    How does skin age
If you look around at people in a public place, you may be able to, within reason, estimate their age. If I put Rodney on the screen here, he looks young and vibrant. Now lets look at a more mature picture of Rodney. Quite a difference. Mature Rodney has some wrinkles and much less hair.
So, why does this happen, or a better question is how does this happen? Well, it happens because our skin goes through an aging process. When Rodney was young, in his 20’s, it may take his skin 2 weeks to heal from some sort of damage, but mature Rodney, his skin takes twice that time to heal form the same sort of trauma.
This is because as we age, or as our skin ages, there is a reduction in the number and activity of stem cells in our skin. To be extremely brief, adult stem cells are found in various tissues and can divide to produce more of the same type of stem cells. Over time, as these cells decrease, our skin becomes thinner, which decreases its protection against damage or trauma, and recovery time takes longer.
Collagen fibers located in the dermal 2nd deeper layer of our skin decrease in number and elastic fibers, also located in the dermal skin layer, lose their elasticity, so they don’t bounce back, so to speak from a stretched state to a normal state.
Years of facial expression also affect skin aging. Squinting and smiling create crease lines in our skin forming wrinkles making the skin less resilient. There is also a decrease in dendritic cells in the skin, decreasing the immune responsiveness of skin.
And overexposure to the sun can accelerate skin ageing, as harmful uv rays can damage the DNA in epidermal cells or collagen fibers in the dermal skin layer increasing wrinkles and sags in the skin.

I read before that 90% of skin aging is just photo aging from UVA/UVB Ray's. So many people could actually prevent a lot of aging in the skin.

If people put on sunscreen more and eat healthy, their skin would barely age.

long exposure to extreme heat, and direct sunlight, will produce varied reactions from the immune system. All extreme episodes of any kind presents signs on the skin. Nerve generation is the cause. Avoid strong heat, drink a lot of water, avoid alcohol, avoid antibiotics, the combination is very bad for your health. Peace!

@@fotografiasromero prevent. there is nothing to slow down if the UV rays never reach. the only way it would “slow down” is if you aren’t applying sunscreen correctly or enough over time.

Your skin ages from sun exposure smoking drinking and being unhealthy, to prevent that be healthy use sunscreen or stay out the sun don't drink or too much don't ever smoke and use skin care products. People that are 17 mostly have wrinkles already and some don't so its just a matter of healthy or not and genes, people in their 20s then and people in their 20s now is a huge difference because nowdays people look way younger than the actual age its just the form of generation change and technology envolving.

You will still age, just more slowly and better without all the bad habits and a healthy lifestyle.

I think that’s pretty normal. I have had fine lines under my eyes since I was a kid… just start a skincare regime sun screen & vitamin c in the morning & retinol moisturizer at night would appropriate for your skin at such a young age. I started using sunscreen, retinol & vitamin c in my early 20s & I am now 27 and my skin looks exactly the same as a 21-22 year olds skin would look. I wish I would have started earlier!
