Beautiful tribute to a Dad from a loving daughter.
Awesome!
@Troy Master you are quite ugly.
@Paul Gee agreed.
It is a wonderful tribute and honour to a father. Professor Feynman was perhaps the best physics teacher I never had. I began studying physics at the college level after his death, and during my first year at the university, I delved into his books. I had to make a choice between medicine and physics and later entered medical college. I wish I had been born 40 years earlier. Fortunately, thanks to modern technology, we were able to watch his lectures as if he were still alive and lecturing. He probably would have objected to being called the smartest man, as he was a very modest and down-to-earth person.
My dad presented me the three red books of Feynmans Lectures in Physics when I was in high school. I studied physics from these three books.
Richard Feynman was undoubtedly *the* genius of his generation of physicists. It is nice to hear from the best source possible that he was also a nice human being.
Spot on comment !
You can read his words, both in the books he published and in the ones his family assembled from his other writings, and there's a lot of video of him.
Thanks for sharing 👍 ❤
I never get tired of watching your father’s lectures, or his sense of humor that comes through in every one. Thanks for sharing this !
I can't describe how beautiful her genuine elation when recounting these memories is. I can't stop smiling. What a wonderful family! She's so proud of her brother, too. You can see it. That's awesome!
It's called respect... it's something we learn from our parents... like most of the other stuff that gets us through life... respect for others comes from the respect of one's self... and we learn it by watching our parents...
Feynman was a very special human.
Caltech can't figure out how to display the screen?
One would indeed expect more from Caltech.
Exactly! I've seen it in other Caltech videos, too. And there apparently is someone behind the camera, so this ought to be a policy: "NEVER leave the speaker (or the speaker's brother)!"
Was it just pictures of Carl that weren't shown? Maybe he had something to do about it.
It could be rights issues - they have the right to show them in the auditorium, but not on CZcams. You sometimes see the same issue on +1 TV channels.
Their cup cake of corruption runneth under.
As a Father who loves and cherishes my own daughter for the amazing person that she's grown up to be, I am sure that your tribute to your incredible Dad brought a tear to his eyes, as it did to mine....Thank you for sharing your heart with all of us.....and....Happy Birthday Dr. F"!!!
Richard Feynman has been my favorite scientist for many years now. These talks are precious to someone who recognizes him as an amazing human being who lived life with a joy seldom seen. His life deserves to be celebrated.
Been a huge fan since I first got his lectures at the age of 17 back in the 70s. My biggest regret to never have the chance to meet him. Lovely tribute and happy birthday RPF 😍
17?! Holy moly man. You've been set for greatest for most of your life! Congrats.
No joke, I bought the complete set of Feynman's lectures at age 15.
Flexing or not - I am proud.
Hope u r still alive after corona has struck this planet. Live long old woman.
@@chessdawg2459 young at heart 😁
The answer to the question "dead or alive, who would you have dinner with?" is always and always will be Richard Feynman.
"What I cannot create, I do not understand" - last words on Feynman's black board -
,,What I cannot see, touch and taste, I do not understand." Me
Feynman: Amen!
WHEELER amen!
Father and daughter relationships are 100 million and trillion times greater than anything in this Universe. I mean a Father and Daughter relationship is immortal.🥰
Such a lovely tribute from a daughter to her father!
He might've contributed so much to physics and science in general, but I think his biggest success is raising his children in the right way.
An inspiring man through and through. You don't have to be a physicist to enjoy his presence and learn from him how to learn, how to ask serious questions. He passed away, but he is very much alive and present. I am very grateful.
Dr Feynman was a certifiable nut. The best kind.
He questioned everything. A man dedicated to discovery.
No... he absolutely was not a nut... he was a brilliant teacher... and we learn best when we are having fun 😉
@Richard Collier he clearly hasent read any Feynman

I'm lucky enough to have one of my sons as a theoretical physicist and a teacher as well. I was an undergraduate at Cornell when Feynman gave his lecture series in the '60s, but didn't know about them at the time. I rediscovered him a few years ago and have watched his lecture series and read his books since then. His QED has brought me a clear understanding of light phenomena, and his lectures on the subject are not to be missed.
