Fun fact: the Supra and a Porsche 911 (992) have shorter wheelbases than a GR Yaris, in case you didn't know. The GR Yaris has the same wheelbase as a Lamborghini Gallardo (2560mm)
Average casual American "car guy": did you just use yaris in the same sentences as a supra, Porsche, AND lambo??
yup makes sense since the supra is a pure 2 seater and not 2+2.

I have the GR Yaris and I just love the looks and feel of the car. A pocket rocket. The design is cleaner and less fussy than the GR Corolla in my eyes.

You guys are super lucky to get both models! Since over here in Canada we only get the GR Corolla, that was an easier decision for me to make, and I couldn’t be happier with the GR Corolla! 👍
Part of the best reasons to live in Australia. Yeah for daily driving, the Corolla is just a little bit better

The GR Yaris is approximately 205kgs lighter than the GR Corolla.
Gr corolla makes up for it with more power.
I was only clarifying it because in the video, the reviewer mentioned a 100kg weight difference. The power-to-weight is virtually identical in both Cars. Both Cars have the same maximum torque.

the corolla should win pretty much every time for multiple reasons, but the yaris is just special

Really good video and I think you captured the differences well but although I think comparing the two is interesting, ultimately each car addresses a different market.
The Yaris was conceived as a homologated WRC car and excels on rally terrains as well as tight twisty B roads. The Corolla is a far more mainstream road car designed for a much wider range of daily duties.
As a GRY owner I’d love to drive the Corolla (I’m sure it’s a great car), but where I live, that +200kg difference takes way the essence of what makes the GR Yaris so special to me.
Great video, I have a GR Yaris Rallye and considered getting a Corolla for the extra bootspace however as others said the GR Yaris is just too special a vehicle, with its bespoke chassis and a homologation special i just love it so much.
Just want to say though that torque is actually the more important figure, but manufacturers like to claim more horsepower for marketting. So it would have been better if the Corolla gained more torque as well. The saying torque gets you there, horsepower keeps you there, so the Corolla really would be less zippy around daily driving because it has similar torque output but weighs 200kgs more than a GR Yaris. Thats almost 3 extra passengers in a GR Yaris, feel how sluggish the car gets 😅
Other thing to note is the extra weight affects cornering and braking as well. Any tuner or high performance workshop will tell you the Corolla will probably need an extra 50kw at least to negate the 200kg kerb weight difference. So if we are just comparing performance, the extra weight is a huge penalty. 🙂
Otherwise i love the Corolla for all the extra creature comforts, extra 2 doors and slightly bigger boot for day to day use.

The GR Corolla seats look the business but they don't hold you in laterally which is a shame. The Yaris seats are more similar to the GR86 seats in their size and provide greater support. I like the proportions of the Corolla and wouldn't say no to one but it's the Yaris every time because is so special and $10k cheaper.
unfortunately we only get the corolla here in the states and it seems like a great car but I would prefer the yaris just cus it's a rally homologation

If they bring out the Yaris with the dash, front seats and pedal position of the Corolla it would be a clear winner.
I’ve been lucky enough to drive both of these. I’ve actually have a order in for the GR Yaris Rallye. Agree the GR Corolla sounds better, but for me the GR Yaris seems more exclusive. Bespoke body where anyone could buy a base model Corolla and put a Chinese made body kit on it to make it look like a GR Corolla. Also mine will be a weekend car so don’t need the practicality of the GR Corolla.
I actually own GR Yaris Rallye and also owned a Morizo Corolla (Believe it or not) but I kept the Yaris and sold the Corolla, mostly because of the width and extra weight of the Corolla. After driving the Yaris for two years I could really feel the extra girth and felt I wasn't able to pin it on a tight mountain road as easily as the Yaris. Just wish the Yaris had the Morino's closer ration gearbox and more powerful engine. That would be the ultimate car.
@@darrenprior6339 I’ve read a few reports that an updated GR Yaris will be released next year. Will have the same power output as the GR Corolla and digital instrument cluster. Plus some styling changes, extra body rigidity and suspension tweaks.

I’m doubtful that will happen, I’m certain Toyota would have waited and put a GRMN badge on that instead
@@darrenprior6339thanks for the insight. That speaks volumes about the Yaris if you offloaded the Morizo. I'm looking at either a used Rallye next year (2024) or the facelift povo pack Yaris due in 2024 which is claimed to have the GRC's digital dash, better aero, 221kw and the option of an 8sp auto.

I think the Yaris spins out because of its high grip and therefore less progressive rear slip, i.e when it goes at the back, it goes big. It has a longer wheelbase than a Porsche 911 and Cayman.

@@ProductReviewCars I just like how its lighter and more nimble and its better for drifting and being more like a legit rally car. The corolla is still very good i just would much rather have the yaris.

@@christopherbassit2757 a “heads up display”??? There is no way. A display on the windshield?? These cars don’t have that option.
In Australia we have it in the GR Yaris and Corolla 🙂 But i dont really benefit from it because i like to sit low and i am not tall so the dash blocks half of the HUD anyway 😂
@@cnrspd6969 Interesting lol...My Supra had it, and I did like it at first, but then the cool factor went away pretty quick lol. Never really paid attention to it. I was just curious why we don't have it in the US. Is the HUD not height adjustable? The one in my Supra and Mazda 3 are adjustable. Granted neither of those are Toyota systems.
@NEMotoGuy yeah i also find it not great when its very sunny because i would have polarised sunnies on and not able to see the HUD aat all. 😂 I dont think the GR Yaris HUD is adjustable, would be nice if it is though.
Doesn’t really matter which one is better as they both have the same G16E motor. Since these motor are overbuilt & can get to 750hp running stock internals with e85. Oh yeah the 2024 GR Yaris will be getting the same HP as the GR Corolla.
Oh for sure, but can't add more seats/doors and longer wheelbase that you'll find in the Corolla
after 500hp the springs start to slip, so not entirely true. Still a great motor

The GR Corolla just looks uglier. Even if it was better in any sense than the GR Yaris, which is not, the looks are just not ok. I've not entered or driven the GR Corolla, but I am pretty sure it's not as fun as the GR Yaris.
