Hey everyone, my name is Octorious, and in this PlayStation tips and tricks video, we'll be focusing specifically on God of War 5: Ragnarok! I'll be showcasing 12 settings that I recommend you consider changing before playing the game (or during, if you have already started!), as well as ensuring you have disabled an important PS5 feature to prevent yourself from seeing God of War Ragnarok spoilers. Most of these settings are identical across Sony's different generations of consoles, so it does not matter if you are playing the game on a PlayStation 4, or PlayStation 5; this video is for you! I hope you find this God of War Ragnarok tips and tricks video useful.

Note: After playing Ragnarök a little more, I am conflicted on ‘Setting 2’. Leaving it at default is ultimately the best way to go if you can get used to it; I just struggled considering how much muscle memory I have built up for using circle for dodging. It definitely does come down to preference! :)
Problem I have is. The camera will automatically go up when I'm aiming a d walking. It's really annoying. How do I fix it. I don't remember changing any of the camera settings. So confused and annoyed how this has happened.
@@arianagrandefan934 i think its a problem with your controller its called stick drift
These are really helpful especially auto pickup
@@XaggyBoi thank you for replying. I've sorted it now. I got mixed up. When walking I was using both analogs at the sane time. That's why the cam went up. Now I just use one at a time and it's OK.
@@arianagrandefan934 oh ok cool
My favorite part of Navigation Assist is when presented with two paths. Click R3 to see which leads to the story and then go the other way to get the loot.
Right 😂😂😂
Yes this is such a brilliant use for it! I hate having to take a gamble on which route is the story and which is for collectibles and chests, so it's brilliant that this solves that :D
Oh I never thought of it acessabilty options
This is awesome - had no idea this even existed
Thanks for that
Something to think about on the Pick up setting.... picking up health or rage drops is almost always a stun tactic for surrounding enemies, and can be part of smart gameplay if fully surrounded to pop them manually
I would say the most important setting to change out of the box is your camera movement speed. I go with around 7 or 8. For me, this was near essential for beating the Valkyries on GMGOW 2018. It takes time to get used to that level of swiftness though & felt like I was learning to walk again when I first tuned it up. Get used to it early & when the combat gets serious, you'll be a step ahead.
That quick turn tip is a godsend, thank you!
Super happy it helped you, no problem at all! :D I'll make this style video for future games too so make sure to stick around and subscribe 😊
Setting 12 to use R3 is so helpful. This was also in Last of Us 2. It helps any time there's a diverging path and you aren't sure if one way is the story and the other will let you explore.

A tip for players playing on hard or Give Me God of War, keep the pick up on manual. Smashing a health crystal mid battle will stagger any enemies close around you and give you a moment to breathe.
That's definitely a fair point! Do note that auto pick-up will only really kick in if the enemy isn't actively fighting you at the stone, so you do still have the option to manually pick up, and auto pick up works if there is a good amount of distance between you and the opponent. That said, I do agree with what you are saying; maybe you should consider the economy option?
@@Octoriousscrolls, treasure, and the ilk have a brief animation just like the health and rage stones. There is no reason to have it on anything other than manual. You are just making boss fights way harder. And all of the loot will end up at the shop chest anyway.
It's nice to see that I'm not the only one who constantly tries to dodge with a circle :)
Thank you
These were good tips, I just started playing the game :))
Very good tips! I didn't even realize I was playing without HDR and VRR benefits of my CX oled. I think I set them up previously but they probably got set to default by an update.
I could notice quite clearly some occasional dips in FPS as soon as i turned HRD on though (using performance mode) which wasn't the case before I turned it on but I think it's still worth it and it's far less noticeable than turning on quality mode for instance so it's a good balance
Really appreciate this video I hope it gets the attention it deserves Can't wait to hop on and change some of these thank you so much

Thank you for this video guide.
There's a small one I didn't find for the longest time, but glad I changed it. The default to going bare-handed is the down D-pad button, but since the first game had you hit the same directional button of the weapon to sheathe it (left for Blades, right for Ax), I would recommend changing that setting back to be like the first game.
Man, where did you find it? I hate the new d-pad functionality
How did you do it?
It just swaps the other weapon button mapping automatically.
@@thegreenmage6956 Gameplay > Playstyle > Weapon Sheathing > Weapon Toggle
@@ed6dds Gameplay > Playstyle > Weapn Sheathing > Weapon Toggle
At first I had it like this but eventually you get another weapon that is toggled by hitting down on the Dpad which would make you hit down twice to switch to your fists. I switched it back to sheath on hitting the same weapon button which will instantly put you back into fists mode.
