California Driver Leaves Car Door Open to Deter Thieves

  • As a slew of smash and grab robberies have plagued the San Francisco Bay area, some drivers are resorting to extreme measures to save their cars from shattered windows. Parisa Hemmat, owner of Grand Flowers in Oakland, California, left the back hatch of her SUV open to show would-be thieves that there’s nothing to take in the vehicle. San Francisco’s mayor is pushing back on accusations of being soft on crime, and took a stand, calling for more aggressive law enforcement.

That was my first thought also. So you prevent them from "breaking in", but offering it up for them to steal it! SMH! Neither situation is good, but I'd rather "HAVE" a car with broken windows, than "NO" car.

Her car comes with GPS. It would take 30 mins or an hour for thieves to find and disable it. Grand theft auto is much of a higher charge than theft. That's something thieves don't want to step onto since they have a getaway black Audi

Oddly enough it’s a psychological deterrent. The thieves think it’s a set up if it’s too easy. I accidentally left my (very packed with expensive equipment) trunk open in the west side of Chicago where I would see drug dealers up at 7 am stashing product in bushes. No one touched my car or anything in it and it was wide open (unbeknownst to me) for at least 20-30 mins. Me being white probably was an extra deterrent, sadly. My very large, tough black friend told me they would jump him before they jump me because if I called the police they’d actually show up.

Night or days it did not matter, gate all around the property did not stop them, homeless ppl camping right next to my fence did not matter to cops, security cameras/systems did not stop them from burglary attemps, and cops did not do any thing about it. Few things I got out of those experiences was I'll neverever live at far liberal states as I felt they penalized law abiding citizens and take it from people who work for what they have, then they turn around and give it to criminals and people who wants free ride.. Property tax I was paying was outrageous for no protection I got. After one of burglary/trespassing attempt, I was once told by the one of the cop, "why don't you build the moat around your property" Yes, that wasprotection I got!! What an ass.

I hard from my neighbor that prostitution was occurring right behind my fence, but when I lived there I was not going to investigate...
My home was right next to the park, and after that experience I have decided I'll never get a property next to a park again..

Those brave enough to steal have chosen their fate. If they show 1 or 2 televised sentencing with harsh punishment, these people will think twice. Also, offer reward to snitches who help capture the masterminds posting on social media about their next hit.

I actually think a type of boot camp or something along those lines that will make them truly think twice would be more of a deterrent.
