  • Today was a busy day! James finally had his physical therapy evaluation and Tessie had her four year well child check up. And in the midst of it all we managed to fit in everything else too!
Welcome to Autmazing! We talk a lot about autism around here because as a family with at least four kids and a mom and dad on the autism spectrum we believe that autism acceptance is extremely important. We also post family vlogs daily, about our lives. You'll get glimpses of what's going on at the moment in our lives, usually in a little town in Michigan, or in the nearby city that Paul works in.
We are a family of 7, with a Mom named Cammie and a Dad named Paul. Sadie is 12, Maggie is 10, Patrick is 7, James is 5, and Tessie is now 4!

I guess that rules out EDS and such as a cause but while exome testing would tell you for sure. My grandfather was an a orthopedic surgeon and when I was little was prescribed special shoes (similar to a normal shoe put on the wrong foot) to straighten my feet out and make them curve the right way. I still have hammer toes and toes that don't function and would require complete reconstruction of my feet's muscles as some toes are pulled sideways to nearly 180 of normal position. I can still walk normally as the toes do not affect function very much however swimming and sports are more difficult and make all of my tendons lock up.

I was in a lot of PT as a kid. I hope it helps James! Your descriptions of James' ankles and knees bending too much in certain directions made me cringe and I didn't even see it (I'm sort of glad you didn't include footage of that).
I loved Tessie's "Grow like a wildflower" shirt!

British comedian Michael McIntyre has a hilarious sketch about toe walking and large calves, in case you need a good laugh. Glad Tessie was okay with needles, I need to be laid flat (I faint).

I have Hypomobility spectrum disoder (h-EDS can also be co-morbid) and it is often co-morbid with Autism, has he diagnosed? as this can either be not symptomatic or have symptomatic. I have the symptomatic type, symptoms can involve Pain, dislocation, sublocation, hyper extension, gut issues, bladder issues, issues with blood pressure and chronic fatigue. Most people don't have symptoms but it may be something to look out for.
