Imagine having to phone the boss. "Well I have good news and some bad news. Good news is the boat is in the water. And the bad news is so is the crane."!
3:50 is called the big blue accident. The wind caused severe stress on the boom, and several critical pins holding the crane together failed. Three men were killed when the load fell and clipped a suspended basket they were in. It took approximately 15 seconds for them to fall, in which they were still alive. 15 seconds to realize they were going to die. There is a memorial to them outside of the stadium that they were building. It’s called “teamwork”. Just figured I would point this out.
The 2nd to last accident killed 3 guys in the crane basket that gets clipped and falls to the ground. It was very windy that day. Terrible anybody had to die. Families were paid millions.
Head In Ground Yes Miller Park. I watched a Documentary on the collapse and the job that day should have been halted due to wind. In a longer video you can hear the crane start popping. I think OSHA are the ones filming. Very ironic.
I can't believe that a lot of these people aren't more panicked than they seem to be. Everything around them just collapsed and people (their co-workers) could very likely have been killed and they are just kind of "ho-hum i guess I'll walk over and survey the destruction...anyway how long until lunch break?"
@@michaellynch9862 2 guys died when the basket they were in got slingshot down to earth!u can see them in the little black basket going up and then down with the wires!
When it goes bad.. it goes BAD fast. That's why there is a "load master" (or should be). Now I think of it, the girls use to call me that in High School ;)
It was VERY easy to see the winch brakes failed. You could hear the winch spooling up even from the camera position, followed by smoke and fire (from ruptured hydraulic lines, probably) from the area of the winch. Yeah, a set of $500 brake pads failing led to the destruction of many, many millions in equipment.
Even to this day, whenever I see one of those tower cranes, I always wonder actually how secure those HUGE slabs of Concrete or whatever they are, that are place at the back part of them to stablalize the crane, I mean has one of those Ever come loose and have fallen all the way to the ground????

the winch brake failed for sure, I think someone told me that he was stopping so the other cranes could catch up, so he released the dogs and the brake didn't hold.
+joshua43214 Occurred on a mine site in Queensland Australia. They are lowering the boom of a drag line which is used to remove the overburden in coal mines. From what I can gather, they shouldn't have been using a crane, as the boom has its own internal lowering device.