Love this. Nothing better than hearing about a scientist from their kids.
I have studied all three volumes of the feynman lectures any they are superb, and, often there is much humour. One of my favourite observations his where he is discussing the planets etc in relation to the early Church. He said that the early Church believed that the stars were held in place by angels pulling in all directions, but,he goes on to say, this theory has been modified.
john bingham , i also now start to read , give me some suggestions to how to read mainly mechanics, heat and radiation by faynman, lighton and sands...
Hello Yash.Well,I entered college so that I could study only pure Maths, where I sensed some amusement on the part of the Interview Panel, seeing why, when I came up against differential equations involving half life decay etc. Therefore, I can only suggest the method I have always used. namely, when studying the chapters on thermodynamics, which covers mostly what you ask.,If I found a single term that I did not understand I would go to a physics dictionary and to find its meaning. Now it starts to get funny. So ,to take a simple example.if I wanted mass it would direct me to say page 64.But on page 64 density woud be mentioned which neccessited my going to page 19,and from there to another page to find what volume meant etc.In this way I understood, and remembered that which was being written. But might I suggest this?.A professor who absolutely astonishes me (online) is Professor Balakrishnan whose lectures completely covers Feynman"s three volumes,in a way I have never experienced. He fully covers Thermodynamics, beginning with the basics and ending with statistical thermodynamics.Hope I have been of some help. J.B.
Maybe he became a Unitarian.
Sorry. I"m pretty thick and I don"t get the point.I am trying to link Unitarian with one who is a member of the C of E, and ,who is against the doctrine of the trinity, with the fact that Feynman, was Jewish, and like Newton, when asked about the existence of God by Bishop Berkeley, said that he had nothng to say,but the Universe suggested order.
I apologise Michael. I did not realize that you were referring to the original "to the early Church....etc"
"One of my favorite games was where he pretended to be a radio. I would sit on his lap and twist his nose, and he would make up songs from different radio stations."
This is one of the most hilarious games I've heard about! 😅 Just picture the scene in your head!
that's a brilliant open. Ended engaging fun thing to do with a kid.
"On the weekends, he would borrow a friends car to drive to Albuquerque..." ... salient detail, this friend was Klaus Fuchs :P Thanx for sharing !
Lovely! Richard Feynman is beautiful man full of life, full of humor, and lives on! Very straight forward, very humorous, vigorous and very simple soul.
Simple?... hmmmmm?
That was a wonderful tribute by a loving daughter to her Dad.
Mr. Feynman was the best teacher I never got. His books influenced me greatly growing up and they left me with this sense that I knew him on a personal level.
I envy you for having this larger than life figure as a father.
@Bill McQ he is available on CZcams and Kindle
I was engaged by Richard Feynman's twinkling eyes and charisma even in the short clips shown of him on Netflix's recent Challenger documentary. He seemed a very interesting character and I really admired how he put himself out there and re-directed the outcome of the Challenger Commission's findings, supported by General Doug Kutyna and secretly, Sally Ride. That got me looking at books he'd written - unsurprisingly, his humour is mentioned repeatedly. Just ordered two and look forward to reading them. His daughter clearly adored him - she literally shines with love at her happy memories of him.
He is why I took Physics. Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful man, wonderful daughter.
Thank you so much for this loving tribute! So many stories of geniuses don’t include “irrepressible, lovable father.”
I watch a Feynman lecture or ramble at least once a month. What a great teacher he was and still is.
I was shown Richard feynman by my young son . And I will thank my son for this formally. I've read a bit about him and I consider him a rare rare gem of humanity . Sorely missed .
