Hi just wanted to let you know a plague tale requiem has got a new update that improves performance mainly on ps5 I've noticed a decent improvement in some areas before it would drop down to like 27 fps on ps5 in this one chapter called new comers, gladiators but I can only play at that 30 fps mode so could you pls check how it performs in the 40 fps mode with this new update in that area I'd really appreciate it
Well VRR is useless when the game is locked to 40 fps. Also in unlocked 40fps, (HFR enabled), the game output about 42-45fps. But VRR only works from 48-120fps on PS5. We need a PS5 PRO or get a release on PC of this game to go higher than 40fps in 4k. Unlikely that happens for at least a year or two.
Anyone who prefers quality mode or higher resolution doesn't understand that the game only looks better when standing still. In motion, 99% of games will look better in performance modes(60fps+) so if you have trouble picking, always go for higher frames over resolution for the best experience IMO.
Or just let people play the game the way they want. I always play on performance since I personally prefer better fps but I also don’t give a shit what anyone else uses and neither should you.
That's not how It works. While moving the blur makes It more cinematic for most people. And the drop from 2160p to 1440p is pretty noticeable on a 4k TV
@@ThePipojp that is exactly how it works High resolution doesnt matter if you have low frame rates As soon as you move around the picture looks far worse Thats because of the low frame rates
Exactly. To me Quality mode is unplayble; on motion it looks just terrible and hurt my eyes. I don't even understand people who prefer Quality mode over Performance. There's barely no difference in graphics between tho modes even without motion, but higher fps makes the gameplay so much better and smoother.
I’m currently playing the quality mode 40fps with vrr and I’m not having any issues whatsoever , it’s playing really smooth and I’m getting all that graphical goodness 😍
I'm using the default performance mode with HFR turned off, despite having a 120 Hz display. I feel the HFR mode is compromising on resolution a bit too much and it's also forcing HDR in YUV420 format instead of RGB.
Samsung has a handy feature in Game Mode that always saves me the hassle. I play at locked 60 (with HFR and VRR off) but turn the BLUR Reduction (not Judder) in Game Motion Plus on my TV right the way up to 10. Blur Reduction is for 60 fps content, no artefacts or noticeable lag when using 60-120 Hz interpolation, so it plays like a perfectly locked 120 fps game. I’ve found it’s a better solution than using HFR/VRR in pretty much all 60 fps games, as the frame rate never fluctuates, as long as you have a stable 60 fps. Image is completely stable and crystal clear.
damn this is what I'm talking about. I have an LG c1 OLED and 60 fps I can see the frames. The solution is turning on motion pro high bfi but it flickers too much and dims the screen. Or bfi medium and turning motion interpolation to de blur 10, perfect motion clarity but the input lag is 80 Ms+. I heard the Samsung have somehow inputted interpolation in game mode with 20 ms input lag. Could just be an OLED issue. Which do one do you have? Don't want to buy another tv that I'm not 100% sure on. Wish I could test for comparison.
@@beammeupscottsp7952 Mine’s a Q6FN, a 2018 model, so not top of the line or anything. I think the first model with Game Motion Plus was the NU8000 or something, so I figure any half decent model past that will have it. Can definitely vouch for the input lag being a non issue while using it, it’s apparently around 18ms or something but to me that’s as good as 0 cos I don’t notice that at all. I do actually use the Judder Reduction to interpolate 30 fps games to 60 sometimes, depending on the game. The only drawback using it on 30 fps games is the slight artefacts around your character if the camera moves fast, but they’re only visible in certain conditions so some games get away with it. Particularly visible in light scenes, lots of vegetation, etc. In some games where the camera doesn’t move very fast though (eg. Callisto Protocol) I’ve found it’s not an issue at all, as the tv can keep up I guess. You can also mitigate it in certain games by slowing the camera X axis down slightly. Probably not for everyone, so not saying go out and buy a TV for the feature alone, but I do enjoy having the option and feel very glad I bought this telly when I play a game that needs a little boost or that has a Quality mode that’s too good to pass up.
@@davelutherable That's awesome. I really want to try this out, with OLED being so fast I see frames even with 60 fps on console, play a lot of single players titles. 120 it's perfect, bfi on high makes for perfect motion clarity but I see the strobing and a case of headaches. 20 ms is crazy low for this feature, no other tv brand offers this without taking a huge input lag hit. Is your tv an OLED? Wondering if that really is the issue for 60 fps on OLED.
