- Polestar's latest vehicle is a 2-row midsize performance EV designed to be the "electric Cayenne". With 489 horsepower standard, 517 ponies optional and more to come, this is luxury EV SUV for you if you want more room and more opulence than a Model Y can provide. Want a third row? Check out the related Volvo EX90 for that.

That's a lot of dinero. But Polestar is really creating some incredible designs. Everything they design looks great. Sharp, clean, minimalist, functional. I'm really looking forward to the Polestar 4 reveal. That's going to be their big swing for the fences. The only thing I see wrong with the Polestar 2 design is the rear seating room. That car should have been 2 inches longer. New motors and going RWD is also making the Polestars much more attractive. Now it's all about the pricing for the 2 and 4.
Polestar is a beautiful car.
I was walking in New York City and noticed this car that look really good. I didn't know what brand it was.
Then I approached, took a look and loved the design. It's clean and modern, and doesn't look like somebody was trying to build a sci-fi vehicle.
Just my opinion.
This is a very beautiful EV much better than Tesla model Y. I love it.👍
yea for 30k more lol
I like your new glasses and slacks with the AOA shirt. Very classy and professional looking.
The Polestar 3 and 4 are simply the best-looking SUV out there...they just happens to be also electric. Insta-buy for me!
I wish I could afford this. I absolutely love the design
Work harder 😊
Solid review. Looks (imo) better than most in its category and the interior is at a high quality. Good mix of switches vs having everything managed via touch screen. 83k is a bit expensive so hoping polestar pricing will follow per Tesla as production ramps up.
it looks great. can wait for what the reviewers have to say in real-life tests.
ouch 83k to start. It looks nice, but definitely pushing out of my comfortable price range. The flat rear floor is a welcome improvement because that conduit hump in the polestar 2 was a serious dealbreaker for me.
This is more like the model X competitor. There are buyers in this price range.
This is a product for the rich.
No rich people are buying volvo/polestar.
@@queensberryrulez5306 I think the rich will, current there are only 4 choice on luxury EV. model X, Mercedes EQS SUV, Rivian R1S and this Polstar.

Nice review!
I preordered mine from the San Jose center back in February. I have an EQS 580 but the car is just so big. I'm keeping my P3 reservation until I can take it for a test drive. I was at the San Jose event while the touring demo model was there, and it was nice - I love the exterior. But the interior was rather spartan and a little stiff compared to my EQS.
Great car and first look. Bravo!
These look great
Thanks for not labeling the video as 'Watch out Tesla'! That's what shameless click-baiters always do. Much respect.
Yeah sorry, Tesla is becoming irrelevant now. The cars arent being redesigned or refreshed often enough. And if it is, it’s usually suface deep. They’re losing the edge real fast that’s why they are becoming dirt cheap to buy.
@@daflipbizkit Waaaaah. Just like they've been losing their 'edge' for the last 10 years 🤡.
BMW i3, Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe were the top EVs 10 years ago. They are nowhere to be found today. The 'competition' came and went 10 years ago. You should watch less TV.
@@lutzaby1997 that’s why their numbers are so much higher than Tesla

As someone who will be building these in the USA. Thank you for a fair comparison. I can't wait to get my hands one one!
It would be nice if they offered the “polestar” tuning package for the Volvo OR Polestar have a 3 row suv would be nice too. But as of now nothing. Just hope the ex90 will handle well.
I was there yesterday at the San Jose location in the mall.
1. Visors finally extend out
2. B-pillar has an AC vent for window, but NOT for the rear passenger like Spa architecture based volvos.
3. Luminar LiDar available only 2025* model / starting with USA manufactured model.
Rear air vents for the 2nd row are in the center console, it only has side window defiggers for the rear
@@EVBuyersGuide yeah, but that's the same as the CMA architecture /xc40 /polestar 2 which is still disappointing for true Volvo fans.