Where have I been? At the age of 62 I discover this man only today! He reminds me of myself. Although I have nothing more than a poor high school education, when I first heard him speak I thought so I am not the only person who questions everything and sees things so differently than most everyone I meet. I am so looking forward to watching every video clip I can find of him speaking and reading any books by he and most likely his daughter. What a great day has turned out to be!
Well come to the universe, so much knowledge is on CZcams, sit with pen notebook
That is just beautiful :) I almost cried.
What a beautiful tribute from a wonderful daughter to an incredible father. Richard Feynman will forever be remembered for his contributions to physics and his innate ability to explain how the universe worked.
That's an awesome tribute. Can't believe it took me over 2 years to watch it.
I too loved his brilliance, his delightful sense of humor and wit. Her great affection for her dad is truly heart warming and readily understandable, l would have been honored just to have met him.
What a beautiful person in more ways than one. I'm talking about Michelle! As for Professor Feynman, I'm not all surprised he was a great Dad to those children. He had such a great sense of humor. Mix that with creativity (which he had in abundance) and you can entertain anyone.
You can see his niceness through her...his daughter. It's a testimony.
What a beautiful tribute! Tears of joy in my eyes...
We should all aspire to have our children cherish us this much, genius or not. This was beautiful.
My love for physics started after I read the book The Feynman Lectures on Physics.
Beautiful tribute by Michele.
it is so exciting to hear the voice tembre and a rythm, that has a vibrant part of his marvelous passion to life, I was never fan of him as a scientist , but rather as a human being, who love the life, the world and nature, as it is. Well, fortunately more and more records of Feynman's appear and it is always a pleasure to watch, read or listen. Thanks for sharing it. to Caltech, Princeton and to Feynman Family.
Touching tribute ! The more you know about the man, the more you admire him and his genius !!
I loved the book "Genius" by James Gleick. Wonderful insight into this truly wonderful person. Well worth a read.
I recommend you YOU MUST BE JOKING MR. FEYNMAN, written by the man himself. It is BY FAR, my favorite book. I have the paper version as well as the digital so I can read whenever I want.
@@alexisrodriguez2801 Thanks for the great recommendation, Alexis. I've heard of this book. Will investigate and will probably buy it. Thank you so much!
As I was watching this video clip, I was able to see the thumbnail of Richard Feynman's speech on Computer Heuristics. And wow, the physical resemblance of Michelle to her father is so clear in this video. There is no mistaking who her father was.
Prof Richard Feynman was amongst the greatest scientist in the 20th Century👍🙏
Good for her! What an absolutely wonderful tribute to her father. I love my late Dad too.
He is one of my all time science heroes, what a great fun guy, sadly missed.
this made me cry
Absolutely wonderful
Wonderful talk about a great man from his daughter.
I could watch this over & over again.
Thanks for sharing, and allowing us a glimpse into Feynman’s world.
sweet sweet sweet your father passed along what his father passed along,
great fun talk, Feynman
salute
Wow, I never thought I could appreciate that person more. This video proved I was wrong... An amazing dad as well. Immortal RPF
Happy birthday! Dick! It's been a long time.
I sure am glad people don't call me Dick... somehow I didn't ever like that name after watching the Nixon Kennedy debates... it's still there in my mind... it was the last time I watched television... and "enjoyed it"... it's actually insulting to any intelligence... but hey... it's not my business... you are so very fortunate... I don't know, but I have the feeling I was named for him... no other Richard in my family.. I was born on Sandia Base... my father was supervisor for building the scaffolding
I wish that I knew who your father was when I was at Catholic school.I would have naturally fell in line with him.My teachers would have hated me even more.(;
Thank you Richard for everything!
Wonderful tribute to a great man.
What a beautiful tribute to a hero.
what a human being that was, complex and wonderful; long live his memory and I hope that his way influence many to come.
Such a loving and proper tribute.
I never got to meet him, to my misfortune, but as a Physics undergrad student I read his famous lectures and his more popular books. I developed a deep respect for what I knew of him and his work.
I celebrate his life.
To his children I wish that his memory lasts you the rest of your days with love, warmth, and hope.
