  • Episode 5 • Inner Rear Wheel Tubs
In this episode, Scott continues the fabrication of Denny's '69 Chevrolet Corvair, concentrating on the rear wheel tubs by beginning with the inner section. This build will boast a brand new Nelson Racing twin-turbo LS V8 repositioned to the front, a custom Roadster Shop chassis, massive 6-piston Brembo brakes, extensive metalwork, a custom interior, custom wheels, and more. Stay tuned for further updates on this wild project!

To make one inner section is unbelievable. But then to make another one, exactly the same, is amazing.

Some ideas on the wheel well tub clearance : (#1) move the rear trunk hinges inward on the rear deck lid, (#2) use deeper dish rear wheels that will move the wheel center inward thus moving the tires outward, (#3) use custom made longer swing axles that will move the rear tires outward.

If all wide bodies were built like this I wouldn’t be such a hater of the modification. CZcamsrs ruined it for me but he kinda made me a fan.

back in the late 70s my dads friend put a 327 in the front of a Corvair, for about 6 months he drove with the driveshaft turn right next to u, it was looped in, but he only had catwalk mesh spot welded to the hoops. u could see the driveshaft spinning. it was ridiculous. gearing was so low with the 4 speed he only did around a 100MPH, thanks for the video.

    Hi guys,
Just had the thought that due to the rear tubs taking up so much height in the trunk space that the original hinges won't allow the trunk lid to close then is it worth considering using top mounted hinges in conjunction with gas struts like modern vehicles use for their hood mounting method...that would allow the current hinges to be removed completely and provide as much space as you want plus clearence for those enormous tubs.
Great content guys and really build !!
    Cheers,
    Trev

I really wish someone would make a fiberglass replica corvair as a kit car with both air cool and water cool rear engines as options. I really loved my ole 66 Corvair Corsa back in the day.
