Treating people the same way you'd like to be treated almost always makes folks feel more comfortable about you, even if you write them a ticket. Treating people in a courteous and approachable manner prevents a lot of hard feelings and arguments.

I rode around with a cop once, we spent the day doing boring shit. First we drove around neighborhoods looking for blight ( Junk in yards ) Then we escorted a funeral procession, then we ate at a chinese restaurant, and we finished up the day by sitting on the side of a highway while he fell asleep listening to oldies music.

Very enjoyable video. I live in a town near St. Louis Park and it was cool seeing a more in depth view of my surrounding community. I think Officer Lewis is a good example of cops in this area. MN cops seem to be some of the most reasonable and fair officers in the nation. I think it helps that MN requires higher education and extensive training before cadets hit the streets. I've had nothing but pleasant and professional interactions with officers in my area. The "Minnesota nice" attitude this officer shows definitely goes a long way to make the community trust the police.

Very nicely done video, Officer Lewis did a wonderful job of explaining things and how the Officers work, what they do and why they do it. The film accurately shows how there is a slow day once in a while and how things can get busy in a short time. I feel that this film is unique, in other words it's not a video that is chopped up over a period of days showing Officers responding to a constant flow of violent calls, fatal accidents, etc. that so many other films do, leaving the viewers with an inaccurate perception of what an Officers day is like. Again an excellent film that illustrates police work as it really is. Officer Lewis does a fine job in explaining how different shifts, i.e. day shift, afternoon shift and the all night shift are . Really there is quite a difference between the 3 shifts, having worked all 3 shifts in my 25 year career as a police officer I'm convinced the 3 different shifts are almost like 3 different jobs, really day shift is a lot of report writing from offences that occurred the night before and, say between 7pm and 5am is a period of each day that one may call "the action shift", for example bar fights, domestic fights, DUI's, breaking and entering (burglary) and serious auto accidents are more common say after dark, especially during periods of hot and humid nights. All in all I'd call this video a documentary that gives the public a realistic sample of police work. It's important to note that there are few, almost no problems stemming from poor race relations, the mainstream media surely leads us to believe poor race relations somehow are the root cause of most police calls and that the police pick on (profile) minorities, but in reality, as you see in the film that's simply not the case in a majority of cities and towns in America. Certainly in select cities race relations are a problem, but definitely not a problem as big as the TV networks would have us believe. If I was grading video's I'd have no hesitation giving it an "A" , nice work.

I can't stand watching virtual LSPDFR, it totally sucks and doesn't come close to showing what cops do. I watched a few minutes of it and almost blew chow. Many departments have ride along programs so citizens can ride in a real police car with a real officer, I know Cincinnati PD does it, you have to sign a waiver stating you can't sue the city if the shit hits the fan when your doing your ride along and you get injured somehow.

Many police departments add on 5% to 10% to Veterans test scores, to attract former military folks, after all police departments are quasi-military organizations and after 8 years in the military it's safe to say you're very familiar with weapons, you can follow orders, work as a team, cover each others butt and more...all qualities a police department needs in new officers. Hope you get the job you want, good luck and thanks for your service.

+Rusty Shackleford don't forget the hand to hand combat training that vets have

If you go to St. Louis Park they will murder a vet. Look up marine vet Jason Martin. They shot him point blank unarmed and off duty not in uniform then covered it up and skewed evidence.

Very nice to see content of this type which documents the mundane. Too bad the regular big-budget cop shows can't be bothered to do the same rather than going in for hype and sensationalism.

Great show officer I'm an officer in a suburban city in Wisconsin for 20 years. We don't leave our 12 gage Remington or our M-4 Carbine in the squads. We take them out and unlock and unload them at the barrel. We take in and out our police bags as well. I work the 8 to 4 shift overlap. I hate working first shift. More action on overlap and 3rd shift! Keep safe fellow officer in blue!