As someone that's legally blind & suffers with glaucoma, I'm ecstatic to see all the accessibility settings provided in GoW for the seeing impaired, this is why I place this game above Elden Ring for GOTY because the devs took the extra steps to not only make a phenomenal game but to also ensure that as many people as possible can play it & enjoy it even if they suffer with disabilities.
It makes me really happy to see how much the accessibility settings are able to help you, and I completely agree, it is incredible how much focus PlayStation Studios specifically put into their accessibility options and it deserves a ton of praise! I hope you enjoy playing the game :)
Both are great games. But judging a game for how accessible it is, is a bit short sighted. Games and movies are made for a specific crowd in mind. To have everyone be able to enjoy every single game made, would severely limit the game's potential. With Dad of boy's combat system, making it more user friendly for just about anyone, is more doable. Trying to do the same for a fromsoft game with the souls engine or games like Ninja Gaiden, would take away more than add to the overall game because of what it's trying to do. There are people playing Elden ring and dark souls with oranges, guitar hero controllers, etc. Both are great but saying one is above the other because it is easier to play, shouldn't be how it's judged. It should be on goal of director and if it was achieved, themes, combat, music, graphics, balance if intended or not, etc. However : the creator of any game should always try to work within their system, for people to be able to enjoy the game as intended as much as possible. That does not mean one has to play a specific way.
you’re a legend my man, keep going and enjoying these great games !
glad u enjoyed the game bro. there is an accessibility award in the games awards u should vote for gow there but regardless it is a GOTY XD.
@@Dravianpn02 are u ok?

The game has been out a year now and My new game plus journey will start shortly this video has really helped me and these settings will keep helping me through my play throughs thanks ❤
Just getting around to playing Ragnarok, and it didn't feel right the buttons, so I looked up this video and now it's amazing and I didn't even know I didn't have VVR turned on, this video has made this experience so far so much better thanks you, I will subscribe as a thanks 😊
Great video really informative
Thanks so much, Cal!
Thanks for the tips. The "dodge/roll" setting helped me out lots. I changed it to a single tap because the software mechanics of this game are brutally slow. Pressing L1 to bring up your shield works only 75% of the time on PS5, I have an 1100 model, and the game developers are well aware of the issue. It's why they're already working on their FOURTH software update. It's no fun playing such a graphically realistic game if you keep getting killed because basic combat control functions DON'T WORK.
Thanks for these great tips, im def going to apply most of these today
Really happy to be able to help you out :) I'll make this style video for future games too so make sure to stick around and subscribe 😊
Thank you for this!
As a Dark souls player I also swapped the dodge to O but I swapped it back to default as I realized it's faster/more convenient for playflow to dodge with X as it's closer to the right joystick which is moving the camera and GoW is a very camera moving focused game even more so than souls games.
Got used to it pretty quickly TBH
Bring on the hate but I say X is arguably the better button for dodge when you get used to it and I can see why they made it default
And now you change dodge in dark souls to x?
@@murray821 In souls I feel circle is fine for dodging. It's way less camera focused and you use circle to run and then jump with X so that would likely become a bit more awkward if they're swapped.
Also resting the thumb on Circle feels more natural than constantly keeping your finger on X but in GoW I'm practically moving the camera pretty much all the time during combat so it makes sense. In Souls games it's more like positioning the camera occasionally
After playing elden ring, circle or B feels really natural when dodging/rolling.
You...monsters hahaha
Ikr. I went on a DS3, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring stretch and it's so awkward rolling with X now.
@@absoluteclutch4585 lol change the keybind
Thanks for this!
My pleasure! I hope you enjoyed it :)
Thanks for the help!
I've died several times tapping the circle button thinking it was the evade button. Just feels so natural it's taking me a while to adjust
Exact same thing was happening to me at the start of my playthrough which is why I thought it was worth mentioning; I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this problem haha
I'm doing the same exact thing. The circle button just seems so natural to evade with.
Same here. Why is it not default?
Actually a few good suggestions, swapped O and X right away, that was really throwing me off, although I kept mixing them up for a bit after that. I don’t like the auto pick up though.

great video, and amazing tip to avoid the spoilers on PS5!
