    Everybody wants to piss on your parade. I had an adopted grandpa that grew up on mines in AZ and CA; he had the same slightly cryptic way of speaking, that kinda made me think about what he was saying. I hadn’t thought about those childhood experiences for a long time till I watched your video. Sadly my run of vent tubing is way too short to use as a water heater, but maybe the commercial available water heater attachment can be made to work the same way. I came for the intake tube and got the answer I was looking for. Rocks crushed the crap out of the flimsy aluminum. I tried substituting the more robust exhaust tubing and stifled the airflow enough to choke out my heater. Worked in my driveway at 2000 ft, but failed in the mountains. Take care old man.

      Thank you for the reply. A lot of what I am doing is a result of those who teach here. Any Power Engineering student can tell you about the "Properties of Latent Heat" as we study this for our exams. This is what I am applying.

    Very well thought through approach and application of the data. Bottom line is... people will pay more for a unit advertised as an 8 kw heater vs. a 5 kw heater, regardless if the actual unit is capable of delivering on either claim. simple case of false advertising to cheat folks out of their money. Thanks for taking the time to share your findings!

    I just bought one of these diesel heaters to warm my garage.....it's such a simple device.....no need to mess around making a silk purse out of a Sow's ear......you only need to really have the single exhaust pipe outside......ALL of the rest can be inside, and for convenience it can be powered by a 12 volt 30 amp power supply..

    • @unknown-ql1fk
      @unknown-ql1fk Před rokem +6

      Correct, but for effeciency run the air inlet outside as well. Otherwise you are taking warm inside air and combusting it and dumping it outside. This will lower the air pressure in the building and cold air will be drawn in from all cracks and holes in the building to make up the pressure. This is all true for something like a wood stove, furnace, and gas water heater too. If you can sourse combustion air from outside its almost always mord efficient

    I watched your video all the way through and learnt from it , thank you and best of luck with your van build . You did not mention it but I reckon you will be will be frost proofing your fuel lines and tank , besides your water storage tank... ? Could you not also be getting heat from your engine to heat up water , which would save you time and fuel from the Chinese heater . Engine cooling system and the engine exhaust could be used to heat water . If you had a shallow tank below your living area ( maybe not the sleeping area ) that engine heat would provide heat even after the heat source was turned off I would imagine .
    With some temperature control valves all sorts of ideas come to mind . Cheers .

      Hello. Thank you for your comments.
      This is a good idea if my camper were Not removable.
      What you are talking about has been done by folks running Vans and Moggs that have a glycol heat exchanger system . This usually is as simple as opening a pair of valves that feed a glycol heat exchanger. This works well.
      My heat recovery system is a NOT a glycol system. It is closed "loop"circulating through my main drinking water tank.
      When my heater fires up, the "power wire" to the fuel pump also triggers a small garden feature water pump. This pump is in my drinking water tank. Water travels from my water tank via that pump,to the base of the copper coils in my "Hot Air Discharge ". Flow goes Up that coil, exits the top, then it goes to the coil on my heaters exhaust, where it flows from bottom to the top, then off to the heat exchanger in my bed area, then back to the main water tank. ( Yes, I carry a spare pump)
      In order to regulate heat in my sleeping area, the system uses two ball valves and two tees. Incoming flow goes through a tee. One side connects to a ball valve that connects to the heat exchanger. The other side of this tee connects to valve in the "return" side of the system .
      Open my "return valve " wide open, and water is allowed to go directly back to tank by passing the exchanger If I throttle this valve, the flow rate is regulated.
      Regarding fuel lines.
      In addition to adding to running an "Additive" my fuel.
      My "factory fuel tank" will be fitted with a pair of RV water tank heating pads. Fuel lines will run through 1/2" plastic hose,which runs through 5/8 " Foam A/C pipe insolation. ( glorified pool noodle)
      I am using the Stock fuel tank, refilled from a 50 U.S gallon tank under the rear part my bed area.
      This tank , as a 12V 35 Watt Solar Water tank heater element as well as 4 RV heating pads .
      Two of these will keep a 50 gallon tank from freezing according to the manufacturer. These pads have there own thermosets. They will operate as required. (seperate circuits). I will run these as a 2 pair set, powering only 1 set at a time. Current draw is a total of 12 Amps. /set. (5.416) each.

