Thank you Little Steven for playing this in your garage/Swedish radio
I can't believe I just found out that this is the original version of California Sun. It's amazing what you can learn on Wikipedia sometimes.
Love it! I love hearing different or the original versions of songs. Never gets old!
Great hearing the original - and to find out there's only really one arrangement!
Need on spotify TIA ❤
WOW! I'm tonight years old since first knowing about and hearing this cool version of "California Sun" by Joe Jones! Awesome! CHEERS!!
Прекрасная песня в отличном исполнений! Энергичная музыка, поднимающий настроение! Хочется из раза в раз переслушивать! Спасибо Вам, Джо Джонс и Генри Гловер!
The Ramones did it too, fun vibe
Was about to say, Ozzie's Johnny Kannis and Hitmen did it best, but that's not Cali Sun but King of the Surf !
Something in Kannis voice reminds me of the great "you talk too much" Jones. Fun Vibes aplenty!
Wow. Just as good as The Rivieras. In my opinion. Can't beat the 50s music. A style all it's own.
The Ramones version is my favorite
I can't believe the Ramones' version is a cover
Why? They loved to do covers.
@@talkcat10 Add to the fact that The Ramones covered a lot of songs. (Especially on their last two CD's.)
Even the Great later song "I don't wanna grow up" with its lyrics, if you ever think what's Ramones , that's it .
But no, Tom Waits !
Thanks. I never heard this version of this song. Slower, but you can understand all the words. I guess The Riviera's had the luck to have their version so we'll liked a few years later.
Good record - got way more soul than The Riviera's version (IMO) Thanks for sharing.
This isn't bad. But it sounds like it should've charted higher than it did. But The Riviera's cut a cool version of the song that really rocks.
After listening to a bunch of these, it seems a lot of times there is a tempo change for the more successful version of these songs. They just "feel" it more.
Wow.
Go Joe !!!
Mikey's Oldies But Goodies.
First version I heard was the Dictators' in 1975 ! Still my favourite of the Ten I know. But this is the original !
There are ten versions? Wow!
@@al_5655 Probably many more...
I LOVE it! I rate it up right up there with the Rivieras' version.
For 1961, this was a solid contribution. The Rivieras version is a classic.
It’s amazing how every subsequent cover has managed to mess up the lyrics:
They walk - that walk
They talk - that talk
They twist - like this
They shimmy - don’t you hear me?
Nekem meg van CD én a Rivieras változat. Most kiderült, hogy nem is az O szerzeményuk.
Man this version was before the Beach Boys and I think Jan and Dean's success with beach music. I think Dick Dale and the Deltones were beach / surf music pioneers too around this time. It's a cool song but believe the Rivieras version was the best 4 years later.
This song was written by a black man names Henry Glover.

"The girls are frisky in ol' Frisco?" - Only to each other!! ;)
L-M-F-A-OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
This song rocks, but I take the Rivieras version. I like the faster tempo and the main riff sounds more catchy on guitar.
ester, I think the Rivieras hit was powered by the organ as far as instruments go
Check out The Ramones version..
Richard Whole, I totally agree with you, it sucks. I love the Rivieras and also the Ramones versions. This one has no juice, no soul
@Richard Whole Instant Sunshine...
My favorite version is the version Brian Wilson did
Wonder why some versions make it, others not - guess you have to have the right "feel" for a song... And promotion...
I prefer this original version over the Rivieras
Whaaaat? Wasn't it the Ramones who made this masterpiece?
No they did not, Joe Jones released the original California Sun in 1961 The Rivieras covered it in 1964 which was the biggest hit version. B TW The Ramones did not form until 1974.
@@denniswright2586 Say whaaaat!? Next your are gonna tell me something crazy like the Ramones didn't write, I don't know, Out of Time, maybe? That it was, like, I don't know, The Rolling Stones?
Joe Jones & The Riverias !
@@KaizoeAzurum oh, sorry I am not an expert in every single rock classic of the whole world. I am sure you know everything.
@@desmondhume8071 Yeah, it's douchier than intended when the context isn't apparent, or forgotten.
You're not really coming off as if you just realized it's not a Ramones original (not sure how you would when it's not musically or lyrically their style).
And I recommend you go listen to Out of Time, if you do it in the order of Chris Farlowe, Ramones and then Stones, you might hear what I heard and understand why I wrote what I wrote and how.
I like the horn section better than the god awful keyboards.
He invented it but The Ramones perfected it.
