- Make perfect dowel rods from square stock. Using this jig does not require near round stock. I am now working on a variable diameter dowel maker that I will post once it is perfected.

I really appreciate the critical details that you go over in your videos, the details that make a project a success or failure thank you.😁🛫
I found your video BECAUSE I was about to buy Rob Cosman's kit and I thought "what if I'm terrible at making dowels?". Your method is utter genius. Much appreciated for sharing!
Great ideas to make improvements on the jig.
I have Rob's kit as well, but have struggled making good dowels consistently. Interesting tweak in the jig. I will definitely give it a shot.
You’re the best guy ever!!!!!!
Great work - a piece of wood with a hole slightly larger than the dowel 10cm from the exit to guide the dowel will cancel out much of the wobble and limit the need for sanding. Some use a pipe or more supports for extra long dowels. If you wan't a more permanent setup replace the clamp with a bolt and some washers, remember to make room so the plane blade still can be adjusted. For the tapped hole I start with a 6.5 mm hole and use a 8 mm tap, this fit a 8 mm bolt 40-50 mm long and give good holddown force.
Thanks. Out or curiosity to a guy who obviously is seasoned in making dowel rods, did this video give you any useful tips?
I been trying these for arrows hit and miss
May try this tomorrow
Nice jig!
Hi there. This is a great solution to dowel cutting. Did you ever work out a variable diameter model?
How precise are you able to achieve with the dowel diameter?
GREAT idea! What type of hinges did you use on the fold up extension on your tablesaw out feed table/ plywood cut station?
Made by Knape and Voght.
Thanks !
How can this work? I dont get it. If both holes (straight and stepped) are being drilled with an angle, how is that any different so drilling without an angle table? If I get the idea right, is that you basically want the stepped bit bein parallel to the opening and guiding straight into the final hole. But drilling both on an angle table wont change the angle from stepped to straight bit. Maybe I am too dumb.
The plane blade isn't angled, so it's positioned to just take a shaving off the entire way through the jig.
How are you so good 😊
I am having trouble with the square stock getting stuck on each "step" of the step bit. Am I missing something?
Sorry for the late reply. Maybe your step bit has too big of a diameter drop between sizes. That’s my best guess as I have not had this problem with my bit that drops diameter about 1/16 inch each graduation. Other problem may be that your plane blade may be positioned below TDC. Let me know if you figured it out and how.
Any update?
I have been a bit busy on other projects and haven't gotten around to it. I will let you know when I do.
