    That's one funky filter, that probably how mine looks like it's been about 8 months since I last clean it.

    I’m going to start a new one..lol…I hope it doesn’t piss you off ..”the Window Licker Says”…I run a large coop pre filter on my canisters…it looks nothing like yours after a year…when the flow slows I swap it out for a clean one…this is from my 90g cichlid tank. Very heavily stocked…this was a game changer for me…works awesome😎👍

    If you’re replacing all of the media and scrubbing down the inside of the canister, how do you prevent an ammonia spike from occurring?

      @DanHiteshew-oneandonly  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I don't scrub or steilize the bio-media. I just rinse it off. I also have enough bacteria living in my tank to deal with the ammonia.

    Hi Dan! That gunk can be used as fertilizer for land plants?

      Yes, I really should save it and spread it in our garden beds.

    Well it is nasty, but right there is an example of a healthy filter that is processing what it should be processing

    That was definitely nasty! 🤢 How often do you have to clean that canister? Would’ve loved to see the whole cleaning process…thx as always Dan! ❤

    Hey bro one question , do you change water every week ? 25% 50% ? Or every month ? Or every 6 months ?
    I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ zero idea

    • @DanHiteshew-oneandonly
      @DanHiteshew-oneandonly  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That tank probably gets a water change every month or so. I haven't tended to the filter in about 4 or 5 months I guess.

    Definitely my least favorite part of the hobby. Took me a long time to stop gagging when sticking my hands in these canisters. For the first few years, I made my dad do it 😆

      Lol It's just "mud" basically. It's all broken down and isn't "fish poop" like a lot f people think.
