    Great suggestion. I also use Ephemeris for figuring out where the Sun is when, and when blue and golden hours are for my location. What I like about this with respect to other apps is that it’s relatively simple.

    Wow absolutely great video. I’m in Sevilla at the moment and for some reason left both my 5x4 Horseman 45FA behind and the 6x6 120 back plus a medium format point and shoot which I not going to mention because everyone is going to want this camera soon. I like to use with it. Your video makes me realize just how stupid that decision was it was crazily inspiring.
    The drama of having to sacrifice your color roll for the spool was insane but actually was a great dramatic lead into the video. You’ve gained a new subscriber

      Thanks! You can take you 5x4 next time! (Yes it was sad to sacrifice film but I can use it as a practice roll to test film backs/ cameras etc so it won't be wasted)(test transport rather than exposure!) Have a good trip!

    Full of stuff Matt, a great video. I also took off the rangefinder of my MPP and it does make a difference not only in weight but for compacting the kit even more. And yes you take longer to make a photograph but eventually your mind and heart rate will slow to be in sync and then all is slow photography calm😊

    Two weeks ago I was too in the Budapest, but because it was a work trip all film gear I took with me was an Olympus OM1n loaded with FP4, with 24 and 50mm lenses all packed in a really, really small belt bag, and the only app that I needed was a light meter one, cause I've used 1,5V battery instead a 1,35V proprietary one, so my on-board light meter behaves wonky sometimes. I still have to develop that film do...

    Unless people see a well developed , scanned ( drum scanned ) and exceuted 4X5 negative and just see how much information it contains, they would not believe that film is still suprior to anything digital has to offer, much slower execution though. Dark slide jamming is usually the result of film not sitting flush against the flap of the film holder. One way to help this not happening, is to tap the holder to get the film to sit flush. In most cases you do not need to remove the dark slide out of teh holder, particularly in the studio. Just pull it up until it clears the film rebates, this way you can just push it back in without fuss.

    Enjoyed the video. Even though you seem to be a fan of cityscapes do you ever think about doing landscapes such as Yellowstone National Park? The region offers a lot to explore...I call it the GYB (Greater Yellowstone Biosphere)..(Yellowstone, Teton NP,Bear Tooth,Island Park). You might want to consider visiting.

  • @Dahrenhorst
    @Dahrenhorst Před 4 měsíci +1

    If you like this kind of camera but want to have it lighter and smaller, you might try one of the pre-war folders from Voigtländer (Avus, Bergheil) or ICA (Ideal, Favorit) or some other brands (e.g. Glunz, Ernemann, Ihagee, Zeiss Ikon, etc) made from wood. Very capable cameras which can produce sharp b&w pictures, but because of uncoated lenses are bit tricky for color film. I've sold my Technica years ago and use an ICA Ideal since then and never looked back. There are also 120 film backs available for some of these old cameras.

    I can recommend using the Fuji GW690III 6x9 camera instead of using a 4x5" large format camera. It's much easier to transport and use. The image quality is great (not a big difference between 4x5 and 6x9 in my opinion). And it's also called "Texas Leica" for a reason because it can be used like a Leica M.

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks Stefan, yes true 6x9 cameras certainly make more sense, I have a tiny 6x9 folder, but I love the process of the 4x5 and especially being able to mount lots of super cool lenses (not yet shown)

    • @lensaero
      @lensaero Před 3 měsíci

      Good camera but fixed lens, the 4x5 may be bigger/heavier but so many lens options and film formats can make it worth the extra hassle.

    • @stefan_becker
      @stefan_becker Před 3 měsíci

      @@lensaero For 80% of the subjects (like portrait, landscape) I'd say a Fuji GW 690III is a more reasonable choice. For 20% (like architecture with tilt/shift) 4x5" is the better choice.

    • @lensaero
      @lensaero Před 3 měsíci

      @@stefan_becker Hi Stefan, it is of course personal preference and the Fuji is a great camera. However I sold my 690iii as I found it a bit limiting so then wanted the GW version as well - which of course takes up more room!
      I replaced it with a Linhof 612, a little bigger than the Fuji of course but a format I prefer, interchangeable lenses and can be shot handheld easily. Paired with my Mamiya 6 or 7 I find they make an excellent travelling pair that easily fit in a small backpack.

    Hi Matt, do you transport your film from the U.K. and have it hand scanned or do you buy your film stock in the country you’re in and have a process there before you fly back.

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I think it would be interesting, I have read a lot about taking film though airport scanners. that it’s ok for iso,s below 800, but can cause fogging on some films. It would be good to get a insight from somebody who regularly flies with film.
