Nyango Star is from Japan he goes around Japan to promote his region, this is what I got from someone from Japan: "Please know that Nyango star is a yuru-chara mascot from Japan representing Aomori prefecture that's part of the Tohoku-region which was devastated by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in March 11th, 2011. So, anytime Nyango star makes public appearances it is to promote the region and help it recover from the tragedy. It isn't drumming for its personal gain but for its beloved home."

Nobody really knows who he is. Goes by Nyango Star. It’s pretty funny though. He’s like a mascot for a town in Japan that’s struggling to stay afloat. They are known for their apples.
The character is an apple that was inhabited by the soul of a dead cat. His name Nyango Star is a combination of something like, the name of the Japanese apple, and the sound a cat makes and Ringo Star. It’s crazy. Also funny.
True but I think at this point everyone who cares kind of knows it's Nao Kawakita, all the evidence points to it being her. Style wise it appears to be her, the character is super short, it appears around the time she stopped touring for her 2nd pregnancy and doesn't appear playing live till well after she had given birth. There's a video of Nyango Star playing drums with her band Maximum the Hormone on Nyango Stars site but you never see her but do hear her. There's some speculation that it's not her every time but I think things like this video are pretty much certain to be her. I think it's a bit like the Muppets - people know Miss Piggy is Frank Oz and have known that for years and nobody is too fussed by pretending it's not but at the same time they aren't going out of theri way to show the handlers and break the illusion for younger fans.
@@alphaomega7191 that's a rumor and a half at best. Not only is Nao Kawakita from Tokyo and not from Kuroishi (Nyangostar's home town which he helped save) this alone blows the Nao theory out of the water. Nyangostar's producer has also confirmed that the drummer behind the suit is infact male (without revealing his identity).
@@piecio81 - The evidence of it being Nao is super strong there are a couple of vids that sort of nod and wink to the fact - the one where the two of them interact and Nyango sits at a drum kit looking at MTH but of course never plays them because she is there is one of the stronger ones evidence wise. The lore is Nyango the cat is male - not necessarily the person in the suit. Oh and the person in the suit owns the merch and gets those royalties although that does help that areas economy. it's probably 99% certain it's Nao but if you believe it's someone else thats fine.

@@piecio81 Assuming you mean the MTH vid where Nyango plays drums (there are a few MTH/Nyango vids) all I will say are you SURE that you can hear her behind the camera recording? I'm not. I hear her for sure but there is zero evidence she is behind that camera.

The onomatopoeic cat sound of "meow~" in Japanese is "nyan~", while the word for "apple" in Japanese is "ringo", so then you just add a certain serendipitously named Beatles drummer's last name then mash them together, portmanteau style, (plus leave off the extra R to avoid legal issues) and you get
"Nyango Star".

I'm fairly sure it was her in the MTH video they did with Nyango, but I don't think it's her full time.
@@alphaomega7191 I'm curious as to what else there is to confirm that it's her, cuz what you said- while surely worth a raised eyebrow, isn't exactly what I'd call "conclusive."
Obviously there isn't going to be anything official, but i feel like "short" "pregnancy dates" and what just amounts to stage presence (that anyone could perform if given instruction on it) isn't really enough.
Not saying you're wrong, for sure. Just, wondering if there's anything more substantial to go on?
@@AnonymooseWasMyName - It's unlikely you will find anything absolutely conclusive but there is enough evidence to figure it out and they really aren't actively pretending it's not the truth. There's a vid with MTH interacting with young musos where Nyango turns up - it sits at the drums looking at them but of course never plays them because Nao is watching. Nao had her first pregancy in 2010 and it was tough, her 2nd ended tragically in early 2015 and she had dropped out of touring at the time - in later 2015 the first Nyango Star vids appear. She then falls pregnant for the 3rd time and has her 2nd child in 2016. Nyango doesn't actually appear live till 2017. Throw in a bunch of vids where Nyango interacts with friends and family of Nao and it's obvious they have a connection. So Nyango and Nao are connected - are roughly the same height, the timelines match and both play metal drums like absolute beasts. There are pics of Nao hugging a white cat mascot (canonically Nyango started as a white cat) and she's got a quirky sense of humour. Some of the body language is the same. Nyango's backstory of it being a cat that died and was reborn in an apple is odd but given her loss of her 2nd pregnancy it sort of makes sense as it's a mix of tragedy and hope. The fact that the mascot isn't omni-present but rather appears sporadically also indicates that it's someone who has more going on. The sheer weight of circumstantial evidence indicating it's her is hard to ignore.
I’m not sure if the person inside is Nao, but you can tell from the way Nyangostar walks that a girl is hiding inside, said many Asian viewers.
@@elfeedarcy - There are a lot of things to confirm that. If you watch the videos where they have handlers to help them too and from the stage it's clear they bare very petite which indicates a female as they are maybe around 5ft tall without the suit which adds at least 6 inches. Things like the clip with Maximum the Hormone where Nyango doesn't play because Nao is there and the one where it does when Nao cant be seen are strong indicators that it's her. The timeline of when Nyango appears matching up from when she stops touring due to difficult pregnancies and not actually appearing doing live performances until after her 2nd daughter was born, the technique, the people it is seen interacting with and the fact her name is incorporated in the characters name again are all strong indicators. I believe there is someone else who appears as a non playing version of the character but it's likely it's Nao actually playing.
The video "ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man (Crazy Drummer)" is also really good. Dude's a legend.
