@Unknown If we were to believe in every eye witness or psychics, yes. But we have no psychical evidence of that. But most certainly greys are a thing, they are the most recurrent reported. Then maybe something like the Nordics. These two descriptions and the famous cases related to them beat every other by light years.
@Unknown It's exaclty because of cases like this allegedly KGB book that you shouldn't believe in every report. The backstory I heard of this book is doubtful. And the exposition to the world hasn't been the best. Do you have any links to the prints of the original pages leaked of this book?

Do you realize you've created something *really* valuable here?
Any emergency service, rescue service, police, fire department, medics, security teams and even the army, they all have a need for effective and immediate lighting when they have to do their jobs and possibly safe lives.
You should try to commercialize this. The best ideas are the most simple ones.
Combine it with idiot-proof software. A mobile app even. Pick a height and click for take off. That simple.
(Most common mistake with 'official' commercial drones is their complicated user interface).

Not just emergency services, but basically anybody that works outdoors at night needs lights. From people that clean spills to guys that do roadwork. And it doesn't have to be work related either. Imagine a small fleet of these illuminating a beach party or, leave the colored lights on there and you could shine at an open air dance festival. The possibilities are pretty much endless. Just make sure you keep that user interface ab-so-lu-te-ly simple.
The only problem with the tech we have now is the 20-30min max battery life.
If someone could solve that problem and still make the thing affordable and relatively compact they would have a gold mine in their palms.

20-30 minutes could make all the difference in some situations, like first aid at an accident, but I get what you're saying.
I guess battery weight is always a main issue, even for cars.
Just a quick out of the box thought.. I can imagine a system where one drone replaces the other once its battery gets low. Carry a total of 4 battery packs and you're already at about 80-120 minutes of light.

Yea, it would make sense that there's stuff like that out there. Not sure about relative simple drones just for lighting though.. Usually it's something more complicated, like an IR cam that you mention, and those drones often require a bit of knowledge to fly around.
I'm thinking in much more simple terms.. Press a button and you've got light. That simple. No knowledge required about drones at all.

I have a electric road flare I got at Thrift store for $1 each they are LED red and are designed to be run over. Little larger than a hockey puck I place it on my car when I am beside a road doing things. I happen to be near a drug den when I did this and man you should have seen the attention I was getting by the dummies. Cops don't have to get informants they have to just get somebody to go there with a red blinking light and they paranoid freaks don't know how to act. No wonder they are busted all the time they don't know how to be cool.

the only hindrance is that 10 minutes battery life :L once graphene comes out maybe that might become less of a problem
Well if you have some funding I bet you can increase this to even 20 or 30 minutes. This contraption is pretty makeshift.
Depending on the environment a cable that runs down from the drown to the ground where more batteris / a generator is located would also be possible.
You coudl make it a bit less bright and increase batteyr life. you dont need such a bright light

Moving silhouettes. So many moving visuals I love from this video. The appearing and dissappearing of colors, how light bounces like waves from the geometry of building, the balance from the natural light in the background & the movement of revealing the foreground. Man.., I would love to see more.

This is cool for videos, but 10min flight time is useless for search and rescue
+Daniel Willets Its 10 minutes LED lights on time I believe. He added a separate battery for it but with 1000w, its draining that added battery, otherwise, it's flight time should be as suggested in manual.
Send out the search drones! *10 minutes later* Search drone is out of batteries! Returning home!

SAR agencies are not going to use your standard commercial drones that only fly for 10-15 minutes at a time. They would commission drones built that might cost $20-30K and fly an hour or longer.
So that is where all the "ufo sightings" come from...

Yea I was thinking the same thing. They could obviously modify a lot of things on it. But they could throw a FPV kit and cameras with thermal imagining. Or "lock" the target running away so it'll follow them like a missile. That'd be sweet!

Sean Archer you could do that. There are drones that can follow you or you could program it yourself. Then slap one big LED on it and some big batteries and that could last you quite some time!