I personally only use auto pick up for the economy since using it for essentials during a fight can stop runic attacks or could prevent evading an attack
Remapping the control makes it better especially how I played in the previous God Of War where they had the Classic setting which was more preferable

You need to know there is a hit to quality if you run high frame rate mode on the quality preset, it’s not huge, but it is noticeable in some areas. My TV supports VRR but the auto motion setting actually does a good job on quality mode without high frame rate, although I still run high frame rate mode because the lagginess without it is too much to handle in combat
Just wanted to mention the settings for when you're idling and traversing real quick as whenever on boat that gave me serious motion sickness (even when set at 1), so if you notice you're getting a headache when travelling, consider that setting!
So which setting did you change? The camera speed movement?
Optional but set the HUD to immersive. It's worth it. Mimir and Atreus will warn you of offscreen attacks
Ooo I must've missed this one! I'll have to give it a try; thanks for sharing! :D
Where is this option please
Nah I like having the hud on turning it off makes me feel like the game is unfinished and ruins the immersion
@@HoustoneMunz I turn it off for more immersion. Yes I do like looking at the UI because it's new and different though.
It's pretty...But has its flaws. Boss fights are tough Without knowing when you can use Renic attacks as well as having no idea what you're picking up.
Very helpful tank you
No problem! Glad it helped :) I'll make this style video for future games too so make sure to stick around and subscribe
The targeting system seems more awkward than in the previous game. So far I’m not feeling it. I also considered that I may have aged out and just trash now too. Yet still, it shouldn’t be this difficult to navigate through battle with multiple opponents.
Yeah, that’s kinda why I’m here. I was hoping there was some way for me to switch targets a lot easier. It’s driving me crazy.
targetting system and quick turn was a downgrade in this game IMO, can't stand needing to press r1 before, and sometimes when rushing buttons it doesn't even work
Thanks so much for this and I have one question can I play with my ps4 friends on my ps5 for wwe2k22?
The settings is overwhelming. Thanks for this video
Really happy to be able to help you out! :) I'll make this style video for future games too so make sure to stick around and subscribe 😊
Good to see that gyro is gaining momentum. I think many more games should have these features. I played Days Gone with gyro and don’t want anything else with shooters or games that require aiming. I notice I automatically tilt the controller when aiming, even if it isn’t supported. Games like cyberpunk isn’t playable for me on console.
Yeah I 100% agree; it's a great feature that the Dualsense pulls off so well too.
Motion sensor aiming can only be fun if you're not playing on "Give me God of War" difficulty... It takes out your reflexes on battle :')
4:32 ... Oh.... Em...Gee
You actually correctly recommended people to try out gyro aiming! I've seen videos similar to this actually tell people to turn it OFF to get a better game experience!
I am so relieved you are on board with this innovation. I consider it one of the greatest interface option ever to come about. It also makes games 4 times as fun (never took to the mouse, and I HATE aim assisted thumb stick aim).
Did you or anyone in the comment have a problem getting into the forbidden sands part of Alfheim, on my ps4, I can literally cannot unlock the entrance gate even after beating the game? Any suggestions?
Best setting for me: always sprint, autosprint :) gow ragnarok is an amazing game, it becomes better as you advance, makes me want to explore everything at 100%
I would personally not have him pick up health automatically as in some fights its handy to have some laying around. be very annoying to accidentally pick them up when your health is already full.
The high frame rate mode also works with 1080p 120hz monitors/tvs
The aiming with controller would be very familiar with BotW players. Great vid!
Yeah, it's great to see how well it has been implemented since BOTW. And thank you, I'm glad you liked it! :D I'll make this style video for future games too so make sure to stick around and subscribe 😊
I was thrilled that you could turn off the hand held camera shake down / off during gameplay. I never minded it during the cut scenes, but it didn't add anything for me other than a headache and less play time on start.
Camera shake is weird on screen, I know they try to simulate head movement, but in real life your eyes adjust to keep the image stable.
The auto pick-up setting is very helpful, especially where health is concerned. When I’m trying to pick up health in the middle of a fight I nearly always get hit whilst pressing the button 😡
Trust me. It is not going to change with auto pick up 😅
Glad you found it helpful :) Like Alex has said though, it doesn't help with the difficulty too much haha, can just be an added layer of convenience.
Full pick-up mode (setting 1) makes the game easier during combat, hence I have it off as would otherwise compromise Give Me God of War mode. Setting Circle to dodge (setting 2) is huge, though.
