  • Ex-Kazakh Minister Gets 24 Years in Prison for Brutal Murder of Wife | Vantage with Palki Sharma
A court in Kazakhstan sentenced a former minister, Kuandyk Bishimbayev, to 24 years in prison for beating his wife to death in a restaurant last year. The former economy minister was found guilty of torture and murder by the court. In 2018, Bishimbayev was sentenced to 10 years in prison for corruption but then he was freed a year later. His trial, which has been broadcast live over the past seven weeks, showed Bishimbayev repeatedly punching and kicking his wife, 31-year-old Saltanat Nukenova, and dragging her by her hair, near-naked, into a room where she later died. This case sparked public outrage and support for a law criminalising domestic violence, which Parliament passed last month. As per the government data, one in six women in Kazakhstan has experienced violence by a male partner.

Only 24 years in prison? So sad. Was hoping for more.
If the system follows his “corruption suit” time in jail he will be out in 2,4 years.

Perhaps the prisons are rough there...and perhaps he'll get a little more justice while he's in there. One can hope.

They need to ensure he stays in prison the entire 24yrs and isn't given special privileges while there.

Hilarious, In usual cases for murder it's the life long imprisonment but this is pure psycho killing. Still, he got only 24 year jail. Damn judiciary 😂

My thought. 24 years is not enough time for the crime that he has committed.

There is no death penalty in Kazakhstan, he got the maximum punishable prison time. Could have been worse, for example 8 years, that what had been happening before

it is sad that psychologically deranged people so often end up in positions of power. And even when caught, get a low sentence. A normal person would've at least faced lifetime.

She was not his wife, they were in a common law marriage. On that day she was drunk herself, and admitted to him that slept with another man. Drunk people don’t lie but they say what they have on their mind. And he was always hitting her but she stayed for the money. She was an alcoholic and she was also cheating on him with another man named Raimbek batalov. So not everything as it seems. Id say that she asked for it!

You obviously don't know how abusive relationships work. Abusers will isolate you and watch you, and threaten you not to leave. A lot of women want to get out but they physically cannot get away. And if they try, this happens. Its predatory behavior.
