The Bing Crosby Cup Great Britain v USA.
Bing Crosby and Henry Longhurst introduce the third match in this series which was especially recorded for BBC2. Featuring Tony Jacklin and Jackie Stewart v Johnny Miller and Burt Lancaster.
Great Britain and the USA are tied at one match all as Jackie Stewart, the former world motor racing champion, makes his debut in Pro-Celebrity Golf against one of the greatest of Hollywood stars. Peter Alliss provides the commentary on this four-ball match which is played over nine selected holes of the King's Course at Gleneagles Hotel.
When television had superstars, and not reality stars, oh I miss them days.
531 par five and Burt hits an Iron onto the green . Fantastic.
Jacklin's swing was better than ever, so smooth, such a still head. But his PUTTING - Oh God!
These are great, thanks for sharing
Absolutely right Neil,Burt Lancaster was one of the greatest when there were real stars in Hollywood, today's crew are not fit to clean the kilties on his golf shoes!
First time I've seen this,in '77 it was HM Queen's Jubilee and I was a 25 year old jack the lad working in London!
Burt Lancaster is smoother than silk. One of the greats.
If tour golf was played with similar clubs now I’d watch it more often,at the very least for the tour circuit imo they need to reduce the MOI on all woods. That last hole was a case in point, todays tour pros would simply boom a driver not worrying so much on hitting the sweet spot & have little more than a wedge to the green. Tour golf for me,isn’t rewarding the best ball strikers nowadays. Loved watching pro/celebrity golf as a teenager in the 70’s & 80’s. Shame they can’t bring it back in some form
Tony & Johnny popping 1-irons w/ basic Victory grips. The majority of today's pro's don't carry anything less than a 4-iron. Burt was 64 at the time
but still had a few gems left in his career, including Atlantic City, Local Hero and Field of Dreams.
It’s interesting to see how putting techniques have changed over 45 years
Burt and Johnny a good team
Burt yer the man 👍🎉🥇😁☺️🤞😉
Actual celebrities back then, these days you'd have an Ant or a Dec and a rent-a-Kardashian
Enjoyed that
Lovely blast from the past, when men were men.
Thank you hope you have more of these
Thanks for the comments on these uploads, sadly
I have no more. They were shown on ESPN classic quite a while ago and these were the only ones they showed. Would be great to see all the episodes one day.
@@neilp190 and they have sent you a question but you know you answered. It would be nice to see the rest of the series maybe somebody else will upload them to CZcams sometime I Wonder Why ESPN classic didn't show The Complete Series for each year. X
Any programme associated with celebrity these days we have some loser from Hollyoaks. Back in the 70s they had Burt Lancaster...
Johnny Miller, more than a passing resemblance to Jack Nicklaus!
Filmed 9 months before Bing died.
How’s the intro music with Concorde ... lol.
The greens are so slow compared to today.
One of those hats should be considered a criminal offence...
Peter A… the jumper omg…a cracking fashion statement!
Burt the bandit 16 handicap lol
Burt was a sandbagging son of a gun. 16? More like 6.
Amazed Jackie Stewart could drive his putting was shite lol
