Being a diver myself I couldn't resist and ordered this game from play-asia. Can't wait to receive it and play it before bed after work! Seems really relaxing!

It's a shame it was badly reviewed.. I think it's a north American opinion because Endless Ocean seems to be popular in Japan (especially the hikikomori kind of folks... which I am also..) so it's easy to find random people to share a dive with.
Yes I agree to your comparison with NMS, I had the same feeling while playing it... that feeling of... "so much more could be added throughout the years" just like NMS did.. it just feels that way. But that feeling will materialize only if the devs continues to pour love into it.. so much love is felt from the creators as you play... it would feel wrong if they just put the project in a dusty drawer.
Few last words to help newcomers or anyone to enjoy it fully. Single player dives are perfect for you to explore and take the time to learn about the many creatures and truly take your time to enjoy it.
When you go online with randoms, the exploration lasts until one player finds an anomaly leading to finding an "epic" creature. From this point on, it becomes a race to who finds most anomalies and who gets first contact with the epic creature. There's still plenty of rewards to cash in if you don't find any, online dives are a real rank booster even if you just scan randomly without racing for the epic encounter.
So if you keep that in mind, it's easy to dive for what you feel for.
Great game really, not for every type of gamers I admit, but a true gem for those for who this game vibes with. ❤

I’ve absolutely loved this game! It’s been the perfect quiet and cozy game for me with 2 kids under two and one that’s 3m! So this has been a perfect game to unwind with and the gameplay loop is pretty awesome!
If you love learning about the fish too - the information given to you gets read off with an AI type voice so it’s cool!

I'm a huge fan of NMS and have been since the game's launch. I'm also enjoying EO: Luminous. I think Luminous is somewhat similar to what NMS was when it first launched. However, today they're quite different. Yes, you can fully relax in both games, but there's a much, *much* wider variety of things to do in NMS, not to mention the loads of different environments to explore.
In NMS, you *can* just relax and explore if you want. Or you can build a base. Or search for the perfect ship. Or follow one of a decent number of quest lines. Or battle space pirates, explore abandoned space ships, build your own space fleet and send it on missions... the list is nearly endless. In Luminous you dive, scan fish, pick up treasure, and if you're like me, spend a lot of time trying to get really high quality photos of every single species in the game to fill out the in-game photo album with great shots. That's it. There is a story mode, but it's really poorly implemented and basically acts like a tutorial divided into super small (a minute or less) sections.
That's not to say Luminous isn't fun. I have over 50 hours in the game (and counting). But I think even the majorty of modern day NMS players would find they're not the target audience for this game. That said, most modern day NMS gamers weren't huge fans of NMS at launch, either, and tend to focus more on aspects of the game added since launch rather than on simply exploring.
Tbh, I don't expect the devs of Luminous to make any super big changes. It would be pretty awesome if they did, but I get the feeling they see Luminous more as a way to test the waters (no pun intended) to see how much interest remains in an older series that was pretty niche even in its prime. Since the game seems to be selling decently despite the mixed reception, I have hopes that they will release a bigger, more fleshed out sequel on the Switch 2. Until then, we'll see some community events in Luminous, as well as the promised patch coming this month, but probably not a whole lot more. And I'm okay with that. The game is fun enough for me as it is. Would I like to see more features added? Of course - especially as a long time fan of the series in general. But Luminous still offers the core experience of diving, exploring, scanning and learning about marine life, and collecting treasure. That's why I play this series, and that's why I'll continue to play this game.

Great points, the game isn’t for everyone and journalists should take that into account. It wasn’t my type of game but I’m loving it so far.
I would say for the content/price though, either lots of free dlc/updates should be added, or a price drop should happen.

I was wondering what people were wrong about. But then you said that journalists were saying that it's a bad game, and that's when I realized it's not us that's wrong, it's the journalists that are wrong for attacking a game they don't understand. Typical of them to do such a thing, isn't it?

They are trying to manipulate consumers. And they have Xbox fans reviewing Nintendo games. To top it off, every review I seen ended up being whining about what the game doesn't do, and didn't review the game at all.

I love endless ocean. I grew up as a kid. From what I heard from a GameStop employee. That a dlc is coming out around the same week as it drops. Sadly the price is a little bit steep. But that was about a few weeks before the game dropped, so don’t get too excited if it is not there. I love the remake, but I do wish there was local play. I don’t do a lot of online play as much anymore due to my friends odd life events

Another Great vid Max. This looks like a quality game but I think the negative reviews along with the $50 price tag is going to be the death of the game before it even started. Reviews aside I personally wouldn’t pay $50 for endless ocean. Seems more like a $30-$40 title to me. Hopefully it will go on sale soon and more players start to pick it up

I don't know, I was expecting this game to serve as a sequel to The Last endless Ocean game. So if I compare it to the last game in its own franchise I think it's fair that it is criticized for not being what's expected, because it falls short in nearly every area in comparison.
I think a couple of reviews are a bit too low, but I don't think it deserves any high scores either. If this game was somewhere from $20 to $30 and they just marketed it as an endless ocean spin-off with a focus on multiplayer, with maybe a bit more multiplayer interaction than there actually is. I think it would be fine. But for $50 it doesn't even feel like a simulator. It feels like a screensaver or a tech demo for out of date hardware.
The procedurally generated maps are incredibly dull and way too similar to each other compared to the handcrafted environments you dived in in endless Ocean 2. There's zero interaction whatsoever with any of these animals, all you do is scan them and take some pictures if you want. There's no sense of progression as you get better at diving and can have larger scuba tanks and dive deeper and deeper. You can't pet or feed the fish, you can't use your little stun tool to calm down more aggressive animals, nor is there any sense of not being able to go too close to defensive animals. And if somebody didn't want any sense of danger, even though nothing was really that serious in the last one, that could just be an option that's toggled on or off. But you can't go above water and see Islands and animals that live there, you don't have your boat or your HQ to explore, there are no characters to interact with outside of an incredibly annoying AI voice, the customizable aquarium is gone, and so are those awesome trainable dolphins. It's just lacking so much real interactivity with this world and is basically just a randomly generated fish tank that you swim around in
Find regular animals just chilling with giant prehistoric animals, you find the legendary animals in every single map, nothing actually feels rare or exciting to find, and there are fully freshwater animals swimming around in these ocean environments. There's at least a little bit of education about each one but rarely more than a paragraph.
As somebody who does like a relaxed chill out game and is absolutely a huge nerd about marine biology, there is still something here that I can get some enjoyment out of, but man I can't help the feel really ripped off for the price and really disappointed in it as an entry in this franchise after the last one was so great.
If this game was a school paper, I would probably give it a D. It passes, but it is below average
I think the only thing it has in common with something like no man's sky is procedurally generated maps, but no man's sky has far more variety from planet to planet than this game does from map to map. As for 30-person dives, that might be possible, but I have never been in a map with more than five people. I think this game is going to die out quick
