The sad thing is, they cut off the ending of this video. I saw it on MTV back in the day, and at the end, the piano player trails off, then takes the cigarette out of his mouth and blows a cloud of smoke out. That one gesture manages to capture all the nostalgia, regret over lost youth and innocence, the bittersweet feeling of an adult looking back on youth that this song is all about.

John,, I owe you an apology,😟, you and the band played for us all night at our senior class trip to geauga lake amusement park,, I wish I could go back soo much. I went to school with the most spoiled brats of privilege in country. The graduation class of Port Clinton oh, 1989. I am sorry ,, so regret not trying to hang with you guys. I had mabey 2 or 3 friends in the whole class. We always rocked, and just wish I would have taken the time to hang

I used to watch this movie with my dad and uncle. I have been playing music for 20 years. Looking back, I think Eddie and the cruisers inspired me to play music and pick up a guitar. I miss you, Dad and Uncle Brian life sure goes by quickly. I have to say that's one of the best damn saxophone solos I've ever heard every note I can feel in my soul, and my heart hurts, but I can't help but listen again and again.

I had a business and lived in Key West from 1993 - 2006
The Conch Republic Seafood Company, right next to Key West Bight at the end of Greene St, booked The Beaver Brown Band one weekend night. My employees and I thought it was Christmas!!!!
At no point were there more that 20 people in the bar that evening though.....?
I stayed, as they played all night, several sets, and no cover charge.
Duval Street however, was packed with Tourons watching yet another guitar player bang out endless Jimmy Buffet songs, whilst 20 or so of us, enjoyed a treat of a lifetime a few hundred yards away.
A great band, with great songs!

When I first heard this, it was in college in the early '80's. Just thought it was a good song. Didn't give any thought to the true meaning. Had my whole life ahead of me. Now, in my early 60s, the sentiment just slaps you in the face.
