    Wow, I really do appreciate a review after sufficient time of real-world use! I'm pulling the trigger on buying two, as they are on sale. I'm not in it for the music really, but for the assistants. I am getting a pair of HomePods, and that will do me for music. Really appreciate it; thanks!

    like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, czcams.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

    Minor edit. The GHMini is powered by microUSB, not USB-C.
    Multiple Google Home devices sprinkled around the house is great. You can set up speaker groups and cast to those groups. Control the volume of other Home devices from the nearest one to you. And use the broadcast feature to announce things to all the other Home devices. (Unfortunately, there isn't a true intercom feature.)

    Great video Josh :-).
    Well worth any wait.
    I have a Google Home, which I enjoy immensely.
    I have 450+ YT songs from at least 5 different decades I am listening to, just about all day, every day....At home, and in the car.
    I do love YT. I really know little to nothing about other music services, so I can't really speak about them.
    Incidentally, I am referring to a regular YT playlist. Not Google Play music, or YT Red ! (I'm afraid I find myself to be a bit frugal !) I do have to endure adds, but don't mind them all that much. (except when in shower).
    I connected my phone to my Home, so therefore am able to play my music without the YT Red Requirement....Can also cast my phone content to my TV, via Chromecast. (I think it's called mirroring ?)
    I personally think the sound quality from my Home is quite good....Granted, I'm sure, not as good as the Max, but I am pleased with it 🤗
    Anyway, I do enjoy, and appreciate your videos !
    My Daughter has a Mini, so I'll be showing this to her.
    Thank you much !
    I hope you're enjoying your Tesla ! 🚘🚗 🏁🔌 🙂
    Have a Great Memorial Day Josh. 🇺🇸 🎖️.

    • @6MonthsLater

      In my experience, the mini will actually pick up my voice as good or even better than my Google Home in certain circumstances.

      I wish there was a way to connect it too a better microphone.
      I know there is the button which you say hey google, etc a few times but it would be nice to have that but also to improve recognition of particular words/commands.
      Oh one more thing I found is some commands get confused for google mini services e.g. I have one called night light but sometimes it says “getting night light” instead of running my shortcut. If only we could disable these or add them as we needed.
      While I’m stating my wish list lol. I do love these google minis thou, the have changed me and my wife’s life actually as my wife can now turn on the light where she couldn’t before and that means a lot to me.
      I can’t wait for routines to come to Australia and to buy more lights.

    I'm considering purchasing a google home mini for an elderly aunt, set it up for her etc so that she can voice activate music or her shopping list etc, but is it able to call someone without having a mobile phone connected to the device? She only has a landline. She has an ipad and struggles to use it at all because of the complicated menu function. I was hoping she might be able to say open facebook, open emails, open photos, call Anne etc. Can it do this?

    • @6MonthsLater
      @6MonthsLater  Před 5 lety

      Yes, it can call any number over WiFi. It’s not a replacement for a computer however, so it can’t open Facebook, emails, etc. Siri on a Mac can do a lot of that. However, she still may find it helpful.

      So it looks like the answer is no from what I’ve read. This is the documentation Google provides: support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9155535?hl=en
      It looks like even kids under 13 that have A Google account cannot be added as home members. However, the music they ask Google to play shouldn’t affect your music taste settings or other personal settings as long as you have voice matched enabled for your account.

You may think Mini is only a tool, but any tool that can learn how to be a better tool is great tool ! She even smarts off at me when I get too stupid, which is a good thing; to cause me to think. Now if I could get her to do the dishes, and the floors, and ... The only problem is: she's bounded by the limits of information access and WiFi distance (I've connected her to cell phone power banks and gone for walks with her. Is it possible to connect her to satellite services?)

    Strictly based on my own experience with Google Home Mini.... At the end of the day, a smart speaker is really good for one thing, playing continuous music, but Google Home Mini has its limits with its sound quality. So I got fed up with it and ended up buying a Google Home Max.... For me, Google Home Mini was only good as a prelude to the bigger and better (certainly more expensive) stuff. (Did I fall for Google's marketing strategy? Probably....)

