This is my Dad's favorite song from his favorite movie. He passed away in 1994 a couple of months before I turned five. I listen to this song as a tribute to him, RIP Dad I love you very much and miss you. This one's for you 💙💛❤💚💜
MY MOM INTRODUCED ME TO THIS MOVIE MAINLY DUE TO THIS SONG IN FACT I HAD ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WAS MICHAEL PARÉ SINGING THIS BUT NOT UNTIL ABOUT 2020 DID I LEARN IT WAS JOHN CAFFERTY WHO WAS SINGING THIS AND UP UNTIL THEN I HAD BEEN TOTALLY LOST/CONFUSED AS TO WHOM WAS REALLY SINGING THIS
Saw them in a little bar in San Diego right after the movie came out. Must have been less than hundred of us crammed in there. They sounded EXACTLY like this. It was unreal. People were paying hundreds to see Bruce sing "Dancing in the dark" that year. I think the cover was like $10, best money ever spent.
One of the best songs in the 80s and never forgotten. It should be given more praises back then. 80s the best era in Music-- just pure talented musicians regardless of how they look.
Because there were some ugly musicians including Geddy Lee, at least one of the guys in Steely Dan, Mr Loaf or MeatLoaf, and many more that have "a face made for (being on the) radio."
WPST 97.5 FM in Trenton, New Jersey, played this a lot in the overnight hours. Probably heard this three or four times in an 8 hour shift when this song was at its zenith. Good times and good memories.
One of the best rock songs EVER! John and the gang should get a hell of a lot more respect. The rhythm guitar rocks, the bass is thumping harder than a trip hammer, and the sax is scorching. Everything to love and nothing disappoints in this song. Thank you guys for writing and performing this. A side note, I prefer the version of the video with the real band and not the film version. I always did get a hoot watching John do that one legged hop thing and you can see the band is having a good time.
I can't think of any other song with as great a sax lead as On the Dark Side. Such wonderful textures in this song, begins with a piano lead and ends in pure, old school rock and roll. It's just the same verse with no real chorus, it's its own hook. Great tune.
The Wild Summer Nights bar scene filmed at Tony Marts in Somers Point NJ. The place was torn down shortly after filming but for nearly 40 years it was one of the hottest spots at the south Jersey shore. My dad spent many nights there in the early 60s. The movie caught the vibe of the place n time exactly.
❤ I remember putting the TV on one Saturday afternoon when it was just HBO back in the day and I seen this gorgeous guy in this gorgeous song Eddie and the cruisers what a flick one
John Cafferty made two amazing albums, for both films. Sadly as some have said on here the fictional characters get all the credit. John and the boys are one of the most talented groups ever to be ignored
Johnny Johnson, Yeah it's the same thing that happened with Dan Hartman's "I Can Dream About You". For the longest time I thought Dan was a black guy with a jheri curl.
It' s crazy. This song continues to pop up in my head. It stuck with me ever since my mom and I watched Eddie and the Cruisers every chance we got in the 80's. My mom had a crush on Eddie. Lol. Good times.
I really wish they would put the 2 movies of Eddie and the Cruisers on TV. So the younger kids get to really see true rock and roll. I’m old and loved Eddies Lyrics. And would love the chance to see both back to back.🙏🏼
Great tune. This was when I had just joined the air force and was living the life overseas. This takes me back almost 40 years. Strong memories, unforgettable song.
Speaking of that overseas military life, I had actually completely forgotten about this song, and not long ago, I heard it playing on a Korean radio station while alone and riding a bus through the local city one night. I couldn't remember the name of the song or the band, but I knew I had to find out. I have ended up getting blasted from the past by a lot of great, somewhat obscure American songs just like that, while riding buses in Korea.
I close my eyes and can see Eddie and the Cruisers, not John and the brown beavers. 🤣 I'm back to listen again. John and the Brown Beavers are great! But I swear I can see Joanne dancing on the side with a tambourine. [July 2023] Back again. Loving the song! We just watched Eddie and the Cruisers and Eddie Lives the other night. 2 of my fav music movies.
Oh God yesssss!!!
It breaks my heart that this song doesn't get the respect it deserves. It is one of the greatest songs of the 80's.
I compare it to being the "Top Gun" or "Roadhouse" of songs of the 80's.
I second that emotion
John definitely deserves better!
John is the origional , The record industry was trying to avoid having people make the discovery that springsteen & band was just a copy , springsteens first two albums were kind-of forced , born to run sounded more like beaver brown
Bruce probably signed a contract to give up 40% , they promoted him so much
Still one of the best soundtracks for a movie ever. Micheal Pere’ did a fantastic job as Eddie and the vocals matched his style perfectly. Absolutely underrated.
What hurt was Bruce Springsteen coming out right away with his version. If not for that this band might've received more recognition.
I was just a kid when I saw Eddie and the Cruisers. I thought Eddie was the most beautiful man I'd ever seen. I still do. I couldn't believe it when I found out it wasn't him singing. His speaking voice sounds so similar.

Comoin stand up and give this song 😄 it 😤😭 deserves.
One of life's cruelties is you have to get old to truly appreciate your youth .
Youth is wasted on the young 🌱🤔
So true, it hurts

Brilliant. Well said.
John Cafferty.......hands down.....no doubt. When Eddie and the Cruisers came out people were dancing in the theater aisles

One of the best things about being a kid in the 80's; being exposed to such great music all the adults and older kids played.
Absolutely
I agree!
They truly don't make music like they used to!👍
Best things being a kid in 80's is how now I already knew all the words to like Bohemian Rhapsody because we were there!
I agree, little did we know in a few short years music would turn to shit
Seen Eddie and the Cruisers when I was 5, fell in love with John Cafferty's voice. This song always gets me in a great place of nostalgia.