@@Vamanos46 The XC40 doesn't have rear window defoggers like this
@@EVBuyersGuide Alex, I'm not confused about any of this regarding the xc40. I got rid of my xc40 after 2 years, and got the xc60.
MY CONCERN IS if the polestar 3 is based on the ex90, did the ex90 that you have looked at recently, did it have :
b pillar or c pillar vents or roof vents for occupants in rows 2 and 3 ?
I dislike those center vents in the middle console coming up from knee level .
Our 2023 Volvo XC40 is essentially the same car with all features for what cost us about 60k. They have a ways to go on the pricing here.
I have the 2021 XC40 P8 but it doesn't have HUD, Bowers&Wilkens 25 speaker sound, vented leather and massage seats, 14.5 " center display, air suspension, 250KW charging speed, driver monitoring system etc, etc, etc
I'm interested in looking at the upcoming Polestar 4 - smaller and more performance. The PS3 is a little too big for my use case.
The 4 may end up being Polestar's most popular car. That'll be introduced some time this year.
Next week is covers off for PS4
im so interested in the polestar 3 but its a bit too rich for my blood. im excited for the polestar 4 which hopefully will also be revealed at the Shanghai auto show
Polestar 4 is confirmed to be revealed at that show on Tuesday! I think that will eventually be the big seller. Think Model Y vs Model X.
I did consider one, but it was just out of leasing budget. Maybe for the next one in a few years.
look so clean n nice!
Polestar will need to explain to us what the extra 20k gets you besides a badge and yellow seatbelts. Also, it seems really heavy for its overall size and packaging. But the 111kwh battery is nice. The 77kwh battery on my EV6 is enough for road tripping, and it charges fast, but having a 111kwh battery just gives you that extra bit of cushion to enable long legs on a road trip if you want to do them. On a road trip you aren't really concerned about weight, so a "big battery" crossover like this is what many people will enjoy, me included.
Considering the standard equipment and size it’s not really that heavy. 12% more battery than model X and about 300 lbs heavier
@@EVBuyersGuide its over a thousand pounds heavier than a dual motor EV6, with less cargo space. Lyriq at a similar weight has much more interior volume. Im not saying every car needs to be light or be utility focused, but i don't think the polestar 3 is packaged very well for people looking for utility. It's just a bit of a bitter pill. People in the US buying heavy, expensive cars typically want good packaging and cargo volume. The EX90 will sell far more in north america than polestar 3.
@@protovack it’s bigger and more powerful than EV6 with a battery more than 50% larger with air suspension, a torque vectoring rear axle, massaging seats, etc so of course it’s heavier. Cargo space is likely similar, we don’t have US cargo specs yet and the way cargo is measured in Europe cannot be compared. Weight is more or less right about what it should be given the dimensions.
looking at the Q8 e-tron when i turn in my e-tron GT, but this is a viable option. Not sure of the reliability of a new model though.
Even though the pricing is different I would think that people might cross shop the Cadillac Lyriq with the Polestar 3 as well.
Hi Alex. Any idea if OEs with large “frunk” space are required to test for unsecured, heavy loads up front in frontal crash? I’m thinking of the F150 Lightning, for example having inertia do it’s thing on a heavy, unsecured load crashing into the passenger cabin. Thanks!
Most of what I’ve heard is no. They don’t test it.
No, all cars in all crash tests world wide are done with no cargo in the trunk or front trunk
How does this qualify federal tax credit if it starts at $83k?
It's just beautiful...
Which one is better, Mercedes eqs SUV or polstar 3?
74k I could interested. But would need to be able to charge 120 miles of range in 15 min. I didn’t hear the total range but needs to be around 300
It’s 300 in base format
I'll wait for Porsche's Cayenne EV. Can't spend $80K for a Volvo.
This car is beautiful and I would consider this and I think the premium price is justifiable since it’s a premium item but this price point is ducked nuts. I just don’t see the that price making sense for anybody to pay it or take it it just don’t add up to me.
Nice new glasses!
Great review.
But the vehicle is just another vehicle most people cannot afford.