@@beammeupscottsp7952 Yeah mine’s a QLED so that might be the issue, different technology. Fortunately for me I have nothing to compare it to lol, I’ve never actually even seen an OLED in the flesh. But I do love the picture of my set, perfect black level and the same peak brightness as a C1, though I’m sure it probably doesn’t compare to individually lit pixels. Mine’s quite dated and was always a mid range TV though, so I’d imagine with the superior Samsung QLEDs, with 1500-2000 nits peak brightness etc, you probably find yourself in best of both worlds territory. Having Game Motion Plus and a super high peak brightness would definitely be a good reason to try a decent Samsung, imo. I’ll probably always go with them on future upgrades myself, just for GMP cos I use it all the time.
Hello. 1st commentary on your channel. Im a french user of on "hold" LG C8, and any game of the ps5 i fovor the 60fps mode... since i played on my first game of the ps5 (miles morales), i cant replay in 30fps.... my tv doesnt support vrr but the game is already super in performance mode
Have you noticed the audio / bass is really lackluster? I don’t feel that loudness or punch anymore. When I play 2018 game it is such a difference. Simple effects like axe throwing, slams, chains or opening chests just sound weak now.
As much the 40fps on Ratchet & Clank was great, but on GoW this is not the same at all. We feel it much less fluid oddly, and the difference with the 60fps+ (between 75 and 90fps constant) is really felt.
Was the same for me. I mostly game on a beefy PC at 144 hz, so 40 fps feels so slow to me. Like the game is running through molasses. I've been playing on 4k hdr vrr performance mode and it's been great.
Didn't you find the dwarf village a little choppy on the 60 fps mode? game was missing some frames here and there, and with the HFM i wasn't noticing them... i do still use the 60fps anyways
Did you notice any visual differences with resolution between locked 60FPS and the unlocked 60 FPS with VRR mode? If not, ill be definitey picking the unlocked 60 FPS with VRR- Thanks
Locked 60 FPS is better for me. Higher resolution. Better chroma 4:4:4 RGB, colours are more vibrant and deeper. With unlocked 60 FPS you get more FPS, better smooth expierience, lower input lag. For me is not worth it. PS5 have limitations to 32gbps on HDMI 2.1. Maybe they fix it in update in future, or on pro version. For now you must chose what is better to you.
I have a gigabyte m32uc 4k 144hz gaming monitor and I sometimes plug in the ps5 to it. I favor performance over picture quality but with the monitor I can play 4k at performance as it has amd freesync premium with allm and vrr, and I do get anywhere from 70-120fps on gowr but it's stables out around 90fps according to the refresh rate displaying on the monitor
There's no difference in locked 60 and unlocked 60 graphics wise they both run at 1440p. The higher frame rate with vrr and allm makes it a lot more of a smoother experience.
I noticed that with unlocked 60 fps vrr that rgb full doesn't work as it goes back to limited. This was on a C2 btw but yeah. There was also a reddit post speaking about this & that may be related to the PS5 & a bandwidth limitation
i tried doing the hfr vrr graphics mode since i liked it on spiderman 2. but then i realized gow is very combat heavy and switched to hfr vrr performance. best option out there
U can really get away with the lower resolution modes cuz the TAAU upscaling in this game works so much better than the checkerboard rendering in the previous game.
Only things you would be able to see more - gaps ... no, sorry, scrap that, CHASMS between frames. 30 fps without motion blur on OLED is a vomit-inducing stutter fest
I prefer the locked 60fps mode since the colour and contrast seem to be a lot better.. I noticed when I switched to unlock.. the colour and contrast seemed off and I care more about that then resolution
Wow, you all right. So this shitty VRR is just marketing. In VRR we have only more FPS and better smooth expierience, but we lost better colour/contrast, resolution is lower too. For me only way is locked 60FPS. Holly shit i know it something is wrong, i need to check other games.
@@maciej5806 It's not marketing, its Sonys fault they inclued only 32 gbps HDMI instead of 40gbs as they have in XBOX SERIES X. Actually if you were to play GOW RAGNAROK on series X with HFR + VRR mode you would get 444RGB instead of YCBCR 422 (which degrades colors and contrast). Many peoaple dont notice this aspect but to me switching to 120hz mode on PS5 is actually making the HDMI to output in YCBCR 422 (YUV) which has worse colors than RGB 444
Do you think the performance mode+120hz+vrr is worth it for tvs that have resolution halved problems? i will just see a blurrier picture for just 10 fps.