      I have a Onkyo Google Assistant speaker, and despite it being louder than say the mini, the mono speaker and the balance is very tiring on it. My partner has a JBL Go 2, and that's actually more comfortable for spoken word stuff, like podcasts. I'm at the point of wanting to ditch the speaker for something like a Roberts DAB stereo radio, just because it's more comfortable to listen to. The mini partnered with a good bluetooth compatible HIFI or Chromecast audio could be an alternative, but Google appear to be discontinuing the latter which seems a bit of a shame. There are a few caveats with Chromecast support, it won't play Podcasts through the TV for example. Oh and the Podcast controls are a bit useless for me at least. Because of sound issues, I haven't bothered subscribing to a service. My ears are somewhat on the decline, but I do have a couple of half decent HIFIs and by comparison these mono speakers are just not a joy to listen to, for me at least.

    I want to listen to music but don't want home or home max so I was thinking about buying the mini and a JBL flip 4 for great sound quality is this a good idea. If you read this far thanks 😀

    • @6MonthsLater
      @6MonthsLater  Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah, you can do that. Are you planning to just stream to the JBL through Bluetooth? If so, another route I’d recommend is doing a Chromecast audio to a speaker so you’re using WiFi instead of Bluetooth. You’ll get better sound quality that way.

    • @bigfan5069
      @bigfan5069 Před 5 lety

      Oh thanks I didn't now you could do that. What speaker would you recommend for about £100. Thanks for replying btw😀

    • @6MonthsLater
      @6MonthsLater  Před 5 lety +1

      Sure thing 😁. Hmmm....for 100 bucks personally I’d go with Bose if they have anything in that price category. But that’s just because I’m more familiar with that brand. Never had a Bose product I didn’t love.
      From the looks of online reviews in this price category, it looks like either the JBL flip 4 or the Bose Soudlink Micro would be a good choice.
      Also I should point out the Echo 2 has pretty decent sound quality and it’s right at 100 bucks 😂.

    • @bigfan5069
      @bigfan5069 Před 5 lety

      Should I get the echo 2 plus or Google mini with speakers. Thank you so much for making the videos and then replying to me 😀

    • @6MonthsLater
      @6MonthsLater  Před 5 lety +1

      Of course! Hmmm, I think the echo 2 plus would have better sound quality than a google home. And with that, you’ll have the assistant built into the speaker and not have to rely on Bluetooth which would be optimal. Though, it could come down to what music service you use. If you’re a google music subscriber or want the ability to cast media to a speaker, i think google is still better with that and has more adoption.
      My echo (which isn’t a plus) does have a slight edge over the Google Home. I think it comes down to which assistant you want to go with. They’re both pretty comparable but each has its own strengths and weaknesses.
      Personally I love my Google Home products and Alexa products pretty equally so it’s hard for me to sway you one way over the other 😁. If only the Max were less expensive :p

    • @Floyd69
      @Floyd69 Před 6 lety

      Edwin Infante Leocadio I have one that does this out of 6, so I suspect it's due to a lot of voices and TV chatter because of its location. It is probably false trigger word. This does not upset me, but it makes my wife say somthing about it every time that it happens.

      @EdwininfanteLeocadio Před 6 lety

    What kind of robot listens to the same songs in the same orders consistently regularly but are not part of the same album . Often enough that the artificial intelligence in something as silly as a Google home MINI can pick up the order in which you like the song and just play them. And then you feel surprise that it can play them.

    Google Play Music has a free service that allows a user to upload their current music library (up to 50,000). Unfortunately, Google Play Music requires a credit card number to sign up for the free service. That makes no sense. They say it is to verify the country I live in. Nonsense. So, I do not feel comfortable giving Google a credit card number that they promise they will not charge. I thought, hmmm, how about a prepaid Visa gift card with $10 on it. Nope. They will not accept that. So, I have a Google Home Mini that I cannot play my music from my computer on my wifi.