Most people can't afford a new vehicle. Is Alex supposed to review used vehicles that cost $10k that most American adults can afford? A lot of commenters think if they can afford X vehicle then it is "affordable."
exactly if Alex only reviewed vehicles the average person could afford.... he would be out of business....
Great review Alex! It's weird it's built on a 3 row architecture yet it has the cargo capacity of a Kia Niro..disappointing.
It’s likely bigger. As I said the way cargo space is measured in the US vs EU is different and I expect this will be closer to 30 cu ft by the time we get SAE cargo numbers
People are complaining about the price, which is fair, but compared to the competition - the BMW iX, Tesla Model X, Rivian R1S, etc it's actually fairly cheap, especially considering it's another 20k in options for the BMW to compare to the PS3. Big fan of the design at the rear, the front is decent enough but definitely agree with comments that an execution closer to that of the Volvo EX90 would've been preferred. Overall I'd very much buy this if I was in the market for one. As it is, I'll be picking up the PS4 providing it has the same interior and tech that the PS3 has (except LIDAR, that's already confirmed as only coming to the PS3 and PS5).
This is a Model Y sized... Not X.
Naa not an X.
Robocop will like to drive the Polestar 3 police vehicles. I'm a fan of sci fi and futuristic technology.
Great looking vehicle! Choices, choices!
Adventure - R1S
Family - EV9
Sport - Polestar 3
Which to pick?!
Ex90
Bolt EUV
ex90 or vinfast VF9 or ....
Genesis GV90
vinfast???? Are we still in business?
Waiting for polestar 2 2024 edition
Good review as always! I wonder why someone in their right mind would buy this over an EX90?
The ex90 is longer and offers less room in the second row.
I would somebody buy an Acura of a Honda... a Lexus... etc etc etc?
Shorter roofline for a lower center of gravity, better suspension, better brakes, sportier driving position, extended wheel base. Unlike the EX90 I think the Polestar 3 will appeal to a lot of sports wagon lovers.
You don't consider the Lyriq AWD a competitor?
Lyriq is smaller inside and less expensive with less of a performance focus. The Lyriq is likely to be a better value however
83k Starting price? Wow - this is a nice little car, quite compact, it will be in the class of the upcoming EV-Macan, Model Y not X, Mach-E, - I would go for the "sexier" profile since I don't have small kids anymore.
While the styling of the vehicle is really on point, I would of expected that the Polestar 3 would have delivered a more impressive range on a charge and 800 V architecture for vehicle that will cost over $100K. For the price this vehicle should be offering above average range 400 miles to a charge and fast charging that can charge from 10-80% in 18-20 minutes. It appears that it may already be obsolete from an electrification perspective and has not even launched. Kia and Hyundai have 800V architecture for far less money and introduced 1 year ago in the marketplace. Will the battery be upgradeable for better range in the future on the Polestar?
Que es america ? Es un país o un continente
Pregunto por qué todo el tiempo escucho américa cuando hablan de estados unidos
Es una pregunta respetuosa
Love this car, but I think the pricing is way over the top. No way this should be approaching 6 figures. It should be at a discount to BMW, Porsche, Audi, etc. It will definitely affect my decision whether to buy this vehicle.
Based on the first car on this list is this going to be just for the 1 percenters
Beautiful but Y Performance is $54K nicely equipped.
I'm a Model S owner looking for my next vehicle, and this definitely has my interest. I can't get over the price, though. For a new brand I think they are really over estimating what buyers will be willing to pay. They are pricing it like a Porsche. I think that's a mistake, and I'll definitely hold off ordering hoping they come to their senses and reduce the price when they actually launch the vehicle in the US.
Their goal is to compete with Porsche, so pricing similarly makes a lot of sense. It's understandable that you'd be hesitant and we'll be sure to cover the Polestar 3 more when we get the chance. -Travis
Appreciate the great reviews you do! Incredibly helpful and thorough. @@EVBuyersGuide
I am surprised how it has become normal to charge so much for the cars. I am sure it is well built but that is a lot of money as well. I guess so long people are paying, they will keep on charging.