No. Even on CX i stick to 60 fps locked. Sadly PS5 doesn't support RGB output at 4k 120 on any TV so unless there is a stable 120 mode or at least 90+ , I'm not interested in 120 Hz output from ps5
Honestly I would never pick resolution over performance in any game.. favor performance with High frame rates and VRR on LG C1 is ridiculously buttery smooth that it improves combat and feels more responsive, since youre constantly moving you cant tellxthe graphics take a hit..
Isn't showing "frame times" for VRR misleading here? Your capture/analyze device probably treats it as a fixed 60/120hz container, and frame time is kinda "rounded" to the closest discrete time interval, so someone might decide that game has serious judder issues, if they take this frametime plot at a face value. Same goes for fixed 40 fps. It seems like your analyzer treated it like an 60hz container with 1:2 pulldown, which would also be a horrible judder, while in reality it runs in 120hz container with a constant 3 refreshes per frame. Other than that great video! You're the first person I found to show what VRR range to expect from unlocked 40fps.
Yeah frametimes are not correct as you mentioned. I tried a lot but I can't get it right. FPS are correct I am sure. If you have some advice let me know. I am using trdrops for analysing. Thanks
Yeah I was gonna comment on that as well, the frame time graph for fixed 40 fps looks like hot garbage but good to hear it's an artifact of the frame time plot itself rather than the game having terrible frame pacing.
To each their own, hence all the options, but I don't know how you pick 30fps over 80fps, I sit like 6 or 7 feet away from my 65" LG C2 and at 1440p i can't see a single pixel/staircase effect from the lower resolution and it runs smooth as butter
I’m playing the game in native 4K, i can’t tell if it’s running at 30 or 60 that’s how smooth it looks. I’m playin on the PS5 with a TCL 6 series 65in TV.
Quality + HFR + VRR causes flickers and screen burn in on my TV, plenty of users are reporting this issue. At first I thought my TV was broken, turns out it was the game. I had to turn off VRR on the ps5 with Quality + HFR for the TV not to flicker. Performance + HFR + VRR works fine for me, but unfortunately some people are reporting issues with this mode as well. I have reported it to the studio as suggested by a Reddit user, please report if you have this issue.
Only reason I'm playing in fixed 60fps on my LG C1 is because I like to record on ps5 in 4k hdr and upload to youtube When vrr is on on ps5 it will only record upto 1080p with no hdr yet sometimes will have hdr (sony need to update this) but after I finish the game I will play again in the high mode with VRR
I just got a ps5 for Christmas and I'm using the HDMI Cable that comes included with the ps5. Will I need to get a better HDMI cable in order to use higher quality like 1440p and 2160p. I only ask because when I went on the settings and pressed on the higher resolutions that are not available, it said "your HDMI cable does not support these settings"
Do you have any color problems with either mode using your settings on cx with HFR +VRR? And using hgig, hdmi input pc mode. My color is not so colorful for some reason...
Its not your fault, its consoles limitation to 32 gbps bandwith for HDMI in 120hz mode. Your console can only output YUV 422 in 120hz mode (if you turn HFR ON in GOW). Keep it OFF if you want better contrast + colors since it outputs in FULL RGB
I disabled VRR to play A Plague Tale so it capped at 30fps. VRR does nothing at that range on PS5, so it causes more issues than anything. Edit: I guess games can have low framerate compensation so VRR does have an impact at lower ranges, but unsure if all games do.
I start on my sony oled a84j in 4k 40 fps unlock with VRR! Then we see maybe i change to 60 fps mode because 120hz perf mode is 1440p scaled to 4k for me 60 fps is fine not need more fps!
@@reymisterio1386 I agree. The whole point of choosing the right setting is to be immersed. Constantly having to switch would take me out of the experience. And the gain would be minimal.
My cx picture settings don’t change, I use the sliders to change brightness from 0 to 100 and nothing happens, same with white balance medium to warm 2. Is this a common bug?
There is a bug with the 40fps vrr mode when you talk to sindri or broke to buy something, the game gets stuck at 30fps. You have to save and quit to get back to 40fps.
I am switching between 40 fps 120 Hz and 60 fps 120 Hz modes with VRR enabled. I prefer the latter on my LG B9 as the 40 fps mode doesn't look smooth. Like you said, it's better than 30 fps but OLEDs don't tend to display framerates below 60 fps due to their near-instanteous pixel response times.
