Don't jump now unless you have to for work or specific applications. But we can all thank Apple for firing the first shot, Intel didn't plan to do this until the end of the decade.

    I have the same spectre 14 from last year with the rose gold frames on the laptop with a 1195G7. I noticed the cpu ramps up rapidly in idle that is due to HP's bogus background apps that came pre-installed.
    To solve this problem, I did a fresh install of Windows on the SSD with an external windows usb image (not re-install windows with the built-in recovery on windows as it will just re-use the image that came from HP factory). Thereafter, I installed the essential apps after, such as all the drivers needed for the laptop as installed after a windows update, manual update the bios, and essential apps such as HP command centre, Hp display control etc. Every other app that was not useful I did not install and it solved my problem of the fans ramping up.
    This is also a problem on all HP laptops as I used to own a HP 14s laptop and it just ramps up the fans unreasonably because of the background apps run on windows that were pre-installed by HP. It seriously hinder performance both on idle and during workload and decreases battery life otherwise would be longer.
    Having said this, usual customers do not have to do this. I did this because I come from a background of building desktop pc and I know what the essential apps ans softwares are for running a windows system and no customers have to go through this. Althogh this does fix my problem of sudden burst of cpu usage because HP had pre-installed bad apps that will trigger sudden fan spinning during low or idle use. I can then silently and confidently use the HP spectre x360 14 in court rooms to record transcripts because I know the fact that the laptop are functioning without bogus apps.

People with PCs don't generally need to use a tablet as well, and surely PCs aren't *that* much better than Macs. I also don't see how having to buy and carry around an extra device with you isn't a compromise - it's certainly an expense and hassle I can do without.

    Please stop comparing the Apple Silicon MacBooks with Windows laptops. One cannot run the other's OS, which already puts the MacBook DoA, and yes, while Asahi Linux is good, it's still not ready.

    Don’t forget the MBA M1 that can be had regularly for $850-$899 and will be a way better experience than this. That is unless you have to have windows for some reason.

    For non-gaming Apple Silicon is the best overall choice for now. Amd and Intel are hitting a dead end.

    I just bought a Spectre x360 in Canada after student discount and some sales for a 1190 before tax. I know, crazy deal.
    Anyway, most of the negatives in this video don't apply to my case as I have an IPS, don't use keyboard backlight as much and have an i5 that doesn't get too warm. So I am a really happy man!

      The 3:2 aspect ratio helps a ton with vertically oriented stuff. The only time difference is noticeable is when I am viewing horizontally orientated stuff or multiple windows.
      It took me 2 days to get used to it. I love it. The pen for 2-in-1 is awesome for my math class

    Ok, if this is an HP video, then why do you keep on talking about a Mac Book? I don't get it. If you wanted this to be a video about Apple products then you should have titled it as such. I didn't click on the video to hear about a damn Mac Book off and on the whole video. I clicked on it to hear about the HP computer.
