- I actually delayed this job thinking it was going to be a bit of a nightmare with how the linkage was connected inside the motor cover. It actually was not all that bad and took about an hour. If you're patient and careful with removing and installing the shift linkage pin you will be good to go. Be sure to support the lower unit and not try and pull the shift linkage all the way out. Just lower enough to gain access to the water pump. Good luck!
Skipper Rob, thanks for the very well done video. I have the same Honda 8hp four-stroke that needed an impeller replacement. Your video post timing was perfect for me getting this job underway. The step-by-step was very helpful and thanks for showing the replacement part number for the kit. Happy Boating Brother!
Thanks Mark, appreciate it! Glad it was helpful.
Nice video. Did this same job 2 years ago. About time to do it again. Yep!...Getting that shift pin fed back through and the cotter pin back in is def the tricky part. (I did not remove the carb). I did shove a shop towel down below the linkage in and around the "black hole" first, which saved me from losing the tiny parts a couple of times. Also, after loosening the lower bolts, I positioned the motor vertically. The lower unit slid down perfectly, stable on the ground, made it easy to change out the gasket and impeller and reassemble. Thank you.
Engine was hard to start when I got it and last person said it was tip-top so I knew I was going to be cleaning the carb and changing the thermostat so it was already more convenient for me to remove the carb, but thanks for noting, that will save a step on the next time I change. I think every two years is a good schedule to change impeller. I have a 30hp etec that needs that done, so maybe a video on that.
Well done, best video out there. I removed what I think is the rectifier on the left side of the pin, made it much easier to handle the pin.
Thanks, I looked at it and wondered if it would but decided not to remove mine, good tip!
Muy buena explicación al detalle, muchas gracias.
The impeller move's in only one direction.
If your in reverse gear the engines rotation is the same as if you were in forward gear, if you think about how the gearbox works.
Then must have been installed incorrectly by previous owner from the start them I imagine
Give the people what they want and show a video of it running!
I have the video just need to edit a bit!
I would also liked to have seen it running after the install, to see what kind of force of flow I should expect from mine. Mine flows but compared to my Honda 50, not nearly as fast. Parts are on order to do this job, and your video is a big help. Thanks much!
Boa noite moro no Brasil tenho um desse de 15 e não consigo peças , como posso encontrar alguém pode me ajudar?

Oi, tente este site
Great video I have one but is not peeing
Could be the impeller but they usually still stream or spit a little water, you can always try to clear the line out the outlet port on the casing. If been sitting they can clog up and not enough force to clear them out. A small piece of wire usu does the trick.
Permatex #2?