If I had BMW X6 or Porsche Cayenne money, I personally wouldn't be cross shopping with this.
I had leased a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. Good car, but I'm not much of a Porsche person. Drove like silk but meh software and expensive to maintain. I leased it because I knew I would jump to something else. I was originally thinking of a Macan or Audi Q6 e-Tron, until I saw this. So I thought, maybe I don't want German, and I decided to test drive a Polestar 2 as a similar test to a Polestar 3. I liked it so much, that I sold the Taycan and banked the money I saved. Now I'm waiting to see what my final long term car will be, a PS 3, a PS 4. or hold out for a PS 5. Lidar is important as I plan on keeping it for 7+ years.
FYI, I owned a Jaguar I-Pace, nice car, terrible charging and terrible software. Porsche Taycan, excellent charging, meh software, expensive for what you get. Polestar 2, fair charging, excellent software, only second to Tesla. My kids have Teslas, meh build quality, men material quality, fair charging, best in class software.
Both Robocop and Terminator will like to drive the Polestar EV cars. Futuristic technology is part of sci fi technology.
the cyberduck holds that title
Lidar technology will be nice, a first of its kind in the US. And of course others will follow Volvo AGAIN.
Looks similar to my ID4
They should've hidden that rear wiper at the top of the window.
It came from a V60 Cross country more than likely. It's a Volvo remember.
cool looking but hate suvs
That is the electric car I would buy if it was $20k less expensive, ie less power (but still keeping a competitive driving range), or a shorter version of it.
RANGE!!!!!
Very nice but really expensive given the other players in the market. I don't like the fact that many of these companies still want to put piano black in their cars instead of matte black Piano black is such a dust and fingerprint magnet.
I own a Model Y and this has way less rear cargo room than my Model Y. I'm 6 feet 2 inches and don't understand what you mean about rear leg room. I fit fine in the vehicle in my driving position.
Having Android Auto is a plus. Definitely better than Tesla at the moment but no really a deal breaker. The vehicle overall is very nice and sleek with great premium touches.
I don't buy the "Our frunk is small to make the car safer" since Tesla's have excellent safety while also having a large frunk 🤔🐍
The Chinese imported models, include a 25 percent tariff.... So when the USA version is available, the price should be lower....
If you are buying a 80-90k car. You should have an income beyond the IRS limits of 150k for singles or 300k for married filling jointly.

I love the Polestar style. They’re so spendy…
Looks fantastic but too rich for most customers wallets. Wish companies would start with inexpensive EVs first.
Competition will be Macan EV.
It’s bigger than Macan, it’s pretty much Cayenne sized
I love the look of the polestar but DANG it's priced way outside of reasonable.
They'll start from about 65-70k once production has ramped up :)

Less expensive models will come soon.

Why not compare with the Cadillac Lyriq as a competitive midsized EV?
Inside it’s more model y sized
I was interested in this car when it was first announced, but the base msrp and the public charging infrastructure woes have really thrown cold water on my enthusiasm.
As for public charging, it depends on where you live and how you drive. 90%, you'll charge at home. Cheaper and better for your battery. I'm in GA and EAs network is just as good as Tesla's.
So many EV's out for sale, but very few to be delivered in 12 months. Motto: Keep the production down and the prices up.
Funny excuse, that for not having a front trunk should be a crash test issue - while some of the safest cars in the world ever have frunks 😅
Legacy automakers FTW!
Crash tests are performed with the frunk empty, so we don't know how any EV will really perform with say a suitcase vs a gym bag vs bags of gravel from home depot etc because the tests aren't public.
I always travel with an anvil in my frunk, it helps with front traction in the snow.
I agree. It’s like Legacy makers didn’t bother engineering a BEV correctly to utilize a Frunk. Look at Lucid and Tesla they are very safe cars that performed well on crash tests and have a good amount of Frunk space.
