- In this episode we show you our homemade drag for our lawn mower. We built this using only items we had on hand in our shop that we had collected over the years. We love using what could have been junk to make viable tools and save money.

FINALLY! An easy to construct and effective drag that doesn't cost a fortune to build! THANK YOU.
Ha ha, You are welcome!! It gets the job done. :)
Terry
I love seeing other people’s inventions. I love channels like this .
I am right there with you!! Thanks for watching!!
Terry
THANKS BUDDY ! HELLO FROM CENTRAL FLORIDA ! I HAVE ALL OF THE PARTS IN MY SHED/YARD! FIRST ONE THAT I HAVE COME ACROSS THAT IS EASY TO MAKE AND USE!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching! Its simple but effective.
Terry
Perfect, I have all of these materials in my garage, recently installed retaining wall fill needs grooming. Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks.
Awesome! Hope it works out for you.
Terry
Smartest thing I've seen yet~! Real good Terry~! Going to build one just like it., thanks loads brother~!
Thanks! It get the job done but you want to do the dragging as soon after the dirt is worked as possible. If the soil is still loose it does a decent job. It just takes a lot of laps, ha ha. Better than spending the big bucks if you don't have to.
Terry
I like it. Great idea. Always good to be able to turn something not needed into something useful.
Thanks Steve. Its always nice when crazy ideas actually work, lol. We may have a failure or two every once in a while.
Thanks for posting, I was looking for some ideas for a drag for a gravel drive and parking area, now I'll be able to use the old 4" metal conduit that's been lying around for ever. Thanks for the inspiration, Happy Holidays from Ireland. 🌍
Happy Holidays to you too!! Thanks for the kind words and I hope it works out for you. We love making junk into something useful.
Terry
BEST diy build I've seen for the time, money, and simplicity! Thank you!
Thanks! We are always looking for a way to save money and get the job done. Its not perfect but if you don't mind spending the seat time it will get the job done. I personally enjoy riding a tractor doing just about anything on it.

@@ForestToFarmThrough researching homemade harrows and diy drags, I learned a $6 forged eye bolt can be used in one of those 6"x6"s to easily bend rebar. Just thread the rebar through the eye so the short end rests on the timber, then push the long end upwards. (To gain greater leverage, a piece of steel pipe can be used over the extended rebar side). For my purposes, scrap 1/2" and 3/8" rebar served as a kind of substitute for the inverted pipe clamps utilized in this video. I just bent what rods I had laying around into large staple-shaped pieces. I altered other aspects of the project as well, but only because I did not have the same materials on hand (and because I'm going to try my truck in lieu of a mower, lol). Over all, the core idea remains the same though. And, your design remains far superior to all others I've seen! I intend to duplicate it more closely soon.
Meanwhile, I am curious if you used your drag over any grassy areas? (Think rural lawns, not open fields...) How'd that turn out?
@@LeviGordonWright Hey Levi. I think the rebar is a great addition. Its much tougher than the u bolts we used. The only place we have used ours is where you saw in this video. It was already mostly busted up ground from clearing and all we needed done was dragging the dirt out level. I doubt it would do much good on compacted soil or grassy areas. Just not enough weight to make it rip into things. Let us know how it works out for you! And thanks for sharing.
Terry
Thanks for this, exactly what I wanted, like you I have most of the bits already. I will have one made in the morning. Thanks again
Awesome! I love making usable stuff out of junk lol. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Terry
Great idea! Simple and effective. It's something that I can use at my place where I don't need anything expensive nor fancy. Was confused a bit at the beginning but you explained it perfectly. Thank you! 👍👍👍
Thanks Guy! We like to keep it simple when possible. Good luck. Check back later, we have more junkyard jewels coming in the future, lol.
Terry
In the Army we had an acronym for that: K.I.S.S..... Keep It Simple Stupid! Ha ha ha
In the Army we had an acronym for that: K.I.S.S..... Keep It Simple Stupid! Ha ha ha
Best way to go. Life is to complicated.
The simple way is often the best way.
Yep. I like saving money ha ha. Thanks for watching!
Terry
I like it. I have been looking for something easy. Thank you.
You are welcome. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Terry
cool video. My wife talked me out of making one before, but now you gave me confidence. lol
Ha ha don't blame us if she gets mad, lol. Good luck!
Terry
Thanks Buddy, I've been looking for ideas for a while. This is the one for me.
You are welcome. Its not going to dig solid hard clay up but if you have already worked soil that is fairly loose it will do a decent job of it.
Terry
@@ForestToFarm My neighbor built a pole bldg and had extra dirt. We filled in a low area on our property. I tried a hand held garden rake but it was like a drop in a bucket, and too many hard chunks. Im planning to make the drag tomorrow and load it with some weight. I'll let you know. Thanks.
@@tommytrex8022 Sounds like fun! One thing I learned using mine is it will do more busting up soil if you make circles at a fast pace. Good luck!
Terry
Great job . I made one and it s working great to redo weed and moss gravel driveway I recycle all wood and metal and save money with great ideas , and I m77 yr old young lady
Thanks! You sound like my mom. Very resourceful and independent. If she has a problem she finds the solution.
