He was a marvelous fighter who never got his due respect while he was fighting back in the day.
I grew up in Boston and he certainly got his due in New England. He was the 5th Boston franchise along with the 4 pro teams in the 80s
I think he did. The guy was incredible!
He got his dues. He was widely known as one of the baddest men on the planet, the undisputed welterweight king. It’s the generations that didn’t live through his era who underrate him.
@@GoGetYourShinebox Hagler was undisputed middleweight champion not welterweight.
@@Platypus8008 Sorry I meant middleweight
I was around Marvin in the mid to late 70's.He was a humble and down to earth kid and basically stayed that way throughout his life.My neighbor was an Italian guy who was tight with Marvin's handlers the Petronelli's.I went to and sat ringside at all Marvin's local New England fights in the 70's.Even have a Polaroid picture from the locker room of one of those fights as Goody is lacing up Marvin's gloves as I look on! I also accompanied Marvin to a weigh in the day prior to his fight at the Providence Civic Center in March,1977.He KO'd Bobby Patterson the next night as I watched from ringside. My Italian neighbor is amazingly still alive at close to 90 years old.His garage looks the same as it did in the 70's with pictures on the wall of Marvin as a youth working on a roofing job,Marvin with celebrities,Marvin with Catholic Priests and other fight memorabilia. It's really a time capsule of those times.Brings back great memories for myself of my childhood.
Thank you Sir, I enjoyed that history.
Thank you from Italy
What a great anecdote.
What a great story, thank you.
Great anecdote, it throws more light on the superb character and well rounded life of the legend.
Marvin Hagler was an action movie star in Italy. They appreciated him more then we did.
WTF that's tremendous, gotta see one of those flicks
He was Loved and Still is Lived In The NorthEast of The EastCoast. [FACT!] Young people should Watch Marvin Hagler fight Duran,Hearns,Leonard. etc etc etc... Beat all the Best Guys,50 Fights b4 he got a Shot at the Title? Young People that are Hardcore Boxing\Fight Fans. Need to watch these Fights.👊🏻☘️💯
Jim Assalone - Yes you are 100% correct about Marvin not being appreciated generally in America. No hype or gimmicks needed for Hagler. Im so glad that I grew up in the Hagler, Hearns , Leonard and Duran era. Your point applies to Joe Frazier too... very underappreciated.
My cousin named his eldest of 2 sons Marvin...♡♥
(The other, appropriately named Ray)
My uncle was one of Marvin Hagler's sparring partners for the Mugabi fight. Marvelous Marvin. None like him
Awesome man, any stories?
"The beast"!!!! Mugabi was awesome too.R.I.P Hagler
Everyone one from broctons uncle was a hagler sparring partners
That fight was so good
@@deanodebo Agreed. It's overlooked as an entertaining fight. There were some heated moments. Going into the fight, I think John was like 40-0 w 39 kos -- the beast was a fitting nickname. He actually stunned Hagler and Hagler said it was the hardest he was hit, but it just made him madder and he finished him in the following round lol. If my memory serves me correctly it went 11. Two greats, but Hagler had much tougher competition.
The greatest middle weight of all time. You are correct Me Sonnen. Marvin Hagler never even as much as laced up another glove in his life. Left 10's of millions on the table and kept his sanity and integrity. Just simply MARVELOUS.
"The greatest middle weight of all time." with Carlos "El Macho" Monzon.
@@chucku00 Would have been a great fight if Carlos wasn't done in by his wife .....
I heard he left the game completely because he didn't want 2 b tempted 2 get back in2 the game. So many greats stay 2 long. Even Sugar Ray Leonard didn't look impressive in his last few fights.... Marvelous did it RIGHT! 🤙🏽🙏🏼💜🥊
Detroit Hitman and his legendary stands is what I grew up on. My old man used to wake me up for those fights on US force TV channels while we lived in other countries in the middle of nights. His favorite boxers were Sugar Ray and Duran. Naturally, I became a fan of Hagler and Hearns. RIP the Marvelous one.
Hagler, one of the 4 horseman, a true iron willed champion”WARRRR”
RIP Marvin ❤️🙌🏻🏴
Best Middleweight of all time. RIP Marvelous.
I would say SRR was the best but it’s close and Marvin sure was a different breed. RIP champ
ggg in the mix
@@dug1161 agreed it’s definitely SRR but MH is clearly #2 without question RIP 🥊✊🏾
@@dug1161 No, his competition wasnt as good.
@@emanuelsanchez2949
He fought a few world class fighters but not as many as Marvin, you have a point. I would say it’s close between SRL, SRR and Marvin Hagler. Both great in their own right
The gladiator went to another world. Rest in peace beautiful human being.
Marvelous was such a great man and champ. Had the pleasure to meet and watch him several times. “Destruct and destroy” in the ring but always humble and gracious in public. Wrote me a nice email from Italy when my son was born. A champ in every way. “Keep punching” as he said. RIP ❤️
I believe he made a few movies in Italy as well. And he was living in NH when he passed. Who would have thought Marvin Hagler was living in a quiet mountain town in NH.
Yeah about 1 hour away from me
@@Cody70858 I'm with ya.
His money started Bernie's career
He was living most of the time in Italy..And comme in the USA few times in a year
He stayed in New England he was our Champion always will be.
RIP Marvelous Marvin Hagler
Hearns was my favorite boxer. But Hagler was the greatest middleweight of all time. The Hearns Hagler fight was the greatest 3 rounds of all time. He truly was marvelous.
Hagler is my favorite boxer of all time not hearns. Hagler beat hearns
Can't argue with that.
"Greatest middleweight of all times"...
SERIOUSLY???!!