Very Enlightening to the other qualities of this great man. Very enjoyable.
Happy birthday Mr. FEYNMAN.
Thank you
What a tribute and story.
What an amazing farther first you must miss him very much ❤️🇦🇺
We may view Brilliance as a direct result from those that love their work, as natural as breathing to them, as they live their lives.
She is one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen, in so many ways.
Such a beautiful lady, and such a beautiful tribute...
Beautiful tribute to a father. Greetings from Ithaca, Professor Feynman's old stomping ground.
Thoroughly enjoyed that, Michelle, thanks!
She brought tears to my eye as she spoke about my hero. Thank you. It was nice meeting more of the family.
Feynman genes are blessed and beautiful!
Actually Michelle is his adopted daughter.
John Cameron I see! May i know if you know why he went for adoption?
@@poetrification Sorry, I don't know. Richard never said and I certainly wasn't going to ask.
@@jucameron she looks like him
Shut up
He is an inspiration to so many.
Richard Feynman. Belated Happy birthday
Whoever thinks fathers are dispensable or merely replaceable is delusional and deserves our pity. Thanks so much for reminding the world of Richard Feynman and his humanity.
So sweet hearing her talk about her dad. Inspiring to me as a father of a young daughter...
I just finished listening to “Perfectly Reasonable Deviations from the Beaten Track“. I enjoyed it so much I listened to it again! His letters show a romantic man with great warmth and humor. I also thought his command of good letter writing was second to none. I’m looking forward to reading his other books!
I can’t wait to delve into his lectures available on CZcams, also. Thanks go to his daughter for her contribution to these books and to her remembrance talk at Cal Tech.
This was so cool to watch. Thanks.
Awesome! Thx for the tribute and post
Thank you for sharing such lovely though about your father! A beautiful mind!
Best description of Feynman ever!
Well that was fantastic
This man had it all, he was a true genius, had a great sense of humor, was a great teacher, he could be very silly when the times allowed for it and on top of it all he was pretty handsome. If women weren't all chasing him I would not understand.
Love love love this!
I love this man I read all his books. Even his college physics text book.
Richard Feynman took the world exactly at face value. That was the interesting and unique way he viewed it.
Beautiful speech
Michelle has the smile of her father and a little of his style and swagger too. Nice to see his genes living today.
She is adopted
oops, right then, still his unique character has clearly rubbed off on her.
Richard was brilliant and the guy next door from what I have read and seen. Looking at the world as is really is even with a tiny fraction of his understanding just changes the way you think in everyday life. Thinking about how matter is spread out pure energy and heat is just jiggling atoms. Like he said it is fun to think about.
Just finished his book on his life in Marathi. He is great human being and scientist.
Can u send me that link in marathi here?
Thank you for posting this. Your father is an inspiration in my life and the world is a better place because he was in it. Peace.
im crying
She's gorgeous!
She's really smart too... a beautiful mind... must run in the family
How clever of you to point out something she has no control over.
@@borninvincible Is this one of those feminist comments? I've heard of them but not yet seen one up close!
@@smittymcjob2582 oh, shut up, man-bun
@@jppage3292 I feel so out of touch! Is being a man-bun good or bad?
I actually saw Carl Feynman in about 1977 or 1978 at a state-wide chemistry contest in San Luis Obispo CA. He came in first in the contest. My high school classmate at the time came in 2nd, and I came in 3rd. Carl was just too good for the two of us.
Feynman is a ultimate physicist of all time.
Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! BONGOS!!
A beautiful remembrance by a charming woman. I'm a computer scientist and it's really strange how much certain aspects of Richard remind me so much of my grandfather who was my mentor. I'm talking about certain personality aspects and his manner of speaking. I'm not sure how that can be, since I don't think we could be closely related at all. I know Richard is Jewish and my grandfather's family came over to America on the boat so long ago from a small village in Germany. They were blacksmiths. Life is strange and wonderful.
Absolutely moving
Fantastic!