Terry
Hi Terry - great vid. I was sitting here looking at DR, Lil Spike, Gravel Rascal, etc....too much for the pocket at the moment. Your home made drag is perfect! Thanks and keep making the vidsBobby
Ha, thanks!
Its not much but its a great price! We are going to be making videos for a long time.
Terry
Excellent! Making it happen!! Thank you!
Yeah, its not fancy but it gets the job done, lol.
Terry
Good idea! Easy enough. thank you Sir.
You’re welcome! It did what we needed done. Not exactly fancy though 😂.
Terry
Thanks for the vid. I used your idea of an old bed frame. Works great
Awesome!
Terry
Glad it helped! Terry
Super! I have lots of wood pieces and two good pieces of angle iron. Gonna make me a drag for the ruts in the yard. Thank you!
Awesome! Glad we could help! Nothing like turning trash into something useful.
I agree! My favorite thing to do!
@@texasgemtree Love saving money!
Terry
You just saved me $$ and gave me a project for an evening. I have an old bed frame that i can use. Fabulous idea sir, thank you!!
Great! Hope it works out for you. I Love saving money!!
Terry
hell, you can chain some old tires and drag it with your pickup if u wanted to
@@johndowe7003 Yeah you can use a lot of stuff, old bed springs, chain link fences and lots of stuff. We wanted something that can get into tight spaces and make tight turns. That little old clunker of a tractor does a pretty good job of it.
Terry
@@ForestToFarm indeed, a larger machine isnt always better, i love my 8n because of its size. small and heavy gets it done
@@johndowe7003 Its my dream to own a few of those old 8N tractors one day. I want one to completely restore to its original look and at least one old one that has been well cared for and has that patina that you can not mimic and keep it as is.
Terry
Thanks for the idea!
No problem. Cheap and easy. :)
Terry
Very nice.. Add a white mesh box to top to catch rocks... very nice
Thanks! It works but its slow at getting the job done. :)
Terry
Gday
nice i use to use a old bed mattress burnt the covers off use the wire frame if it needed weight some big rocks or scrap could turn it sideways or on the end whatever worked
cheers
Whatever works! I love turning trash or scrap into usable stuff.
Terry
Good idea, something else that works great is an 8x8 piece of chain link fence. I saw a friend use this and got amazing results.
Thanks. It got the job done. We had a piece of chain link but it was so mangled up (we found it on the land) that we decided to build ours. It was free so that was the biggest advantage. We love free, ha ha.
Terry
very cool upcycle project
Thanks!
Awesome Idea
@@toddcharbonneau1368 tanks!
Terry
Good idea
Thanks, it gets the job done. Nothing fancy but it works, lol.
Terry
Would this work to remove debris from the dirt as well?
Hey Dizzy,
It did pull roots and random debris out of the area. Rocks were pulled up but you had to go around and pick them up if you wanted them removed. Its not fantastic at getting the job done but if the soil it loose and uneven it will help level things out pretty good. We just used what we had available because we had it and it was free, ha ha. The field area looks good and level now so in my opinion mission complete.
Terry
When you guys are done with clearing some more of the land and get your homes "set in stone". Do you guys plan on clearing more land to I don't know maybe start a farm maybe...?
Yes our ultimate goal is to have a small farm. Most of the land will remain forest. We will however clear 3 or 4 acres for a pasture, chickens, garden and orchard areas.
good
Thanks!
Terry
Couldn’t find an old sink to drag?
Did not have an old sink. Our drag worked out pretty well for what we had in it.
Terry
How how it works when it’s being pulled
It does a pretty good job. Best if the soil is already loose. Hard clay would not do well unless busted up first. We were not looking for a super smooth finish but rather just get things mostly level to make mowing a little less bumpy ha ha.
Terry
6x6 looks like a 4x4
Its 6x6. Works fairly good.
Terry
This drag will not level anything. If you had some ground with a couple of mounds , you would have some smooth mounds when your done. Im suprised some people dont call it a smoother, or a grader a leveler.
It worked great for our needs. No its not a farm tractor and implement but it was not supposed to be. Its a cheap way for a poor boy to nock down the lumps and break up the clumps. For someone with no other choice it does improve the conditions. We mow that area weekly. It went from braking my back weekly to a fairly smooth ride and no jarring. Mission accomplished in my book. 😁 it does help to break the soil up first with a disc or something.
@@ForestToFarm I can ee it does a great job making the ground surface smooth. Im going to make one sometime today on a chat covered driveway thats already level. I want the surface smooth also.
I suppose I should have worded my post differently so it would have made it clear that I was pointing out the differences between leveling the ground and smoothing surface.
Like yourself , I dont want to pay any more than i have to, but i might buy an older tractor just because i want one.
I was a Branson tractor dealer in Arkansas for years, I miss having one.
We bought a Kubota B2650. Love it!!
Terry
Hey Dude! I have a John Deere 1050 that I’ll trade for your hair!
Well, whadya say? 🤷♂️
I got a deal for ya. I will let it grow extra long, which does not take long for me, and then trade you the hair and you can make a wig. :)
Terry
OK. 👍