Hagler vs Hearns is the best fight in combat sports history IMO. Based on what was on the line. There's never been 2 GOATS go at it like that.
Hagler vs hearns looked like two men trying to kill each other lol hearns came close but the will of hagler was unstoppable 👍🏻🙅🏻♂️🙏🏻🙌🏻🏴
Marvin Hagler greatest middleweight of all time. Never even seen him look hurt.
The incredible Marvelous Marvin Hagler. RIP.. just sounds shallow. You are always a hero to me.
Man I hope Brockton has a nice send off, the Marvelous one is a local legend
I met Clayton at Rampage’s gym in South County OC. He told me about training with Marvelous. I realize with the passing of MMH It was a gift to hear those stories.
RIP Hagler. Chael goes out and bashes boxing yet shows he loves boxing all in the same video. Only uncle chael p sonnen can let it all flow like this.
You can love the sport but hate the way its organised.
Yess and Im.happy... I lile mma.but prefer 100 times the noble art... Chael knows boxing thats 4 sure
👍
You're a weird person That's just wrong
@@thibaultdemontfort331 noble art 😂 boxing is to mma what disc golfing is to golf. Period.
I always thought Hagler won the fight with Lenard.
Only cause he did.
I don't think he did but it was a very close fight but I do think Leonard just stole it.
He did
100%
Agreed. Sugar Ray was somehow more maketable in their opinion but blue collars knew who the champ was. Hagler went from construction site to the penthouse.
Psalm 82:6 "I have said that ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High; but ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes."

The Marvelous One was most definitely the greatest fighter I have ever seen do it. And that Round 1 w/ Tommy Hearns is truly an epic 3 minutes. Very respectful of Chael to have shared his connection with Hagler this way.
Out of "The Four Horseman" I would have to say I knew Hagler the least but his name carried such a high level of respect in the world of boxing that I felt as if I knew him very well. Great video, thank you!
That's a nice piece on the marvelous one. 🍻🙋 RIP
I am from Brockton and have stood next to Marvin in a restaurant lobby. Did not know him myself but do know folks that did.. Rest Marvin. You provided a lot of thrills and entertainment. Thank you.
Man, great job talking about the great Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Hagler was a fighting machine and one of the best boxers ever. I was very sad to hear he died. He is an inspiration. His match vs Hearns is legendary, everyone fighter watch it. Sheer determination, ferocity, and guts on the part of both boxers. Unreal sporting spectacle. Pat Putnams article in SI about the match is great too, read it.
Hagler made being bald cool, not Jordan. Dude was the combat athlete that brought me in as a fan. Devastating to hear, but glad he's getting the acclaim he earned.
R.I.P to one of the greatest to ever step in the ring
Imagine being one of those guys who threw beer cups and bottles at him when he won his first world championship at wembley, the shame, I sure hope they feel ashamed now
The sports fans in the UK are classless hooligans. The worst of the worst.

