Massy screwed the whole thing up from the beginning with the needles. When they bent the wishbone where the needles mount there is an indentation where the mounts are welded causing the needles to pitch left or right instead of straight. Look at the adjustment, either your all the way one way or the other because of the tilted needle. Where as if they were straight you would see the needle mounts more in the center with better adjustment. I have a 4590 and my knotters are bolted solid with a precise fit going into the knotters. Only time it misses a bale is if a knot from splicing strings gets in wrong spot. Also the chamber should have access holes so bottom plunger bearings could be replaced annually. It eats a lot of hay but does not like to be crowded . Now for different bale lengths the problem is the trip arm falling in-between the the rolled washer cups. It knocks a ridge on one or other of them , usually the inside one causing a ridge keeping the arm from falling all the way down. New washer cups and grind the tip of the bale size block more tapered and round and your problems will go away. Nice machines!!!!
