    • @somersetcace1
      @somersetcace1 Před 3 lety

      @@lisanelson6073 It certainly CAN be related to any drug of choice or any life threatening addiction for that matter and many people over the years have associated it with just that, but it does seem to be talking about cocaine specifically in this song. Despite what you *can* snort off of a mirror, the phrase "chop your breakfast on a mirror" is typically associated with cocaine but also lines like "your life burns faster," are indicative of the cocaine experience. However, as stated it can be related to any life controlling addiction and I see no issue with doing that.

    ‘Fans’ suddenly decided that the drummer they loved since the beginning was no longer a good drummer because he was the first to be outspoken against people sharing copywritten music. To many people he went from being the coolest kid at the party to being the buzzkill that told everyone that trashing hotel rooms wasn’t cool. That’s the reason for the hate. because he thought artists should always be compensated for their hard work. He’s was and still is a phenomenal drummer who was one of the pioneers of metal.

      Ironically, he is the nicest guy these days and if Lars had not done that, we would not have all the music streaming apps out there! They were the option to get past the illegal downloading structure that was established. So if you use any of those apps, thank Lars for his part in starting that streaming ball rolling by being greedy. Also keep in mind that all of their songs from their latest album they released in full on CZcams for free along with their back catalogue on YouYube Music and other streaming apps.

    • @TheBlackQueen
      @TheBlackQueen Před 3 lety +2

      Sorry, but that's not the only reason people say Lars is a bad drummer.
      First off, nowadays, people generally agree Lars was right about Napster, given the current state of income for bands compared to the 1980s. Artists don't receive as much for their music anymore because of illegal downloading. Only those with the highest chart placements get the millions, as opposed to say 30 years ago when just being in the Top 50 scored you the big bucks.
      Secondly, Lars is indeed a very mediocre drummer. he wasn't always a mediocre drummer, especially from 1983 to about 1991. His playing was always a muscular style of playing rather than a technical style which, starting out, is perfectly fine. He was a beginning drummer when they did their first album and he certainly had a lot of talent. But as the 1990s went on, his drumming got simpler and more predictable. He reused a lot of the same fills, often treating every song the same, and completely fails at controlling dynamics. His stick motions use his entire arm to swing and lift when hitting the drums which, if you do too much and start relying on that form, causes problems in your future. But the 1990s don't even compare to his performance in the 2000s when the band were going through internal struggles and he stopped practicing. Whenever they played live, he would often go off beat, mess up his fills, simplify the original drum parts, and generally not care if he was giving a shitty performance. Whether or not that was amplified by his activism is debatable, but those who say people don't like Lars' drumming because of Napster and Napster only are not getting the whole picture.
      As for Van, since most of the stuff he's listened to were studio recordings from their classic era, he doesn't see why people call out his drumming because, from what he hears, it's all good. If we were to show him various performances from the late 1990s and 2000s era, he would see what people mean. There are numerous compilations of Lars' fuck ups and most drum professionals will tell you his technique is very off.

      It’s become a technique of mine to say shit that I think without researching it to see if someone will call me out on my ignorance. So to you I say, thank you for the education. I grew up listening to those old albums and they run through my veins.
      I just looked up lars fails and holy shit. One comment nailed it and said “how can a guy have one job and to it for 40 years and only get worse at it”. He’s like the benjamin buttons of drumming skills.
      I couldn’t believe how bad he screws up. Reminds me of a drummer I left a band over.
      Well, he used to be good anyway
      Cheers.

    Proud LFR family member here! Paused it at 6:30 -ish after your pimp theory. (EDIT: Redeemed yourself at 12:00!) Nothing wrong with looking for meaning in songs and trying to figure out what they are about. Your guess makes sense and I can understand your argument for it. However, the Master is all the drugs of abuse: Alcohol, Heroin, Cocaine, whatever. It controls your life, rules over every decision you make, and then eventually kills you. This song is broken into three distinct parts musically: Part 1 is the frantic search for the fix, Part 2 is slow and melodic and it is the high after the fix, Part 3 is the building rage of needing the next fix. It is a masterpiece about the nightmare of addiction. Absolutely love your reactions, keep it up!

    Metallica...a favorite. Needlework the way is a reference to..injectable things. Sucking darkest clear is another reference to that. Then the booger sugar. He says "Fix ME!!" People turn to drugs for the comfort, the quick fix, but it doesn't fix anything. That interlude is the high, steadily getting more and more intense as the cravings come back, as told by the music. Then the "Where's the dreams I've been after" is that moment of clarity, between it all, that the addict knows something is wrong here, but very few actually act upon. Then it goes back into the addiction. A rhyme without a reason, a life out of season....a person just waiting to die....has completely given up to the drug. It's an intense song.

    I've heard you comment on the drummer in many reactions. Yes Lars is awesome for Metallica. Have you yet listened to any Five finger death punch? If not, you should definitely check out their stuff. One song that the drummer sounds like a machine gun is "lift me up"!!! Yo, you won't regret this. But seriously, any FFDP songs!!

    Pimps and hoes lmao. Love it. You had it with the "booger sugar". It's about drug addiction. The crazy fast music symbolizes the withdrawal taking hold. When it breaks down into the melodic part that's finally achieving the high, but it quickly goes away and is replaced by the aggressive music signifying the demand to satisfy the addiction returning even stronger and with more control.

    Who ever told you that knows nothing about Metallica or what this song is actually talking about. It has to do with drugs and how they control your life. That’s all you think about and its the Master of all your dreams and thoughts. I know I’m a recovering addict. One of my favorite songs of there’s among others. Check out Garage Days!!! Must hear!!!

    Awesome as always brother! Love the pimp theory. I heard another person say it was about BDSM. I'm still with the theory of it being about addiction, mainly the booga suga. I even think the music is written to relay the ups and downs of said addiction. Just sayin.

    • @arc6017
      @arc6017 Před 3 lety +1

      Of course it is about drug addiction and yes the songs up and downs and solo mimic the addiction: desperation for the fix, being high, withdraw and more desperation to get the next fix.