Undisputed.... 👑
I really enjoyed the ending of this segment. Great listening to you!
♥️ this might’ve been your best video ever. Marvin Hagler rest in peace. All school the only school! I love it The heart of a champion. ✝️
Thank you Marvin, Clayton and Chael.
Marvin and his camp wanted to negotiate a rematch but Leonard camp refused them a rematch, that’s when Marvin walked away and never looked back.
Rest in peace champ, you are the toughest, thanks for all the entertaining fights, you have laid it all out in the ring, greatest respect to you!
Best video I’ve seen! Thank you! That was marvelous!
One of my heroes growing up. He fought everyone. Fought hard to get to the top. Life lessons.
RIP Champ. One of the best to ever do it ! Thank you for all the Great Memory's .🙏
Damn good show Chael, RIP Marvin 🙏
He was just a solid fighter very discipline. He wasn't flashy just workman like. He never got out of shape between fights. He put the time in the GYM. I personally think he beat Leonard in his last fight. All Leonard did after the 4th round was hold. R I P Champ.
One of your best videos yet, Chael.
You a stand up guy Fr , Chael your very appreciate on so many levels ..RIP Marvin Hagler one of my top 3 favorite FIGHTERS of all time
Part of the golden era of MW boxing in the 80s and what a time that was. What a legend. RIP champ.
Hagler=greatness
The Champ fought the way you should fight. RIP
What a great story about Hagler told with such love and warmth and respect and what a lesson for other fighters such as Connor Mcgregor who cannot get out from his silk sheets to train properly.
Great insight Chael
Hagler was awesome and hiim staring his opponents down was scary as hell
The awe inspiring Marvellous Marvin Hagler. He did it his way and as the years go by the respect he wanted so dearly will increase due to his unique story! RIP champ
Wonderful eulogy for a boxer from an mma guy. Thanks uncle chael.
Something about this one was stronger than usual.
I met marvelous when I was 16 at a store and didn't know who he was, my uncle was there and introduced me to him. He was one of the nicest people just a normal guy and a real champion In New England he made us all proud RIP champ
One of the greatest Eva May he rest in power 🙏💯
Dude...I like you! Your commentary style, its unique...So thorough and well thought out! Black man fan of the bad Guy!
Thank you for everything, Marvin
Great analysis
Only Chael could take a story about one of the greatest middleweight boxers of all time and make it about himself 😂
Favorite boxer ever and I wasn't even alive during his run but when I started watching his fights I binged on every one that you can find and I personally think he was the GREATEST middleweight ever... And he absolutely won the sugar ray fight his only losses were to Monroe from Philly when he was incredibly green...
I love showing that fight to people who have never watched it. Unreal.
It’s hard getting out of bed at 5 am when ur sleeping on silk sheets ... Marvin Hagler...
when your sleeping in silk pyjamas
Marvin was one of my favorite boxers always coming forward boxing like a like his life depended on it rest in peace man one of the best
‘Find a way to work that in’ 😂🤣😂😅
RIP to Marv!!!
I was born in the 80's so I didn't get to see Hagler fight live, but me my dad and my grandpa all loved boxing and watched old tapes. Hagler was special, and one of my favorites. My only thing about Hagler v Leonard is that it should have been 2 years earlier, when Hagler first wanted the fight. RIP Marvelous Marvin Hagler
Amazing commentary
My favorite story about Marvelous Marvin Hagler is someone in his camp suggested he stop giving the Petronelli brothers 10% of his purse and pay them a flat rate instead. The marvelous one told that guy as long as he boxed the Petronelli brothers would get their 10% and if he mentioned the idea again he would be fired. He was honest and loyal. He never ducked anyone, he never backed down from anyone, he was and will always be the champ.
The Vaccine got him.May he R.I.P

Hey Chael. I recently found something of my dad’s. He’s passed now for over 10 yrs. I found a picture of Marvin and my him at the boxing hall of fame in Canasota NY during its annual induction ceremonies. Seeing my dad and Marvin posing for a picture all suited up. SMH. My dad was a NYC cab driver (American!,) Him and Marvin all suited up. He didn’t often wear a suit but there it was. Marvin had a big ol smile. 2 tough guys. 2 cool dudes.
Like the guy who made this video. 👊🏼
I genuinely thought that your title read..." I OWN Marvellous Marvin Haggler!"
I was like....rude. fr though.

Toughest man that ever stepped in the ring.
Good for you chael
The Repton gym in London had a competition in the early 2000's with the rotunda gym in Liverpool and the prize was to train with Marvin Hagler

Hagler was a very special fighter ! RIP Champ
The way Chael talks is amazing! So good as a commentator and a great analyst! RIP Hagler, the best true middleweight fighter of all time (Robinson can also be called the best but was a natural welterweight).
Grew up in Brockton, Marvin was a legend. The blue collar city was dying, he infused new hope along with Brockton football. Marvin was always class. He loved Italian Kitchen and Cape Cod Cafe. ....it was a day of mourning when Leonard was awarded the "win"... never watched a full bout after April 87
I just gave thumps up, in respect for Hagler, true champ.
Watching Marvelous back I never realized how much of a trash talker he was lol Very confident and slick. Thats how Tyson was talking in his prime in 80s could def see Haglers influence on him.
Dude
The day hagler died
Chocolatito lost against estrada in the same way
An outrageous score card
Hagler beat sugar ray
@Roger Ramjet damn right
@Roger Ramjet nope.I was a massive hagler fan but I watch it back and it was close,a lot of what do you like in that fight. The thing that pisses me off is that ray wanted no part until he knew Marvin was a close to spent force. Some of the wars hagler had on the way up in philly would have easily been on a higher level than many championship fights.Bobby watts and Willie monroe would be champions right now if they were around snd given a shot.Marvin carved his legacy out of granite.Ray had Hollywood in his corner. The guy that you can put on the front of a cereal box is always gonna get things his way
Im sad about Marvelous passing away, however its also sad we’ll never know what was in his mind now after the sugar ray fight now
Amen chael, remember my name
Well chael. I knew marvin and he was a great guy. Blue collar champ and 100% fighter