Probably stick with locked 60fps because I can't deal with the chroma 4:2:2 with vrr on. Some people say they can't tell but I can. Wish sony would patch in 40gbs on hdmi 2.1.
@@GamingTech-CZcams same problem, on philips OLED707 locked 60fps off VRR with 4:4:4 RGB looks more deep and colourfull than unlocked FPS VRR on with 4:2:2 YUV. For me extra 10-30 FPS is not worth it. It’s look like VRR on PS5 is just no more like marketing, maybe they fix it on PS5 pro model in future.

@@ThePipojp that is exactly how it works
High resolution doesnt matter if you have low frame rates
As soon as you move around the picture looks far worse
Thats because of the low frame rates

Exactly.
To me Quality mode is unplayble; on motion it looks just terrible and hurt my eyes.
I don't even understand people who prefer Quality mode over Performance.
There's barely no difference in graphics between tho modes even without motion, but higher fps makes the gameplay so much better and smoother.
I was waiting for you to say: "Ay Brother."
GamingTech remains an enigma. One moment it’s “Mowdey” the next it’s “Mode”.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Hey just a quick question can you please tell me what do you have your motion blur and film grain set on ?
I’m currently playing the quality mode 40fps with vrr and I’m not having any issues whatsoever , it’s playing really smooth and I’m getting all that graphical goodness 😍
I'm using the default performance mode with HFR turned off, despite having a 120 Hz display.
I feel the HFR mode is compromising on resolution a bit too much and it's also forcing HDR in YUV420 format instead of RGB.
Exactly
Yes 60fps performance is best mode to play HFR off you get only 20 more fps but you locked in 2k
It shouldn't be forcing YUV420 it should be YUV422
Hey side note, you should take a look at Control Ultimate Edition, there’s HDR support and it’s amazing.
I stuck between those modes.thank u for ur recomendation i will go for unlocked 60 vrr on my C2
Agreed, performance 60 with high framerate mode is the best .
120 with VRR support.
I play with the Quality mode with HFR and VRR. 40fps is enough for me for a smooth gameplay.
Have you noticed the audio / bass is really lackluster? I don’t feel that loudness or punch anymore. When I play 2018 game it is such a difference. Simple effects like axe throwing, slams, chains or opening chests just sound weak now.
I have an Acer pc monitor for my new ps5 finally btw lol luv ur vids... how can i check if u know my best Acer setup??
LG C2 40fps +VRR. I’m happy with it.
best mode is the performance mode + hfr+vrr
70-90 fps has the best and clearest picture quality in motion
As much the 40fps on Ratchet & Clank was great, but on GoW this is not the same at all. We feel it much less fluid oddly, and the difference with the 60fps+ (between 75 and 90fps constant) is really felt.
Was the same for me. I mostly game on a beefy PC at 144 hz, so 40 fps feels so slow to me. Like the game is running through molasses. I've been playing on 4k hdr vrr performance mode and it's been great.
What do you recommend on the Lg CX?
Unlocked 60fps + VRR i guess ?!
Thanks for your information
Performance mode with HFR OFF and VRR ON. You get washed colors with HFR ON cuz of YUV 422 output instead of FULL RGB
I’m currently playing it GoW on my C2 but I like the liked the locked 60 FPS a little bit better cuz of the slightly higher resolution.
Didn't you find the dwarf village a little choppy on the 60 fps mode? game was missing some frames here and there, and with the HFM i wasn't noticing them...

Locked 60 FPS is better for me.
Higher resolution.
Better chroma 4:4:4 RGB, colours are more vibrant and deeper.
With unlocked 60 FPS you get more FPS, better smooth expierience, lower input lag. For me is not worth it.

I’m staying at the locked 60 performance mode. The loss in visual fidelity that the 120 FPS mode brings is not worth it in my opinion.
thats the HFR off and performance on setting right?

There's no difference in locked 60 and unlocked 60 graphics wise they both run at 1440p. The higher frame rate with vrr and allm makes it a lot more of a smoother experience.
And there is hdr.
I noticed that with unlocked 60 fps vrr that rgb full doesn't work as it goes back to limited. This was on a C2 btw but yeah.
There was also a reddit post speaking about this & that may be related to the PS5 & a bandwidth limitation

That’s because it drops back to 422YUV rather than 444 RGB. It’s super noticeable in my opinion . Blows my mind some folks don’t see this
Exactly bro, I tried playing the 40hz quality version but the colour degrade looks so bad
