  • Hi My Sparkly Friends!
I decided to make this oversized crocheted shawl because I really wanted a shawl that I could tie in the front or let hang down without it slipping off of my shoulders.
This is so perfect and I know you'll make a ton of them to give as gifts, too! It's so easy, fashionable a quick to make.
Here's the free pattern by Me!!
    Oversized Popcorn Shawl
3 skeins of Mandala in the color Harpie (each skein is 590 yards)
    Size H/ 5.00 or I/5.50 hook
    Row 1
Mc, ch 4 (always counts as TC), make 5 dc in magic circle, ch 2, 5 dc, 1 treble crochet in magic circle, tighten (12 total sts)
    Row 2
Ch 4 (always counts as treble crochet)
2 dc in same st, dc in next 5 sts, then 2 dc in ch 2 space, ch 2, 2 dc, then dc in next 5 sts, then 2 dc and 1 treble crochet in the top of the ch 4. (20 total sts)
    Row 3
Ch 4, 2 dc in same st, dc in ea st to the point, then 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the ch 2 sp, dc in each st until the top of the ch 4, then 2 dc and 1 treble in the top of the ch 4 (28 total sts)
    Row 4,5,6,7
DC in the same manner as above
    Row 4 (36 sts total)
    Row 5 (44 sts total)
    Row 6 (52 sts total)
    Row 7 (18 popcorns total)
Ch 4, 2 dc in same space
    DC in next st
Popcorn in the next st (popcorn is 6 dc in same st, always ch 1 after making the popcorn, unless I ask you to ch only) remove hook and insert in the 6th stitch to the right, insert hook into that st and grab the loop and pull through to make the popcorn
DC in ea of the next 2 sts
Make popcorn in the next st, ch 1, rep as above to the ch 2 space and making sure to have 2 dc after the last popcorn.
In the ch 2 space at the point, make a popcorn, ch 3, make a popcorn
1 dc in each of the next 2 sts
repeat making popcorns and the 2 dc up the side, leaving 2 sts at the end, then dc in the next st and in the ch 4 sp work 2 dc and 1 tc in the top of the ch 4
You should have a total of 18 popcorns
    Row 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13
DC for all rows (see video around 19 minute mark for a helpful hint)
Row 8 dc (84 sts total)
Row 9 dc (92 sts total)
Row 10 dc (100 sts total)
Row 11 dc (108 sts total)
Row 12 dc (116 sts total)
Row 13 dc (124 sts total)
Row 14 dc (132 sts total)
Row 15 popcorn row (44 popcorns)
Row 16 dc (188 sts total)
Row 17 dc (196 sts total)
    Row 18 dc ( 204 sts total)
Row 19 dc (212 sts total)
Row 20 dc (220 sts total)
Row 21 dc (228 sts total)
Row 22 dc (236 sts total)
Row 23 popcorn row (80 popcorns)
**Please note that at the point you will only have 1 dc to be made before the ch 2 sp, so just go ahead and make the two popcorns as usual in that sp and then 1 dc in the next dc and then continue the popcorns as usual.
Add at least 15 rows of double crochet AFTER your last row of popcorns.
I ended with 19 rows of dc AFTER my last popcorn row
    Sc around the entire shawl

Making this shawl right now and I love your tutorial. You hold your hook the same way I do. I’m using Mandala ombre in the color “cool”. It looks great. I really like how it sits on the shoulders and doesn’t fall off. I’ll be making a couple more as gifts. Thank you for an awesome pattern. 🙋🏼‍♀️💜🇨🇦

Just took a Quick glance at the video . I’m pretty sure I will be able to follow you in your teaching. I’m looking forward to make this beautiful shawl . I have 6 skins of Lion Brand Shawl in a ball . There are 481 yds in a ball . Medium 4 . Will this be enough to make the Shawl ? And is the weighted size ok ? It says a J-6 hook to use for this yarn . Should I go to the Size 5.5 ? I’m new at crocheting… 2 years now and this is why I ask the questions. Thank you and I can’t wait to get started. Karen.

    • @SparklyOne
      @SparklyOne  Před 2 lety +2

Hi Karen 🥰 You will definitely have enough yarn. I think you should use the recommended hook for the first six rows and see if you like it. If it’s too loose, then go down a size or two. I am currently making one with a size 4 worsted weight yarn with the H hook and it’s a bit thicker than the one in the video, but it’s coming along nicely. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for your comments. They will help many people. Happy New Year 🥰💖😘🎉

I am planning to making your shawl using the you tube video. I am anxiously waiting for my Yarn to be delivered by Amazon. This is the shawl of my dreams! One I will actually use and keep instead of give away like I’ve done with so many others. I have one small problem. I am using an iPad and I can’t find any way to print the pattern you put on the written pages that go with the video. I would like to print it so I can make notes for future use and follow along with you. I get stuck at row 15 (2nd popcorn row). The amount of stitches in row 14 and 15 are right, but when i get to the point of the shawl, i'm left with 3 dc not 2. So just after i made my 21 popcorn stitch, there should be 2 dc left and then you make the 22 popcorn stitch in the chainspace. But i have 3 dc???
I have counted over and over again, both row 14 and 15. The amount of stitches are right.

Hi Shawn, all you do is make 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the point. You will finish the shawl with a sc all the way around and for the point it would be 1 sc in the dc's and the ch 2 space you can put 2 or 3 in there, depending on how it looks to you. Hi Ruby, I gave the shawl away before I could count those rows. I am currently making a new one and hope to add it in the description box later. I’m glad your making one. Happy New Year 🥰 Thanks for commenting 😘🤩

That was an I hook you showed not a H.

Oh my! You are so right! Those hooks are so hard to read! I think I must need stronger reading glasses! Ugh! I’m sure the pattern will turn out great with an H or an I hook. Thanks for pointing it out! I’ll make sure to pay more attention next time. Happy New Year 🥰🎊🌟

This is a great pattern. However, the yarn choice is not conducive to being able to see the tutorial. The yarn is too dark. I am not confident that I could complete the shawl based upon this tutorial. Very disappointing. I will check her other pattern instead.

Hi Sharon. The pattern is also written in the description box and if you email me at sparklyone60@gmail.com, I can send you the pattern if you’d rather read it. The yarn is variegated so it’s not always so dark and the background that I crochet on is white so it make it easier to see. Let me know if you have any questions. Sorry you’re disappointed 😢