@@yhk1977 the reality is we just don’t know since crash tests are never performed with something in the trunk, but logically any vehicle’s performance would vary based on what’s in there .

A regular body shop, it’s the same process as any car
@@EVBuyersGuide Not exactly, speaking from experience with my Polestar 2. It's got to be a body shop that is in the Volvo Certified Collision Network, which is extremely limited. In Phoenix there are 4, and they're all booked out months. Insurance adjusters had zero clue about how to estimate the costs. The standard body shops they used refused to even take it in. Hoping this situation improves in the future, but currently it's a legitimate concern.
Nice car but wish they would stop with the silly lettering all over the car. I don't want my seats defaced with silly lettering. I prefer clean surfaces without pointless text all over it.
Think you forgot to mention one competitor, the BMW iX, which I think is hideous.
What a bargain
Good luck selling that for that price. I bet this car will be 60k in couple of years
I think it would have looked better with a fully smoothed-off front end without the trim around what used to be the fake grille. It's like they didn't fully commit to removing the fake grille. Now it just looks unfinished.
it could look better if it was darkened
If this wouldn't essentially be a Chinese car I would consider it.
It isn't a Chinese car. For the love of god.
So… they’ve made 3 car models and think they’re going to shake up a multigenerational car company with vehicles that are loved by many and exist as posters hanging in kids rooms as something to dream over? I won’t ever see some polestar vehicle poster in some kids room. It just doesn’t have the same feel or looks or power to transfix people.
Strong Pontiac Aztek energy in the back
Polestars are Volvos. The Polestar 1 was the Volvo Concept Coupe and the Polestar 2 is the Volvo Concept 40.2. They're not even that much changed from the concepts. The cars are built by Volvo and lots of components are shared. The personnel of Polestar are former Volvo executives and engineers and designers. They're not a startup at all. They're Volvo's sports division spun off to design their own cars. Yes, they're expensive because Polestar versions of Volvos have always been expensive. The 3 is the flagship SUV and the price reflects that. It'll be interesting to see these on the roads.
Also, these are very much Swedish cars. People always call them "Chinese" in comments but they are mistaken. While the funding is Chinese and the parent company is, the actual product, is designed, engineered, road and crash tested in Gothenburg, Sweden and even the platform is a Volvo-created, not Geely created, platform. In the future Volvo/Polestar will use a modified Geely platform but remain Scandinavian created products. They will also still create their own platforms.
You are so right, I call it Volvo/Polestar. Ford/Lincoln. Honda/Acura. Hyundai/Genesis. Toyata/Lexus.
Too much money for what it offers, if it had faster charging and better battery capacity then it would be worth the price. Else just wait for used versions to be 20k off.
Volvo is owned by China's Geely; was there a reason you didn't mention this?
Volvo is a publicly traded company on the Stockholm exchange and 50% of the shares are owned by geeky. It’s not a wholly owned subsidiary, but since we don’t talk about who owns any other company why would we treat Polestar differently?
No love for the Jaguar iPace 😮
The IPace is a quite small inside
I wish they branded them as Volvo since Polestar is so obscure if you buy this, you will have to explain what it is to everyone of your friends
I don't agree. Polestar is related to Volvo although most don't know. They've been Volvo's sports skunkworks since around 1996. But Polestar are far more performance oriented than Volvo and will only make "coupe" styled vehicles (maybe outside of the 2 that was designed to be a Volvo s40).

It's easier for a company to make expensive EVs now while materials to make EVs are more expensive. When the materials go down. You'll see really nice EVs at all sorts of prices. Maybe even 15k!
I was really disappointed to hear about the cargo volume; why have a vehicle this size with the cargo room of a sedan. Even my small Audi A4 wagon has ~24.5cuft and this vehicle is much larger. It looks to me that Geely pushed down a design edict to have extra room for the second row - something that is popular in China.

The Mach-E has one
@@AdamJakowenko Thanks. I figured there were at least some others, but I was kind of exaggerating because so many EVs have ditched the rear wiper.
