      So glad you enjoyed it. You're right, those rock formations are magnificent and made us feel really small. It was a wonderful experience.

    Poorts normally follow river beds, Passes go over the top of hills. The Swartberg range are part of the cape fold mountains and are geologically fascinating, in fact the whole area is fascinating and it is worth spending time exploring the valleys and other passes round there. SA has the most amazing passes to enjoy!

    My grandparents lived in Ladismith and we always went to visit them for Christmas when I was a teenager. My oupa took us through the Seweweekspoort for the first time when I was about 14. I was so blown away by this beautiful place that so few South Africans know about. We used to have a braai in a place in the middle of the poort, and no other cars would come past us. Those were wonderful times!

      We didn't use the word in a negative sense at all, we're not big on negativity on our channel, especially not as far as nature goes. We meant intimidating in the sense that those giant, awe-inspiring cliffs made us feel small and insignificant. We still very much feel that way. 🤷‍♂️

    Imagine the guy who had to travel through those mountains to survey the best route for a road and pity the guys who had to build it. And they did not have CAT equipment back then...wow. Must have been an experience.

    I never got round to doing Seweweekspoort. So thank you for an excellent recording. DRone footage was really awesome. Rock formations are stunning. I could spend hours just looking. Love the place where you stayed. Especially the rather Gothic shower LOL!

      @DustBugsTravel  Před 2 lety +2

      We were looking forward to Seweweekspoort for long time and it certainly did not disappoint. No footage can do proper justice to the raw beauty of the area, but we're so glad that you enjoyed ours. 😊⛰️ Kroo Guest Farm has been lovingly built over many years and to cause as little disturbance as possible to its natural surroundings. It was fantastic to be surrounded by mountains on all sides. The shower wasn't bad either! 😁

    We thoroughly enjoy your episodes, C, they're so informative & spectacular. What is the name of the piece of music that you played when travelling through the pass ? I've heard it before when you do some passes, it's so powerful & moving.

      Thank you, so glad to hear you enjoy our videos and like the music too! This particular track is called 'Immortality' by Aakash Gandhi, available on the CZcams Library. Such spectacular scenery deserves dramatic music like this! ⛰️🤩

      That sounds like a good explanation in my book! 😁 I read somewhere that the name originated from someone's name that the locals struggled to pronounce and it became Seweweekspoort instead. Love it.
