      @sail4free1 Před rokem +2

      If they want a rig to practice on, they might start out with something older and cheaper -- those Airstreams are spendy for no more than you get. The shape really compromises storage (up high *and* down low) -- totally *not* suitable for living fulltime and offgrid as we do. For $300, they could also have the axles moved *under* the springs -- raises the whole trailer up 5 or 6" = much more suitable for dirt roads. :)

    • @sail4free1
      @sail4free1 Před rokem +1

      @@rodneymartin6154 -- In 6 years and 10 months of living fulltime and offgrid and rolling about 11,000 miles a year (about 1/3rd of that actual towing miles), we have never noticed that to be an issue on any of our tires. :) Our trailer tires are carrying about 2,500# per tire so it's not like there is no load on them. We've had bigger issues with trailer axle alignment thrown off by not replacing both leaf spring packs on a given axle at the same time. That can scrub tires to ruin in record time. :(

    We welded a receiver hitch on top of the blade on our Mini Excavator. Makes moving trailers around the yard pretty easy.

    I'm amazed that Mini Ex hasn't got an LS motor sticking out the back of it. It must be the only thing in the Fab Rats fleet thats standard.

    On Netflix there used to be a channel called Towies,a recovery company in Australia. They had a excavator with a winch on it. Better than a skid steer with one. Very versatile machine. You have the beginnings with yours!

    I like the way the the plate is welded on the teeth... It is perfect for digging around cables and power lines without hooking one. We used to do that with some of our buckets, too.👍

    An excellent video, nice recovery. Made my laugh when you loaded the mini Excavator and it lifted the truck.
    I love your thinking and creativeness with the fab rats approved hitch pin, and a bit of road maintenance to boot. I hope granny kept her promise and didn't weld anything. 😄👍
