All of the incidents involving ships are an insurance nightmare.
Why? Because of the passengers?
The ship themselves are very expensive.
I guess ship insurance isn't cheap either.
@Lonnie McGuire nautical science student here. What we learned so far is that these accidents usually are caused by mechanical failures. It's actually pretty common for the rudder to malfunction, which means it could get stuck in one position. Without being able to maneuver, all the crew can do is throwing out the anchor to try to slow down the ship. If they can't do that for whatever reason, they are stuck with just hoping for the best. There's not really much you can do to stop a ship. But it is also possible, that the captain did a mistake and was to fast or estimated the distance wrong. hope this helps (sorry for my english im still learning)
@@IIAndersII Kind of, more because of the value of the hull, equipment, bunker (fuel) and of course all the liabilities pertaining to a potential incident i.e. damage (or loss)to another other ship/dock property.
Once you have an incident like this, there almost always is a court case involving the negligent party and their insurance company to determine liability. If two or all parties involved can be seen as negligent in some aspect then it creates an additional case between the two parties to determine who was most at fault.
These ships are worth millions and the cargo (or in these cases liability to the passengers safety) can be worth tens to hundreds of millions of dollars.

I don't think that was a fire, i think that was a really big electrical arc. It did look like a transformer station.

@@jeffvader811 ive seen the full clip before, if i remember correctly it was some kind of surge or short that caused a fire in the electronics there. The guy shut off the power flow and co2'd it while calling in support. It had both large electrical arcs and a fire in the components (im guessing it ignited the plastics) from said arcs.

6:30 why would anyone stand on the object being lifted, and why are people so close by. i used to work as an assembler and when i lifted a plate of 250 kg no one was allowed within a 3 m radius. here they are lifting several tons and are a few steps away and even on it. come on people.

One day I wanted to show my at that time girlfriend that I could clean dishes,so I put em in the dishwasher and added dawn dish soap to the dishwasher and parked my ass on the couch, she comes home goes to the kitchen and starts screaming and yelling and I was like wtf,the entire kitchen was covered in foam, ooops.

Once saw a Honda Prelude drive past me in the right lane, it started smoking, burst into flames, they stopped and tumbled out, they got up and ran to the sidewalk as the hood exploded into the air and hit the street about 20 ft behind me.