Alex, you are one of the best out there, and no gimmicks about silly "quirks and features and a lame scoring system".
Shots fired 😂
Seems like the Cadillac Lyriq would be an apt comparison to this.
Only 400V, 111kwh battery but only 300 miles of range? Extremely heavy at ~5700lbs, kinda slow at 4.6 seconds for the “performance” version. Also only 49.8 cubic feet of cargo space? It’s far from midsize and has poor packaging overall. Additionally 85-100K is absurd for all the specs I listed above. Additionally it is well above the 80K threshold to apply for any tax credits currently.
Overall a Rivian, MachE, Model Y, EV6/9, etc all seem like much better buys and offers majority and sometimes more than what the Polestar 3 offers, or sometimes more. Yes the polestar is more luxurious and does offer massaging seats, but aside from that’s it’s an uncompetitive vehicle for the price. The EX90 seems like a better buy…
Well, let’s put this in perspective: it has the same charging speed as Model Y or X which are also 400v (~250kw), the starting point for performance is 4.6 with higher performing models to come and the curb weight is within about 300 lbs of the Model X which is a bit closer in general dimensions and features while being less expensive than X.
Genesis is the Baseline not Tesla for DC fast charging....
People always forget to mention the epic Bowers&Wilkins audio in these vehicles.
@@EVBuyersGuide Exterior dimensions of a car do not mean anything if the space is not utilized properly.
The Model X offers 92 cubic feet of space, 3 rows, up to 350 miles of range, base models do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.
We can talk about numbers all day. All I am saying is 85K is a bit ridiculous. Nothing screams "buy me" over competitors. Even the charging speed mediocre. Koreans get 200-300 miles of range in under 20 minutes, tested in the real world.
Now I believe the car will sell, but it won't be catching much attention. I do not see why I should refer people to the Polestar 3 over Rivian, Genesis, even Volvo...
Great, way overpriced out of the gate all the while Tesla is dropping prices.
Looks more like a 50-60k car to me. Over priced with no track record.
The future's looking very shity right now ... Cuz it looks like we're not going to be able to afford the future 😞😅
What about EV infrastructure in the US is currently pathetic compared to some countries over the big pond.
My guess is that the type of person who buys an 83k EV isn't going to lose much sleep over a 7.5k rebate. Might even be bragging point for them to tell people that they didn't get it and bought it anyway.
And some people will also pay cash.
6 figures for a car is the dumbest thing. Rich or not. Donate to charity of you have that cash to piss away!!!
Love volvo and polestar. But this should be about 60k …
Looks nice but $80k+ is entirely unjustifiable. Hard, hard pass. I felt that $56k was expensive for my fully loaded Ioniq5 Limited, and I just don’t see where this is worth $25k - $40k more.
No need for any tax credits for EVs in this price range. People who can afford an $80-100k vehicle don’t need a tax credit. Save that money for the people who are struggling to afford even the least expensive EVs.
Bigger battery, bigger vehicle, more powerful motors, more gadgets, more hand stitching and hand assembly. Either those things are of value or they are not but it’s the same question when it comes to Dodge Charger vs Mercedes E class
@@EVBuyersGuide understandable. Value is a relative thing. For me, where my money is important to me and not unlimited, I don’t see the value in paying 50-80% extra for frivolous things. Thanks for the reply though.
tariff on Chinese imports is 25%.... US version should be cheaper and could be eligible for the tax credit.... For those willing to wait...
Genesis BEVs would be a closer comparison
Polestar is an expensive brand and more sports oriented. This is more comparable to a Genesis, not a Hyundai. And that's not to put down the Hyundai because the Ioniq 5 is a fine car. But it is a mainstream car vs. the premium/luxury Polestar 3. And the Polestar 3 is a flagship. There will be a less-expensive Polestar 4 coming out starting near $60K. Polestar is actually aiming to compete with the Porsche Cayenne with this car.
