*VERY NICE* Ride on First South Yorkshire 30577 - WU02 KVV - Alexander ALX400 - Shuttle Run
If this hadn’t gone out at the same time, my video of 69154 could have been longer, but if I’d stayed on it, I wouldn’t have got this incredible looking vehicle.
This is 30577, or 2717 as it technically is once again, one of 15 B7TL ALX400s that were new to Sheffield/Rotherham during the summer of 2002. These were actually originally planned for Bristol, but due to double-decker shortages in Sheffield, Volvo B7Ls 66349-66356 were sent down instead.
Most of the WU02s spent their whole careers in South Yorkshire, though one or two did move to Cornwall for the final year. After spending 14 years serving Rotherham and Sheffield, 30577 moved over to Doncaster in 2016, and a repaint into the Olympia livery followed in 2019. She was officially retired from service on January 9, 2021, likely as a result of service reductions due to yet another COVID-19 lockdown. Following retirement, she was added to the SYTT’s collection, and rather than being restored to original condition, she has a received a what-could-have-been-type repaint in the form of the Mainline livery, and it looks incredible. I’ve always wondered what a Leicester one would look like in the CityBus livery, and what one of Arriva’s Lowlanders would look like in the Midland Fox livery. Her original number of 2717 has also been restored.
At the time this video is being uploaded, the SYTT have just preserved 66351. They also own B7TL Gemini 31787.
Not as good as 32059 when it got that new turbo, but you have to remember she is Euro 3, not Euro 2, and the windows all having to be open due to the heat didn’t help either. Still, another ALX400 that had been on my list for quite some time has now been ticked off.

I honestly do not know what has happened. For unknown reasons, Lutterworth Road has been gridlocked, with it taking 30 minutes just to get from Wigston Lane to Blaby Shopping Centre. They certainly have picked a great example to preserve, I’m with you on that! Also, thank you for the history lesson on their service life - very helpful for an alternative history project I’m interested in working on! And can those veg shut up? They should have respect for those wanting to film like they’d expect when they want to take photos…
I was thinking the exact same thing as I was filming. Still, at least they weren’t as bad as those disrespectful assholes I was on 3606 with a while back. I’ll probably refilm this on a longer stretch if an opportunity arises anyway. I’m actually working on a history project myself with buses from this era, mainly looking into original allocations.

Yeah, the FL63s were the best round here. I don’t think I’m ever going to forgive them for swapping 3770-3777 for 3137-3144.

I cannnot believe you can get a bus from Derby or Leicster to Donington Park right to the entrance and no-one seemingly knows about it, judging by how much the circuit clogs the local roads with traffic for the big race meetings or particularly download... I mean, don't tell any racing fans, I want this to myself tbf, but still, door to door service is a rareity in the racetrack world, so kudos to this operator for including it.
Was this yesterday? I had 4576 last night on the 85 and the driver was absolutely tanking it, I nearly fell down the stairs while getting off he was so quick, I must've had the same driver.

@@leicestertravels4705 With how long they used their Plaxton Presidents and ALX400s is much better than what First and Arriva could do even without their vehicles falling apart like our DB250s.

I didn’t think back then they’d be lasting this long. It’s just a pity the Olympians didn’t stay until 2016 and the Lowlanders until 2020.