    Great video lots of fine details that are important. ( Duct tape (ducting tape) vs duck tape lol ) I didn't think about sealing my exhaust up and I like you and Harry's idea for the water heating using small bore coils insulated around the exhaust. Why don't you resell the generator and compressor even if they aren't new and buy the smaller more practical and probably more efficient units? Or are you planning on using them in a fixed location later where having a 26gallon 100lb unit is the better option?

      Casper, 3 yrs ago, my life turned to crap. This genset was going to power the tools use to build "my Forever Home". She had different ideas. Please see my video, Moving forward with Carutu Inverters. Thanks for watching. I relocate soon. This means a truck to cannibalize and rebuild. Please watch for that in about 2/3 months. Thank you for the response and best wishes. Ill be looking for your new videos and updates. Im just starting to delve deeper into inverters, buck/boosters in/converters etc. Cheers

    Hello JDC Can you help me . I am trying to order parts for my Vevor 8KW Diesel Heater.
    I need gaskets/glow plug/screen/wrench. Can I use other brands of heaters?

    • @jdcoverland365
      @jdcoverland365  Před rokem +1

      Hello. Several suggestions: 1).Reach out to
      John McK47 on youtube. (2) Order parts from the Vevor yup most likely more cash than a knock off, But these work. Insurance issues may pop up if you have a fire. (3)I had to grind down a wrench, no big deal . I carry (1) spare glow plug and (2) fuel pumps Use gaskets Not silicone glue. All heaters are a copy of the original. Purchase Quality parts, as a mechanic, I have been down this road several times, better in the long run. Google replacement parts for this unit & see what comes up, if you wish to go that route.
      My heater is an "off the shelf Chinese brand", my parts all came about from John McK47's series.

    Can you run the heater on its side. Imr the exhaust and intaske coming from the side instrad of bottom?

    • @jdcoverland365
      @jdcoverland365  Před 8 měsíci

      Hello,' I am going to refer you to John Mck47. He has a 13+ part series on these heaters. I am mounting mine with the piping down, as I am using "The Properties of Latent Heat "to provide circulating hot water for both my bed area( Like the system in your car) as well as flow to keep my 55 gallon tank from freezing in addition to other heaters. The more heat I get from the recycled heat, the less the electrics need to operate. I have 3 systems to heat water.

    After spending all this money on spare parts, wouldn't it be cheaper just to order two heaters.

    • @jdcoverland365
      @jdcoverland365  Před rokem

      Hello. On the surface that makes sense until you factor in (a)the space 2 heaters occupy, (b) you have one working and one inoperable heater. I travel solo, so i have to "fix" everything My spare parts take up an area about as large as 1/3 the size of a loaf of bread.

      Hello Happy New Year and thank you. I googled that heater. There are some on the market that have a built in water heat exchanger. That heater does not have that capability. As it a Real Webasto and Not a copy, they are Very expensive. My concerns are freezing my water lines. I spent most of my adult in the subarctic regions of Manitoba Canada. I am building to withstand -20C minimum. My build is Not a "weekend/ holiday" camper. It's Home. My walls are comprised of Foamular 250 and are rated as R 10. 2x4 built walls minimum R 13. I am behind the "8 ball" already.

    That's a great exageration about the fuel line "banging" against the frame or wall? Really? All that's needed is to hang the pump on a string or cable tie (at a 45 degree angle) and slide it into a piece of pool noodle or wrap it in some insulation. and you won't hear a thing, just the smooth sound of the fan which isn't bad at all.

    • @jdcoverland365
      @jdcoverland365  Před 4 měsíci

      Thank you. This is a great way to stop the "banging issue. My point was that without any "protection, it gets noisy.

    Pretty sure you demonstrated incorrectly which end of the heater is supply and which is return.
    That is duct tape, you like the foil tape, it’s much nicer.

      Comments are not showing up. Sorry for the delay. The pump I will try is made for garden water features. Low pressure, but will run 24/7. These pumps would take "forever" to circulate 55 USG's of water. I do have a 300W 12 heater designed for a solar hot water system as the #2 backup. 12 V RV heating pads 1 pair will warm a 50 gallon tank. These draw 10 W if memory serves and have an internal thermostat.
