    - WS Fluid: amzn.to/48atNNY
    - Silicone paste: amzn.to/45HrVdT
    🔧
Tools I used to do this job: (* = essential tools)
Clean 5 Gallon bucket: amzn.to/3Zcox8r OR a regular drain pan: amzn.to/45LMypk
    - Hose to drain (anything will do, I got mine at an aquarium store!)
    - *Pliers: Really any pliers will do, but here are some of the specialty ones I show in the video:
    - Spring Clamp Pliers: amzn.to/3qXHxLb
    - FANCY long spring clamp pliers: I have and LOVE these ones: amzn.to/3sLh9oh but you can get away with a cheaper version too: amzn.to/3PdC62R (I show these Astro ones in the video, and they are OK)
    - Diagonal Cutting Pliers / Dikes: amzn.to/3PtcksD
    - *Sockets: 10mm (I use both 1/4" and 3/8" in this video, but just 3/8" will do), 12mm, 16mm (maybe, for drain plug of CSF rad), 17mm, 24mm socket: amzn.to/3LgWj6J and 5mm Allen Key Socket: amzn.to/44KAWBz
    - Impact Wrench: air, battery, or hand tools!

    - Torque Wrench: amzn.to/3EuX0VZ
    - *Long extension & Short extension
    - Trim clip tool: (usually comes with a trim clip assortment kit like the one I listed above, or get one solo:) amzn.to/45IRQ4C or flathead screwdriver
    - Pocket screwdrivers

    - *Gloves: amzn.to/3P2tifO
    - Two used spark plugs or large bolts
    - Hose puller pick tool: amzn.to/3EvvveZ

    - Underhood Light: amzn.to/3Pddw1M
    - Streamlight Pocket Flashlight: amzn.to/3r91Nth
    Infrared Thermometer: amzn.to/3ZbFFuF
    * Fluid pump of some sort (hand pump will do):
    - Power Bleeder: amzn.to/3Z8PyJG - I love this thing, but I have this because I do a lot of transmission services. You can also get away with a hand pump like this: amzn.to/3Pc03Ht
    Coolant lift pump: amzn.to/3sNehax
    No spill funnel: amzn.to/3Rdh0UA

Came here after watching the thermostat video, which was really good.
That new radiator looks really rad. I’m still using the original one from ~30y ago, but it’s copper and brass rather than plastic and aluminium. I’ve had it re-cored and upgraded to a three-layer core (from two). I’m sure your new rad, rad will last forever.
Timmy the Toolman suggested a set of silicone plus and caps for hoses and fittings etc. I’ve found these invaluable. Great work, Faye!

Ha ha, I'm full of jokes this evening 🤣. This is definitely a job you can't rush, especially because you're like me, things get misplaced and lost. Hey, we have that same exact same funnel! They really are amazing. No more faffing about with keeping the funnel upright as you pour. I have to laugh though at the disclaimer printed on ours, about not forgetting to take the plug out before the system pressurizes. I can just picture that scene **POP, as it shoots up like the Saturn 5 rocket* **SMASH, as it takes out a light, sending glass showering down** 🤣. All these jokes aside, great job as always.

Another superb video can't wait for the related videos to come out. I dig when you do tacoma gen two stuff, makes me want to work on mine. Quick question if i may... how do you stay so calm when you work on your Tacoma? I get Tacoma Frustration at times and i have to take an extra day or two to get it done.

    • @FayeHadley
      @FayeHadley  Před 9 měsíci +5

Well, for starters I set aside time for filming when the truck, or other vehicle isn't needed so I don't have a huge time stresser. I see small reasonable goals for myself, "I'm going to get this done before lunch" or "I'm going to get to this point by the end of the day" so I have little victories to celebrate throughout the process. And when I'm filming, I DO take a lot of time to get it done! In this case, this job with all the extras would have been half a day. Instead with filming it, it was 3 days, and then 2 weeks of evening editing. And the camera angles were really difficult, and I did get frustrated!! When I was editing I heard myself cursing the camera for losing focus, and yelling at it when it fell out of position!! But really I mostly just feel grateful that I get to work on it, or any vehicle for that matter, because it was such a struggle to get to this point. I still remember working a different job and dreaming of being here and having mechanic skill and know how. So that helps, too. But I hear you. It isn't always fun or easy, and I definitely get frustrated too.

Hy Fay, need advice. I have an '85 MR2, I want to switch to a better more modern coolant, what is the best option using factory system
Or what will be the best option if I switch to a more modern radiator with Toyota's new electronic water pumps for compatible metals
Bonus if there's a Toyota coolant that is track approved in tracks that require it, my system is flushed & heater core is removed, integrated oil cooler is still part of the factory system IDK what metal that is made of, outside is plastic though

Definately no impact for re-installation of any covers, I remember people who used to use a impact gun for even the smallest bolts holding tiny covers on into weak threads, they broke everything. If a steady speed of getting jobs done as with most busy shop environments is of the essence , a cordless battery powered driver with just a tiny bit of finger pressure so it doesn't apply too much torque, just don't let it go on hammer , nipped up is all that's needed for plastic covers

Faye, do you recommend an additional trans cooler for 4x4ing not necessarily towing? I have a 23 TRD Pro Tacoma w/ towing package but noticed I don’t have the external trans cooler…(not sure why) but I see here, you say that there is an internal cooler…is that sufficient or should I install an external cooler?

    • @FayeHadley
      @FayeHadley  Před 9 měsíci +2

Great question. If you take a look at the end of this video, when I have the grill off, you can see the additional transmission cooler that this truck has for exactly that purpose. Is it totally necessary? That depends. You certainly don't want the fluid too cold either, that also causes issues. I'd start by monitoring the transmission fluid temperatures during normal driving as well as when towing and see what the difference is. Toyota does seem to be overkill in the cooling department for the TRD models. You can monitor transmission fluid temperature with a scan tool that you plug into the OBD2 port. There are even some Bluetooth models that hook up to your phone! One thing I would be sure to do though if you tow often is exchange the fluid at 60k and every 60k miles !!

Hope you didn’t break any bolts off that water pump. Those bolts are too small, I almost broke one but took my time and got it out!!!

Do people actually watch this channel and not have tools? The beginning ofthis video seemed so mundane. If I was watching something like a doctor performing a surgery, then him explaning what stuff was needed would be understandable. But then why would i be watching videos of surgery? I watch car channels. So it would be safe to assume i have some knowledge of tools and well, cars in general. This is just my 2 cents. I mean no offense. Just wondering if anyone actually cared for her " tools needed" list. Maybe if it was specialty tools. But explaning what wratchet and socket i would need just seems pointless.

Yes - a LOT of time! Thank you so much for the kind comment. It took about 2 weeks of editing to get this one done - that's a lot of "free time" no longer free. Y'all enjoying and benefiting from them makes it all worth it and brings a huge smile to my face!!
