You know someone really loves a movie when they have to own it on EVERY format.
Phelan's house is pretty much a VHS warehouse at this point, he sleeps on a crate of extinct video formats in the corner.

The reason the USBs are so rare is because the pointed edges of the packaging was deemed too frightening. A new line of rounded packages were released but by then the damage had already been done.

Of course the USB stick had to be made more mothering and lose it's New York accent, and the less said about the Junior Memory Sticks the better.

I had Ghostbusters 1 & 2 on VHS, the same VHS. It was pretty cool back in the day because there was no credits after GB1, just a title stating "Five years later," after Slimer flies towards the camera.
At the end of GB2, both sets of credits played.
I wish I knew where this VHS cassette was.
If I may ask, was it a recorded double feature off TV or an official release? I don't think I've ever seen that particular release before, not that I ever looked.
@@bubbythebear6891 It was a purchased double feature, Sony released, VHS. I bought it in the mid 90s from a now nonexistent store in the UK.

Wow, the USB stick version is completely different to the one released over here in the UK. Our one was in the shape of the Ghostbusters logo itself, it was also ridiculously expensive, £40 if I recall.
They also did one of another movie too, but I can't remember what that was, but they were sold by Argos here.

Also I have to add I love that you keep referencing that "It's a FAAAAAAKE!" moment in DS9, I watched that episode ONCE as a kid when it first aired and it stuck with me all these years, kind of a joy to know someone else remembered that funny little line read.

The bigger Phelous' Ghostbusters media collection grows, the smaller his room gets
The whole being able to "copy the film from the USB but you still have to have the USB inserted" thing keeps me in mind of how in modern streaming services you can download a video to your device to be able to watch offline but you can only watch it on their terms like on the app and can't copy the video around or anything.

Lots of video games were/are like that, too. You would have to install them onto your computer but still needed to have the disc inserted. Then the pirates would make a "no CD" patch right after the game came out so only paying customers were inconvenienced.
Always good to know somewhere in Canada there's legal pot, bagged milk, and a stash of every format of Ghostbusters around.
Not gonna lie, movies sold in USB sounds like a good concept, although knowing USB sticks they can get lost pretty easy.

How are the novels like? I've read a few movie novelizations and they tend to work on older scripts or include deleted scenes. Interested in knowing if Winstons' character was extended somewhat, perhaps by including his backstory about being in the Air Force.
It does actually I own the novelization for the first and second movie where get alot more to do there's even a really obscure and hard to find third book where he's a very central character

That's SO INCREDIBLY distinct from just having the DVD with me and playing it off of that in my laptop's DVD drive! I can't BELIEVE this form factor completely flopped!
It probably should have been marketed exclusively to military members. It would have been practical when you need to put everything you own in a single bag.

Also, I actually talk to Ernie Hudson once in a while in Zoom meetings with SAG-AFTRA. Great guy, very nice and professional, but knows how to laugh it up to break the monotony which is a treat. I only worked with him once briefly, and I worked in the Ghostbusters from a few years ago which...I rather just forget about and believe it was all a bad dream! Anyway, I should tell him to check out your Ghostbusters episodes on here next time I talk to him which will be around June 13th if I remember without looking at my scheduale. He has a good sense of humor and think he'd get a laugh from watching your episodes, Phelan. Yes, even us Union actors love your channel and need a good laugh between scenes when waiting for our scenes after production moved everything in place. That's why I watch your channel a lot, you're genuinely hilarious which is a rarity these days to find on CZcams. Keep up the great work!

You forgot there was a 3rd movie before ghostbusters afterlife, it's just the script was converted into a video game in 2009.

Your collection of the Ghostbusters movie in all its formats grows ever larger and ever more impressive! You even own the novelization?! That’s incredible! I’ve only skimmed through a few movie novelizations in my day, and I never was terribly impressed by any of them. How is the Ghostbusters novel anyway? Any good?
That reminds me; I’d be very interested to learn about what kind of books you read! And if you buy special editions of said books, if you get multiple copies of titles you are especially fond of, etc. Any chance of that ever happening in the future?
Thank you so much for sharing this little slice of Ghostbusters history with us today, Phelous! It’s fascinating that Ghostbusters is the first movie to be released in this format. Then again, I’ve never met anyone that doesn’t like Ghostbusters, so it was a pretty safe bet choosing that title. It was my favorite movie for the longest time, and it still occupies a spot in my personal Top Ten and in my heart! I’ll never forget recording it off of network TV when I was 8 or 9 years old, standing next to the VCR with my finger hovering over the pause button during the commercial breaks - I didn’t want to end up with ads on my finished recording, lol. It was still pretty much trash, but at least it was trash minus the commercials!

I have that Ghostbusters 2 that you showed during the Widescreen segment, and the Godzilla that matches that Ghostbusters Widescreen with the box really advertising Widescreen.
That budget three movie Blu-ray from Europe is pretty cool and different. I have the North American one, that has the pictures of the Ghostbusters for each movie on it.

You can find it easily by searching for it on CZcams. There’s two different playlists. One with like 10 tracks and another with like 30 something but a few might be missing.

I have a few movie tie in books that have the cast details etc on the back cover. The most unusual I have is probably bioshock: Rapture by John Shirley which has a cover very similar to the bioshock collection steelbook which has details of the team that made the game inside it at the end without any context.

Why did ratdvd never catch on? You can compress a DVD with 0 loss in picture and sound. 2GB there is codecs which would give you a good video. But from the look of it they did not care.