That's definitely a fair point, and it is definitely going to vary player to player! Do note that auto pick-up will only really kick in if the enemy isn't actively fighting you at the stone, so you do still have the option to manually pick up, and auto pick up works if there is a good amount of distance between you and the opponent. That said, I do agree with what you are saying; maybe you should consider the economy option though so that picking up resources/loot is a little faster, but stones are still always manual?
I'm glad you found the second setting I mentioned of use! :) I had a real tough time getting my brain to use X, as my survival instincts have been built up and configured for circle thanks to pretty much every other game ever haha. Hope there were some other settings you found useful too! Enjoy the game! :D
Wow, the circle Dodge double tap has been bugging me, I haven’t been able to play a lot since I’ve been working overtime, but thank you for this video, I’m going to change these first thing next time I play.
Glad to hear it has helped you! :) I've also hardly played any either; the moment I got the game I played the first half an hour, then was working on this video for the following 25 hours ish, so it's nice to see people are appreciative :) Hope you enjoy the game! :D

Swapping the buttons for evade and interact was the first thing I did. Dodging/evading with X just feels unnatural especially if you play a lot of FromSoftware games.
Glad I wasn't the only one who struggled to get used to it. I do understand why X is used as it is closer to the thumbstick, but when O is dodge in everything else I play, my survival instincts just didn't line up to the controls haha
O for dodge makes so much sense
If you have it, could you do a MW2 settings for ps5? Great video 🔥
Monica studio should of have the option to truly remap the controller buttons. Cause I'm use to using square and triangle to be the focus on attacking easier.
You can set it to classic controls in settings
Can you please guide me, I am playing on ps5 30fps, can you tell me how much I should set the motion blur to?
Is there any option to change the attack from r1 r2
To triangle & square ?
personally i wpuld also recommend changing weapon sheath mode to toggle in the gameplay section
Congratulations on getting this opportunity to get it early!!
Thank you!!
I only find 2 things helpful for me
Thx 💪🏻
I'm glad that some of them were still useful to you :) Better 2 than none! :D
I haven’t played Ragnarok yet, but my favorite setting in the first one was Immersive Mode where it turns off all HUD and bars. You’d think you need them but if you never had them, you won’t miss it. It makes the game feel even more cinematic! Try it!
What about ability cd? Mini bosses and berserkers ( replace for valkyries) are more challenging this game. I think I need those…
You didn't cover what I need most and from browsing the web many suffer from same problems. May map doesn't show undiscovered. I'm in Niflheim on a game plus and nothing is showing up.
auto pick-up of essentials, auto jumping over obstacles and qte holds rather than button mashing are the best if your hands hurt easily
Definitely! :)
hi i have a question just out of curiosity🤔🙂
is it possible to get the nornir chest in temple of light or the other nornir chests in alfheim later if you missed or dident manage to get them during the story mission in Alfheim🤔🤔🤔🙂?
Honestly, not too sure; I haven't got that far yet.
That said, I am 99% sure Cory Barlog confirmed a week or so back (or maybe a different Santa Monica employee) that there aren't any missable trophies, so I imagine you'd be able to go back and get it later if it was of importance. :)
@@Octorious ok ty for info
Heyappreciate the video, i have a 60hz tv with a 2.1 HDMI, when i play in Favors performance mode with HFR enabled, the screen tends to tear, could you please guide about it??
I am playing with HDR off, but wanted to leverage the 2.1 HDMI cable which allows HFR since my screen doesn't allow VRR.
TIA!
Hey, sorry to hear you are having issues. What TV model is it and is it DEFINITELY a HDMI 2.1 cable?
My personal thoughts on this are honestly that you just shouldn't bother with HFR. If you play in performance mode, you should be playing at pretty much a constant 60FPS anyway which is the maximum your TV is capable of, so there will be no real benefits if you do enable HFR. If the TV is being pushed beyond it's max refresh rate, that might be what is causing screen tearing, though having VRR would of course stop this. Infact, HFR will have a small impact on visual fidelity, and seen as you won't really see the performance gains if you are already in performance mode, keep it off.
Thanks🗣️
its helpful 👍
Happy to hear it! :D I'll make this style video for future games too so make sure to stick around and subscribe 😊
Strongly disagree with the first one, I leave that one off. I don't want that to happen during a fight where I want to run to a spot and suddenly Kratos pauses to pick something up.
First one is a terrible idea (unless you're playing on easy). You have to be able to decide when to pick up health and rage at strategic moments if you're playing on normal or higher.
