Tales of Destiny, PS1 (Tales Retrospective)

- In this series we take a deep dive into each entry in the Tales series.
Today we look at the second Tales game and the first to appear on a PlayStation console. With the original Tales of Phantasia team now off in TriACE Namco would request the new Wolf Team to create a sequel to Tales of Phantasia. Could the new team possibly create a solid Tales game without the original staff?

Wooo! Love it! This was my first and still my favorite Tales games followed by Radiant Mythology, Berseria, Abyss, Vesperia, Zesteria, and Arise cause aesthetics xD

My aunt says that the main hero Stan is a really really good guy and too pure that he's been beaten and hit a lot by rutee but he didn't even retaliate or get angry.
One of my favorite RPGs growing up. I still own the original copy that I got back in the 90s. Maybe it's time for a replay.
Or just sell it and live rent free for a year. lol
I picked up a copy for only 200. We rented this two weeks in a row when I was a kid and never actually finished it so now is my time

I think the reason why there's a lot of sword user is because of the multiplayer. I know in the phantasia ps1 version you're mostly stuck playing a caster/archer if you play multiplayer.
Yet the multiplay feels really tacked on in this game due to how hard it is to set up. Also as you know Phantasia didn't orignally have multiplayer hence why everyone bar Cress uses ranged attacks.
@@xenosanctum2531 Correct the first tales didn't have multiplayer, which is why they made a bunch of sword fighters imo
the one game I wish could have gotten a rerelease this year, especially when the game just turned 25. instead we just get another version of Tales of Symphonia.

Tales of Destiny was so underrated, same with Legend of Legaia! Personally, I liked both of them much better than the Final Fantasy series.

Will you do the ps2 version at all now that it’s patched?
This seires is currently only covering the orignal releases. I maybe might cover Phantasia PSX, Destiny PS2 and the R games on a latter date.

just this month the patch for DC was released :D
I really hope it puts a solution to a lot of problems of the original, like certain dungeons in the later half and the story feeling half done at time, like some characters don't feel finished like Kang or Chelsea that just have 1 event for them (Mary and Karyl at least have story moments).
But besides that the game is good just a little frustrating at times.
At least eternia is a lot more intuitive has a great gameplay whit cool mechanics and gimmicks for each character (especially magic users).
Luckly this time you don't need any help just search for the spirits in the third disk-act if you want to do some sidequest

I loved the phantasia psx game, and I was going to play this. Are you telling me that some characters don't interact with the story? Thats one of my biggest peeves with rpgs. Maybe I should play eternia instead, even though at first glance the characters look more interesting in destiny.
@@jessefisher1809 if you wanna play destiny play the DC version. Not the psx one, in the DC you actually got custences with the Other character an story expansion and a really overall better gameplay.
For eternia only the main 4 really interact but they interact a lot and you get to know them well.
Eternia is good I can say that much and destiny DC is also really good so just play both in wathever order you prefer, but Yeah unless you really enjoy classic stuff the destiny of psx is not worth it in my opinion
