2024 Mach E | Blue Cruise 1.3 and Faster Charging
For 2024 the Mustang Mach E sees a mix of hardware and software changes that , combined, make the Mach E more compelling as longer distance EV in a very densely packed crossover segment. BlueCruise continues to be improved and version 1.3 sees its first appearance on the 2024 Mach E before making its way to other Mach E's and ultimately the rest of the Ford lineup. Once you're off the freeway/highway you'll be able to take advantage of significant (thought not complete) access to the Tesla Supercharger network to aid in getting you back on the road quickly. Not near a Tesla charger/ No problem, you'll still benefit from the decreased charging speeds and the improved efficiency. This hasn't earned the title of "Best Road Trip EV" but it's closer this year than last.

Are We There Yet? | Tesla Full Self Driving 2024 Review

The concept of a "self driving car" is nothing new but there's only one manufacturer that sells a product titled Full Self Driving. This package has been available for years and while it has certainly improved over time there are still many factors keeping this from truly being "Self Driving". Wow, very interesting. I originally come from Australia and normally there a home will have single phase 240 V. However, if you install a Tesla wall connector, as you pointed out, you have to wire it three phase because of the phase load balancing requirements. The electrical system in the United States has always bamboozled me somewhat because I am so used to having a three phase environment for heavy electrical loads in a household. Great explanation Alex I learned a lot, particularly that the onboard chargers are current limited, not power limited and the difference between US Mains power delivery at a residential home as compared to a commercial property. I personally would very much like to see that in the near future on board EV chargers are all rated for at least 80 Amps, vs the current 40/48Amp, as with batteries the size of the Silverado they are not simply adequate enough to take advantage of super off peak rate time periods..

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide Před 15 dny

      @@Bum_Hip The Mach E isn't really any slower than "average". Part of the charge time difference is the battery capacity size, Ford has a bigger than segment average battery in both standard and long range models which is why the real world range numbers are solidly above average as well. The SR model with the LFP pack does not peak as high as the Model 3 with the LFP pack, but 10-80% it averages ~85 kW which is right in line with the LFP Model 3 which averages ~80 kW, but the Mach E takes a bit longer since the battery is bigger. The Mach E also averages a faster charge rate vs the Equinox EV, Solterra, Bz4X, small battery Ariya, etc etc. Comparisons are important. With the big battery Mach E, the average is "OK", the update should get the average 10-80% rate over 100kw but the exact rate remains to be seen. Model Y averages 102+ kW so again, in the window, but the Mach E has 18 kWh more capacity which is why in our real world test the Mach E got better range. It's really only the Hyundai/Kia/Genesis EVs that beat the segment average by a large margin (assuming you have a capable charger). Ioniq 5, EV6, etc will do 10-80% in a very short time and average ~190 kW

Alex published a recent video of SuperCruise and I’m wondering why you all don’t do more direct comparisons of the technologies. You talk a lot about the camera-only tech vs those with other sensors, yet what you just showed, FSD & Autopilot are clearly doing way more than the other manufacturers with “just” eight cameras than with lidar and radar in many scenarios. Maybe not with weather, but make the side-by-side comparison. None of it is perfect, of course, but with every over-the-air update, they seem to be taking more problems off the table and offering more features, yes, with the same hardware. Do we see this from any other manufacturer at Tesla’s scale and as well? Please, come up with objective standards & tests and compare and contrast these self-driving techs. You all do this so well in so many other videos with your scoring systems.

      Thank you for the feedback. It's not that we don't to test these side by side on an objective scale but since road and traffic conditions are exceptionally variable AND there are only so many of us (only one member of our team currently owns a higher level ADAS equipped vehicle) it would be difficult. And as you mentioned, there are a lot of software updates that come out which means we would have to pull everything together again to keep things up to date. We may be able to do this, but at the moment we wouldn't be able to at the standard we would like. -Travis

    I had a very bad experience with FSD. On a road where the speed limit was 60 mph, there was traffic signal on that road , when we were in FSD , the signal was green and the car was at 60 mph, at almost near the intersection, the car suddenly drifted to the left lane and in the same second it came back to right lane . We were literally scared , luckily there were no other cars in that signal at that time . But I have decided, I will never ever use this till when they announce that it’s fully tested and announce the production version. Now they are risking our lives and collecting the data ..

      Even if one is familiar with FSD there are still plenty of moments of unpredictability that can prove harmful if not fatal. At least Tesla added the word "Supervised" for the demo period. -Travis

    …. Four dots on the Hyundai steering wheel are there because four dots are Morse Code for the letter ‘H’. I’m buying an EV6 though! Good review by the way. 👍

    FSD is a mess. I have a Model 3 and got a month trial of FSD. I can't get further than a few blocks without it getting confused and disengaging. It tries to right turn on red when there is a sign that says "no turn on red", misses stop signs, etc... its really bad and very dangerous.

    It's a shame Alex Doesn't know that Elon said Tesla is investing 500 million in growing the supercharger network this year. Gotta keep up on the news, or maybe not comment on it !

    What is up with that screen color? Is it really purple like that?

      The screen isn't especially purple, no. It's probably just the way the camera captured it. -Travis

    On the last question, regardless of your stance on evs, the only reason they exist is legislation. No company on the planet would of put forward the amount of R&D needed to develop evs if legislation wasnt forcing their hand. Legislation is objectively going to ban combustion engines in the future unless theres major political changes on a global level, every first world country seems to be dead set on making combustion engines history for whatever reason, good or bad. And numbers are showing how consumers are responding to evs, outside of California, southern NY, and major cities in states like Texas and AZ, evs are non existent, dealers wont even order them and if you ask theyll simply say no. I'm in NY and it took me 7 hyundai dealers to find one that would even order my ioniq in 2020, and I had to be practically in the city. EVs also have the highest return rate in history of any car, especially since most dealers have to offer a 7 day x mile money back guarantee to even get an ev sale out the door, and many dealers have a problem of the cars coming back. Also QC and reliability is a major concern as ev manufacturers are cutting corners everywhere they can, recalls are ramped and theyre usually not small/cheap fixes. My Hyundai needed the onboard 12v inverter replaced because it kept killing the 12v aux battery, that was a 2200 dollar job per the warranty reciept (they paid for of course, but out of warranty that would of hurt). Ford having to drop the whole battery pack to replace the starter relay because it was grossly undersized for the current is another prime example. And I owned an ev, this isnt some redneck from kentucky who wont drive anything but a 98 dodge cummins. I had a 2020 ioniq ev, which i adored. I got into a minor accdient where someone drove into my door. The insurance company didnt even look at the car, they just totalled it same day and cut a check for top value, citing they refuse to put their name to an ev thats in an accident for fear of lithium fires. This is anecdotal of course, but its what actually happened. Notice not a single thought about range, charging, cold weather, or any of the other fear mongering stuff that usually goes around. These are all actual issues and legitimatly good reasons to not want an ev, and personally I went with a lexus hybrid as a replacement. I bought it used with 115k miles and ive put another 8k on it so far and it drives like new, and it gets 40mpg which cost only like 15% more in gas vs my ioniq costed in electric.

      The BEV push is the first major push to change auto propulsion in a century and doing it all at once is less expensive than lingering it out where manufacturers have to produce multiple forms of propulsion instead of just a single one. Also China is almost a decade ahead of everyone and will close all auto manufacturing where they go under cutting them in cost. If Lexus offered a plug-in hybrid like my 2018 CT6 2.0E plug-in that gets over 100 mpg average over 60k miles and got a fed tax credit.
