Julie, I think your art work is amazing! I hope you will consider making more longer video’s. You are a wealth of knowledge and I learn so much. Thank you!
Thank you for encouraging the freedom that one gets from playing around with abstract works. I just love your attitude!
I love your Kilimanjaro paper. The 300 pound paper is fantastic. I prefer the bright white paper version but the natural white is also nice. Your Kilimanjaro sketchbooks are my absolute favorite. I just posted a review about them on my channel ("the BEST sketchbook no one is talking about"). So underrated, and I love that the first page of the 140 lb paintbooks are now stocked with 1 sheet of 300 lb paper as a coversheet, plus the 75 lb interwoven sketch sheets are an added bonus for note taking, pencil sketches, value sketches, etc. Genuis!
I just bought one based on your review. Thanks! It looks like exactly what I want and more. I can't wait till it gets here.
Thank you for this longer video, Julie. So fascinating to watch the journey to the awesome ending.
Crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy 😂
I love how those crazy colors mix and spread.
I absolutely loved this demo, Julie! So free! So much lovely color! You’ve allowed the watercolors to show what they do best! Bravo!
I’ve watched this video several times, from start to finish, and I love it more each time! So much inspiration! Thanks again.
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH You brought in the Shiny paint! YAY!
Julie this is one of the most fun “2 minute “ vids you have done.
the perfect lesson for my Day Care kids.
Thanks
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!! I have wanted to move more into watercolors as abstracts. Thank you so much for sharing these ideas and presenting them in a full length format. I need to see the whole process, not just a snap shot. Keep it up. I so relate to this style. Your videos are invaluable to my journey as an artist.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Same here. Beautiful pice Julie
Loved your salt addition and the metallic additions! Going abstract with watercolor...cool!!
Omg Julie, you are so sassy and fun! I just LOVE this demo! I can't wait until the paper is back in stock.
Julie- I LOVE THIS! I've been taking the details of blooms in my water color and following the bloom edges with micron pens and it is so theraputic and a peacefilled process. I love how it turns out. THIS inspires me to move into enhancing the blooms- which I LOVE! Thank you so much.
*PLEASE* put up another series with a watercolor master like you did many years ago with Frank Francese and Wes Waugh! Like a 5 or 6 part series! I loved them and keep going back to watch years later! THANKS CHEAP JOE'S! Happy customer. 😊🖌
I’ve watched this again, because, Julie, you demonstrate what is so magical about watercolor on good paper. I love the movement of the paint wet-in-wet, the blooms, the unexpected. And the salt! Thanks again for one of the best demos I’ve seen yet.
Thank you for fun and informative video. Please do more longer tutorials like this. You are amazing.
Julie, BEAUTIFUL AS ALWAYS❣️Thank you for sharing your talents and skills 🥰
OMG the salt flakes!
So very gorgeous! I love the way you have used colors that aren’t usually painted together ! Sooo much fun and I love the outcome! I love the way you used the metallic colors in the negative spaces! You created a beautiful abstract! 😍 I definitely will give this a go! 🥰🥰🥰
Gorgeous. It was fun to watch you paint!
I love this paper so much... And this video...
So inspirational! Thanks for sharing. You are so relaxing to watch
Hi Jules!
I'm Denise and I'm a silk artist.
I use salt on some of my silk work.
One of the things I like to do is keep the salt that I've already used. I keep certain colors with each other, kind of how one would keep pastels together in color groups (I was a pastelist once). When I'm creating another painting I will take some of the salt that has the other colors and put some in the new painting. By using these other "salt colors" my new creation takes on a surprising look! The "salt colors" give a different look with pops of colors that are unexpected. I hope you try it!
Bye 😁
Absolutely crazy beautiful! Thanks 🙏 for sharing.
I rarely like abstract art - maybe due to being primarily a paper crafter - and even more rarely like abstract watercolor. I appear to have been looking at the wrong abstract watercolor art because I absolutely love your painting! Makes me want to rush out and buy all the supplies you used, despite being a total newbie at watercolors.
I am a mostly representational artist, but I loved this video so very much. This is a beautiful painting and I am mesmerized by it. Thank you much!
Fantastic Julie. I wish you would teach an abstract course this summer 😊
Love both the process and the product😊 love what you do, Julie!
Love it!!
