I would recommend to put the spreader pole on top of the ridge pole; IF the rubber connection piece breaks; the tent stays pretty much in shape; other wise your spreader pole will fall into you

I've used this now for about 2 years and I love it. In strong wind it does have a tendency to have the side walls bend in, but that is going to be an issue with pretty much every lightweight tent.
Never leaked, deals well with condensation, insanely quick to set up, huge headroom inside for the weight, no issues with structure - even the pegs included are good quality.
I picked it up for $200 Australian dollars when I got it which is just unbelievable price for the quality

I got one in February, so not much testing yet. So far all was good. Setting up is very easy, disassembly as well. I have the 15D version - which is appr. 250 gr lighter than the violet one. I also got the floor mat designed for this tent. So far no leaking, but no multiday (night?) hiking was possible, so cant comment on the long term effect. Cant wait to see Luke's full review.

I've had the mongar 2 for a while now and pitched it in some really awful wind and rain. It's never leaked and for the price it's a great tent for solo camping. My brother has the msr hubba hubba and it's exactly the same design as that but obviously a lot cheaper.

I've waited to check this out before I commented on this design flaw on the cross-member pole. Once the cross-member pole has been attached to the grommets and before the rain fly has been put on, I find that the end of the cross-member only has the bare metal pushing against the fly material creating a wear point on this reenforced portion of the tent. It would have been great if Nature hike would have attached a hard rubber cap which could be pushed onto the ends of this crossover pole to prevent damage to the tent especially when all staked out. In the wind this cross-member moves and can after a bit wear a hole in the tent at this area, metal on fabric.

Can only speak about Naturehike Vik 1 . This tent costs 130usd and it kept me super dry in Norway . It’s 2021 the Chinese got good in copy not everything they produce totally sucks . You will get a MSR Hubba Hubba copy with that mongar . A little heavier . Same quality if you look on what fabrics they use . Stitching is not bad at all . 120eu Vik 1 served me well 4 Trips to Norway . Upgraded to Tarptent Stratospire Li cause I wanted more Space and under 2 pounds so I payed 700usd for Dyneema lol .

I just received mine today- was a little tricky for me the first set-up but I didn’t see any directions til I was putting it away afterwards and I’m not an experienced tent person.
I’m sure the next time I set up it’ll be much easier. I will also practice putting it up fly before inner as some have done in case of bad weather when I’m out on trail. I want to be proficient with it at home before I use it while backpacking.
I did get the heavier 210T bcs the colors for 20d are just awful. I got dark green for more stealth option.
It’s a lovely tent and quite roomy. I look forward to using it. I have seen quite a few reviews and it seems to do very well in higher winds and rain plus the high mesh will be good for hot summers.
I was thinking of how I could add another layer for winter camping so I don’t have to get another tent just yet. All this gear gets too expensive for someone like me. So if anyone has suggestions on how to temporarily winterize this, they would be appreciated.

Be interested to see how it goes, I got the Cloud Up 2 model from the same company and its been amazing. Only issue for mine has been you need to pitch the tent so the flat face isn't directly in the path of the wind. But rain, condesation etc has been good. Hope to go snow camping at some stage (which is harder than it looks in Australia not many places lol)
When you do the test I would love for you to have a good look at the bathtab, and strength if you can, as my kids get older, son is 9, daughter is 6, they have been wanting their own spaces when we go caravan park camping, so was thinking of getting small tents just for them, and my daughter loves purple, just worried how it would hold up. My Cloud Up 2 does need to be treated gentle.

Right now I am looking at getting some tents for Boy Scout Troop to do some backpacking so cost is an important factor as is ruggedness so I am not thinking ultralight. When it comes to 20D vs 210T what would you recommend? Also thinking about other tents beyond naturehike, I have seen a mountainsmith celestial at a good price and of course there is the Kelty options-- also I saw sierra designs tabernash, stoick madrone , and marmot catalyst. I only have experience with a marmot and that tent held up great for me. In terms of cost and durability who do you recommend---Kind of hoping to stay in the 100-150 dollar range

That Mongar is an MSR clone (which isn’t a bad thing).
    I own a 3FUL version. AliExpress again.
It’s identical other than adjustable stake points and different guy line attachments
I think it’s a great thing that Luke is testing the gear from AliExpress.
It’s I feel a good budget option for a lot of people.
Hope he’ll be testing the Lanshan 1 soon. .

Have you ever done a review on the Geertop backpacking tent for 2 person, 4 seasons camping tent double layer waterproof for outdoors hunting, hiking, climbing, travel.
It says easy set up. Be nice to see if it’s worth the money.
I truly hate wet tents from condensation and leaky seams or floor.

Never keen on tents where you need to set the inner fly first. Looks alright though.

I at least appreciate when the snapping body portions are attached to straps with loops as opposed to being sewn directly in. That way, if one breaks, you can substitute a carabiner and keep using the tent.

I've had this tent in this color for more than 2 years and I love it! Granted, the color is not for everybody. I wanted something different and I think purple is great. Everything in the tent looks pink in the morning though 😁 That's the tent I plan to have with me when I hike the west highland way in Scotland later this fall or next spring.

I really wished Luke would review the LanShan 1 Pro as it is one of lightest budget solo tents for long distance hikers. 690g isn't the lightest but for the price it's not bad. I'm torn between LanShan and Gossamer Gear's The One tent. That would be twice as expensive though and it's out of stock everywhere. Not going to order the Lanshan just yet because it's Singles Day and Black Friday and the prices have been jacked up 35% on Aliexpress. Going to wait for the "sales" to be over.

  • @KimberlyGreen
    @KimberlyGreen Před 3 lety

The pole twist clips concern me. If one of the prongs breaks off, will that clip still hold the pole? Or does it become a non-functional?
(I personally like the purple color.)