I physically couldn’t play GoW 2018 until I realised you could map dodge to O. Whoever made the decision to make it X by default is absolutely insane.
Dodge should always be O
Its the law! 🤬
Haha yes I was the same. I understand why though; X is closer to the right stick than circle, so is easier to press whilst giving the game an input for a direction to move with the camera. That said, Spider-Man, and every other game ever has our games trained to use O. Glad it helped you :)
Definitely don't recommend auto pick up for health and rage. I deliberately leave some health stones on the ground that I can come to later on if needed. Sometimes you miss just a sliver of health and waste a health stone if it's auto picked. Maybe turn it on for bosses but otherwise I leave it off.
That's a fair point! :) Maybe you should use the Economy option then :D
These are all fantastic tips but there were 3 that I've been using that I would like to add.
1. Puzzle Timing Extended: gives you more time to hit the 3 Symbol Bells to open the chest so you're not rushing.
2. High Contrast Preset: Collector Mode. This allows you to view all the hidden treasure chest and items in every area are so you don't miss anything it's really helpful when you're trying to stock up and can't find all the items or where the next door/clif you're supposed to go is. Basically you will never get confused where the next place to go is
3. Evade Assist: This makes it so when you evade, you won't take any damage which is how it should be IMO, that's the point of evading lol. Also by holding down the evade button you can continuously evade instead of just doing it once
Holy we have a Evade Assist??? I just was sweating my ass off with these berserker’s insanely huge hitbox, like 4 of them in a row last night and now you saying we don’t take dmg when evading?..
Does collector mode deactivate trophies?
@@TheBeeaarrJew No u still get Trophies. Nothing else changes
So evade assist will be kind of like Bloodborne?
@@brando3424 I guess so, I haven't played Bloodborne yet so I'm not sure 😅
Navigation assist is the best thing they added to this game. It should be in all games!
Has anyone seen what happens when you place a copy of GOW in the series x? If you do this. You’re prompted with a screen showing a chibi kratos killing master chief. Above it reads that this system is unrecognizable please put disk into a ps5
When I quit the game, no sound in my PS5 menu and in other games. Any suggestions...? :( When I turn off the High Frame Rate Mode, no sound in the GOW Ragnarok as well.
Is their a setting where I can change the skin tone of Angrboda??
Is there a way to map quick turn to L⬇️ + X? ( holding down on the Left Analog stick and pressing X)
no, no way to change quick turn beside pressing r3 :( imo it sucks now
Sewiously good weview
Thanks for the vid! I didn't know they had gyro aiming which is awesome because that's what I use for fortnite. I'm so glad botw popularised the usage of gyro aiming. It really is fantastic when implemented well
Yes it's definitely good to see more games implementing it! :) And no worries, I really enjoyed making it! :D I'll make this style video for future games too so make sure to stick around and subscribe 😊
I have a ps4 and under my settings I cannot access graphics mode. It just skips over it. I cannot pass the dragon hunts quest without changing it.
Not sure what’s going on. HD 4K tv playing with the 2.0 HDMI chord and the game still feels sluggish/choppy on my ps5. It’s just very frustrating
I guess auto pickup for life and rage drop offs are not good to be honest... We all know that sometimes you will have a big fight in the same spot later in the game, so if you simply do not pick up at first, you will have an extra resource later on. Of course you can say that you simply just do not run into the drop off to not getting it automatically, but sometimes you are fighting and simply pass over it, so I believe it is better to leave it as it is :)
HFR-mode should be available as long as you have a 120hz display, VRR isn't needed I believe. However, it's recommended to have VRR if you use HFR in Perf. mode since the unlocked and always-changing frame rate introduces judder without VRR.
Yes you are correct, sorry for any confusion I may have caused :)
My tv has 4k 60fps or 1080p 120hz, it also has vrr. can i get 4k 40fps?
@@gtavshortclips4740 Unfortunately no. It's required to have a 4k@120hz capable TV in order to use the HFR-mode, which enables the 4k@40hz mode.
Very useful video, why is my game screen not the full TV,? How can i fix that
Really happy to hear it helped! :)
Regarding the full screen issue, go to GOW's graphics settings, then screen calibration and make sure the corners are set to the correct value there. Failing this, go to your PS5's display settings and adjust the screen size, again to make sure the corners fit the TV.
Good tips but I always go for graphics over frame rate. Frame rate is such an over exaggerated thing. It’s fine at 30 - 40.
What settings do i change on my Xbox ? It keeps ejecting the disc.