Well I learned that Kilimanjaro watercolor paper is made in Italy by none other than Fabriano Artistico. I know this because I purchased Fabriano Artistico 140lb paper and some of the sheets are watermarked as Kilimanjaro. The issue is that in all honesty there are not many professional watercolor paper manufacturers. Over the years some companies have changed. Many are surprised to know this but the process of making such quality hasn’t changed much in hundreds of years but some are trying to use more renewable sources like agave or bamboo and vegan sizing but the main manufacturers are in Europe. Hope that this information helps in saving a bit of money also.
I bought some 300 lb Kilimanjaro sheets in October for the first time. I made a painting that I wasn’t too happy with so I flipped over the sheet and made a different painting. Worked out great. There’s not many watercolor papers you can do that to. I plan to buy some more.
Love the stuff ~ paper and the painting!
Love it! Thank you.
Her explanations are very good. I’ve learned a lot.
Beautifull tip !!!!!! I love it
Thank you
Learned a lot!!
Awesome !!!
Thank you so much ❤
Oh..so fun! I have most of those AJ paints and will enjoy experimenting in the abstract. I just need to order the 300# paper. Kilimanjaro paper has been my go to paper for most projects.
I love your ideas, but like to see more of a completed project. I didn’t share the same vision that you had.
Love what you are doing and yea I g me to play in a new way ♥️❤️♥️
You are so amazing,.
I often hesitate to play because I don’t want to “waste” expensive supplies but how can I learn if I don’t practice on the real thing? Joe has an old video showing how he uses a window to find a bit he can use for a card or small painting. I’m trying to give myself permission to experiment and if it’s not great art, at least it can be a note card.
I see barnacles in this painting...beautiful
Sold!
This is so gorgeous!! I would love to know how you framed this masterpiece. With or without the large border of white paper. Stunning ❤❤❤
Salt flakes huh? I have various kinds of salt on my pantry shelves. Only kept two in my paint box. Time to raid my pantry!
Fun video! Does Julie work in gouache too? I love to see what she does in these videos. Thank you!
Hi Julie, This doesn't have anything to do with Kilmanjaro paper but I have a question for you. Could you do a Art Tip on how to use Winsor & Newton Watercolor Blending Medium? Should I dip my brush into the Medium and then the paint or should I pour the medium into my water and if so how much Medium to how much water? Thank you.
Hey Carol… straight from W&N… see below their instructions.
** For maximum blending time, mix the medium directly with watercolour. Alternatively, you can apply the medium directly to the paper in preparation for the watercolour. Dilution with water will produce a range of blending and drying times. Drying rates will vary and depend on temperature and air flow. **
Hope that this helps! Thanks! 😃 Julie
Hi Julie, i just revisited this video and I love it more. Love the colors. What size is your brush?
I would appreciate knowing more about the salt you used. Such as brand name, type, manufacturers, anything that would be helpful. Ordering it is my only option. As always, your tips are extremely helpful. I love this abstract.
The brand seems to be a non thing. I tried to look it up for you to find a source. Seems like the most relevant info is that it is flake salt. It really is almost raw. Huge flakes and pieces. I was able to find sources thru cooking outlets. Good luck! Thanks for watching! 😉 Julie
It’s Flake Salt. I got some on Amazon.
I would love to try this paper, I'm Canadian, do you deliver to Canada? Thank you for the demo! Very informative 😊
Hi Julie, Love your art tips. Can you tell me about the portrait in the background?
This is a graphite drawing of Danny Wagner, drummer from the band Greta Van Fleet. I love the band but I am partial to him in particular. I have been doing a series of works of him since the first lockdown. That one is just a larger work that I recently completed.
What item are you using for a palette and does it come with a cover?
It is my favorite watercolor paper! I use 300# Kilimanjaro for my commission and exhibits. It's better than the more "famous" brand!
Does American Journey have a watercolor chart I could get?
how does this paper lift?
Do you think road salt would work? Too caustic?
I really don’t know. I don’t have access to that stuff, so I haven’t tried. I guess you could try it. Does that stuff have other mystery ingredients in it? Might do a bit of research first… thanks for your question! Good luck with that! 😊 Julie
Does the 140lb. Kilnmanjaro paper come in bright white?
Yes it does! It’s great! 😊
What color was the base?
And ... it's OUT OF STOCK! 😭😫 (Just 1 hour after posting the video! 😒)
Oh no! 😖
Longest 2 min ever LOL
The 2-minute part of these titles needs to go away. The videos are always good-much better than I anticipated. But 2-minutes is just a lie.
