  • Hi guys. I'm sorry that I've kept this from you for so long but the re-films of crappy ones and re-uploads with better music has thrown the schedule out of the window and I couldn't put this one up until that 127 one was re-filmed and uploaded. Yep, this is my favourite run into Leicester, the X84 back to Leicester from Rugby. Boy, was I in for a treat.
    The brilliant diversion is due to the fact that I timed it so that in this direction, I got an alternating journey that serves the small village of Newton instead of Magna Park, however, the only road through it was closed at the time so they couldn't serve it so we just went straight to the A5. The views were spectacular but sadly it meant going under the M6 whereas whether it's after Newton or junction 1, they always go over it.
    Experiences: I had never caught this route (because it was only introduced in April 2017) or any of its previous forms, so not the old 50A, 140, X40 or X44.
    How I felt: I was more worried in this visual about running out of battery and as the bus was just a Volvo B7TL, I brought my portable charger. I did this for the Skylink (which I never ended up needing because the bus going had one next to my seat), the 158 as well as when I did the 14, 38 and 74 to ensure they were all done on the day. The 29 was the biggest challenge because that takes over 2 hours to complete each way, whereas this route is the 2nd longest, taking just under that.
    Other than, this route is spectacular because it runs out of Leicestershire (something double-deckers never did here before because of low bridges), has a brilliant mixture of narrow country lanes (like the diversion here, and between Broughton Astley and Lutterworth) and dual-carriageways. This particular route soars down the A5 and skips Braunstone Town (the service road that the 50 uses, this one goes down the main dual-carriageway). It would have brilliant if they'd created this sooner so the Lowlanders could have go, but oh well.

    I know I decided to go with a policy of no using songs for more than one visual but nothing suited the final push of this fast run better than this song so I've made an exception, and it's my favourite non-copyright song of all time, hence why it's the one for my intro.

    Both Hinckley and Thurmaston operate this.

    God this is old. I spotted 35174, which as we know has been destroyed by crashing into a bridge. Any news on what’s happening with that? Is it being replaced, is it coming back or what

      Ik but I thought that was why the B9TL from Leeds came down.

      I’d imagine we’ll only find out when more of the Metros are gone. Speaking of which, 66305 and 66309 have started to be stripped.

    Does the X84 still use double deckers? I'm doing X84 next weekend but looking on bustimes it appears to have been downgraded to E200MMC & Pulsar 2 single deckers...

    • @leicestertravels4705
      @leicestertravels4705  Před 9 měsíci

      I think they have stopped using deckers, as the last few weeks have seen all of Hinckley’s on the 158. Maybe you could do that instead since I never got to from one.
      Probably low trees on the route. The 153 and X3 have had the same treatment.

      @@leicestertravels4705 How funny - I'm doing the 158 after the X84! And I'm also planning do to NX Coventry routes 20 and 25/85, wonder if you've done these ones too

      @gabrielstravels-discoverin7368 I haven’t done any NX Coventry routes, and since my visualling days are long over, I probably never will.
      When I was doing visuals, NX Coventry never reached Nuneaton or Rugby. The 20 didn’t go that far yet, while the 85 was still the 585 with De Courcey.

      @@leicestertravels4705 Although I'm not doing them this weekend (but still have plans to do them eventually), do the 5/5A, 29 and 127 still use double deckers?
      Ah yes, I remember the 20 Nuneaton extension being fairly recent. My guess is that it was designed to give some competition to Stagecoach's 148 (previously 48C back then)

      @@gabrielstravels The 5/5A and the 127 yes, while the 29/29A get some (usually the remaining YX16 MMCs, but they’re leaving soon). It’ll be interesting to see how the 127’s changed with the new entrance into Rothley. I haven’t even drove there for ages. I never bothered with the 29 again after Arriva decided against reinstating it to Burton, but I know the route in Ashby’s changed a bit since I did it.

    Out of interest, I remember when a similar route used to run under the number x44, do you know why that changed?

    • @leicestertravels4705
      @leicestertravels4705  Před 2 lety +1

      The X44 is pretty much the same as this route, the main difference that it went via Littlethorpe and Cosby. It was diverted to Huncote and Croft to replace another service, the 50A. It also went straight to Rugby from Lutterworth via Cotesbach, rather than around Magna Park.

      @@leicestertravels4705ah right, that also explains why the 50A seemed to just pop out of existence one day 😂
